  1. Don't go for any degree but start StartUP company and learn this way everything about business. And most information for Entrepreneurs are free online, bookstore or library. Just start with an idea.....
  2. It really depends on the company you working for. In my company you need to meet quota and be very productive and they leave you alone, only send you a check. By productive I mean, I produce 40% more than the people in the office.......
  3. I go thru MCG-Milliman which we use at work and is really cheap compared to the other ones.
  4. I have the best work-life balance eveeeeeeeeeeeeer in my life. I can work any hours as long is not over 40 and at home. So here you go... awesome Work/family balance but I still have to meet the quota and deadlines. So, you still need to work hard, smart and efficiently.
  5. there is United, Aetna, Anthem and look on pharmaceutical companies or medical devices companies for educator positions, as well.
  6. I work from home 100% already for 8 months and I have thought, too I will be missing the social contact. Guess what I do not miss it for a second, I love what I do with so much flexibility and freedom, no stress. I absolutely love it. Oh, if I want to socialize, I go for lunch with the RN's I work with.... at home... If you are a mom, or you have your friends it is nice to work in low stress environment...You will enjoy it...
  7. You are all wrong in here. I have with another honest nurses reported a nurse who slept and was out of state and was charging medicaid money for 7 years 24 hours a day, stole a lots of millions. She have bought 7 homes...And guess what..... She went to trial after 4 years of investigation and needs to pay back 100 grand, 3 years of probation and that is all. No jail time, no nada........
  8. I work for an Insurance company and I love it, I will never go back to bedside and I do not miss patient contact at all. My income increased and my stress decreases. plus, I work from home. I truly, enjoy nursing now. Leave bedside.
  9. I am foreign educated, first time I took NCLEX and passed 1st time with 75 questions in 2005. It took me 45 minutes. Before NCLEX I was soooo anxious. So, I over-studied. I remember studying every day for 12 or more hours for 3-4 months. I was obsessed, but very well prepared. CONGRATS!!!
  10. Yes, and that is true about too many coaches, today. I just do not understand who can hire a coach just because they have 3 weeks training and no medical background. The another thing which is obvious online there is so much of wrong, incorrect information online about health etc....
  11. CCP is chronic care professional certification from Health Sciences. And I know for a fact there is a billing manual for health education. In addition as a RN you can apply for NPI number.
  12. I am looking for Health Education Billing Manual for health coaches. Does someone knows where to get it? Thanks! I know that as health coach with CCP certification you can apply for NPI number and bill the insurance for coaching.
  13. From my own personal experience, I advice you to quit. Why? Because it is toxic and unhealthy environment. And your mental and physical health is number one priority. I have worked over 10 years in many areas of nursing, and I am telling you it is not worth it. You are responsible for your health and you. The only condition for not quitting will be: 1. You talk to your manager and tell her the truth about your preceptor, so maybe you can get new one 2. Change the floor, pick something else If it is not possible quit, give a 2 weeks notice. Good Luck!!!
  14. Okay, I was in the same position, just one month ago. I have just got hired at Children's Hospital. Maybe do the same what I did: 1. Apply for CPN you will qualify ( hospitals like certifications, plus you must have BSN.); get PALS. 2. I did Case management at Peds Home Health and PDN. 3. Applied for Case Management at the hospital Part-time ( apply only Part-time, it is easier to get in). 4. It is good to know someone from inside or networking 5. Sign for all the conferences and meetings at your hospital you want to work for. It will take 3 to 6 weeks, but it worked. In addition, I have listened to Donna Cardillo CD about interviews and hiring. I cracked the interview you with flying colors. They were so impressed!! Show them you are willing to learn and will do anything.
  15. I have got 3 job offers in past 2 weeks and I don't know how to turn down the 2 offers without burning bridges. Any advice?
  16. This company is really new and they don't offer any benefits at this time. In fact, no cell phone, 30 cents for mile, and no schedule. They don't have many clients, yet. I will see the month January 2013. If it will be very unstable without schedule, I am quitting.
  17. I got fired by mom one week before Christmas. The reason; I was too attached to the little girl and she was to me and I guess mom was jealous. I have worked there for over 2 years. So, I got so much appreciation from the family. Happy New Year!!! My new goal in a year 2013: NEVER WORK AS A PDN, EVER!!!
  18. I have got offer to work for new HHC, but the pay is low with the promise of Assistant Director position. I have 7 years of experience and they want to offer me 35$ per visit and 40$ SOC. I have feeling, they will just use me and I will be not able to earn anything. I work Per Diem for another agency and they pay me 55 per visit and 60 for SOC. I am tired of people telling me to work for a passion. Sorry, I love to be a nurse, but I go to work to earn money. I cannot pay bills with a passion? I feel nurses are so abused by the HHC agencies. I don't care about future promises on promotion, I need pay now. And I am not a new grad...
  19. So, I got fired from the family I worked for past 3 years. The reason is I became too attached to the little girl, she adopted. Before she was in foster care. However, the truth is I was looking for new job for the past month and have been sick, my daughter too and called off more frequently. BTW, mom hates when I called off. So, I don't know how this made me too attached to her, I wanted to leave because I was underpaid, unchallenged doing "babysitting." Mom thought that I am different since adoption and not loving towards her daughter, nursing wise she had no complains, just she felt I am withdrawing from her. And I told her, I am looking for new job part-time, I have my family and I am not her mother, I am a nurse and I only take care of her. Three days later, she called our DON and told her that she doesn't want me to work for her because I told her I feel like I am her mother-the girl's mother I take care of. But the truth is she twisted the words. She knew I will quit soon, so she fired me to get even. I have meeting with DON next week. I don't know what to say because I feel anything I say will be used against me. In addition, DON is on mom's side. I just feel, I was stabbed in the back for all the work I did for her.
  20. I am with you JZ_RN and you are correct. I felt the same way in my RN to BSN program. However, I am done in December 2012. It was crap did not teach me anything I did not know, already. Only, busy useless homework. I guess the universities want to make money for nothing. BTW it was easy BSN. Nothing new or challenging. But you must do it. Otherwise in few years nobody will hire you without BSN. Even the HH agencies want BSN.
  21. I have worked in home health pediatrics, postpartum and Mother-baby program for past 10 years. I am currently working as an IC for an agency, but they are changing their status to employer, and decreasing our salary by 30 %. So I have decided to go independent on my own as an agency. My initial idea is to work as a consultant for doula's agencies, childcare centers, pediatric visits, respite care for foster parents, newborn specialist etc. Initially, I will charge private pay, but in meanwhile I will work on my medicaid NPI number. In addition, I am getting my CPN ( certified pediatric nurse) to have more credibility in my area. What do you think? Is it a marketable idea?
  22. Can you please write the name of the hospitals, please. I'm looking anywhere. I got CA license. I can start anytime. Do the take even not new graduates?
  23. I'm looking for good NICU training anywhere in USA. I live in Denver,CO and they want you to have 1 year experience or be a New Grad. I'm not either of it. I have experience in PP and transition nursery but that is not enough. Can you please give hospital suggestions, where they can hire me? Thanks, so much.
  24. Can someone help me to get into NICU training. I'm trying to get there but all hospitals in Denver want to have experienced RN in this speciality. University hospital is taking only new graduates. And I'm nurse for 8 years. Thanks for your input.
