There may be a number of jobs posted near where you live that aren't with the "big" insurance companies. I started out working for a local Management Service Organization (MSO) that managed for several different IPAs. I actually found that posting on craigslist believe it or not. Then one day, a recruiter from a fortune 500 company (none of those listed above, but sizable none the less) called me and asked if I wanted to interview for a remote (home-based) position doing utilization review. I work for that company today. I had applied there some time prior, I guess my name was in their database, perhaps saw I was doing concurrent review via linked in. The point: keep trying, it happens in the most unexpected ways.

Update: I accepted the Molina position in July and am so glad I did. Great company, wonderful coworkers!

Hi all! I am wondering if anyone has any experience with Molina Healthcare or knows anyone with experience, specifically in working remotely. I was offered a position of Care Review Clinician III, which is basically UR of inpatient or skilled nursing patients. The position is remote which, depending on the company, could be a plus or minus. I currently work in an office setting, so I am interested in hearing from anyone who works with the company remotely. I'm torn. Will my keystrokes be monitored, my calls recorded, and subjected to unpaid overtime; or will I be ok as long as I am productive and meet quotas? Thanks in advance!

Hello All, I am looking for career advice, any help is much appreciated! I have been offered a position as an outpatient case manager, basically doing pre autherizations for a third party managed care group. I'm 28, and nursing is my second bachelor's degree, my first is in business. I have only been a nurse for about 2 years (1.5 yrs tele, 0.5 yr ICU), but I have really disliked bedside nursing thus far. I don't like poop, moving heavy patients, giving bedbaths, running around pushing drugs, etc. I moved from telemetry to ICU, which I dislike slightly less, but still don't enjoy. When I talked to my current manager to resign, she discouraged me from getting away from the bedside "this early in my career." I realize that I don't have a lot of bedside experience, but I am miserable at the bedside. I'd love to have a desk, work on the computer, and have a business schedule. Am I making the wrong choice by taking this job and moving away from the bedside so early?

I am in need of advice regarding my nursing career, any advice would be much appreciated! Background: I currently work in a Surgical ICU for a large hospital in the area. I have only been there for 6 months, before that I was a telemetry/Progressive Care RN for the hospital for 1.5 yrs - so total of 2 years in the hospital. Nursing is my second degree with my first being business. Situation: I recently interviewed for a Lead RN position at a small infusion practice. There is usually only 1 RN working at a time, with 5 infusion rooms in the practice. I would be responsible for infusions, as well as making the schedule (for myself and the per diem RNs), and some various administrative/managerial duties for the office. Dilemma: I would love to leave the bedside - it's just not my thing. However, I am afraid of giving up my ICU position at a very stable and well-known hospital for a position at a very small clinic. I'm afraid that this will limit my career options in the future. On the other hand, this position could offer me managerial experience and get me away from poop forever (I just can't get used to that!). Plus, I think I might really enjoy infusion nursing. Am I stupid to give up my great job that I don't love?

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time....but I'm selfishly happy to know neither you nor I are in this boat alone. I am starting a new grad program this Monday, and I am scared out of my mind! I got a little taste of what it's like during my preceptorship for school, and I don't know how I am going to manage all of this information on my own . But from reading these boards it seems like many new grads feel this way, so we will just have to keep our heads up!

I'm so happy for you! I think you will do great in any career you pursue, simply because you seem to have the ambition and ingenuity to be successful. I think it's great that you are going to do what is best for YOU! Keep us posted on how it goes!

- You've had a patient tell you that you are a bad person, that she likes you, AND that you will make a good nurse (I was a student at the time) ALL in the same hour. - A patient finds a piece of your hair on your scrubs and then proceeds to put it in his mouth and munch on it as he smiles at you. - Your patient keeps asking you why he is in jail. - Your patient needs suctioning, has ripped out his NG tube and needs meds, and has ripped out his IV from the only extremity that doesn't have a DVT. - Your patient leaves AMA because the nicotine patch just ain't cuttin' it!

I am a new grad in California and my starting at a magnet hospital with a wage of $31/hr (that includes a small differential for BSN). Sounds like a lot, but the cost of living here is extremely high. In any case, I'm thankful just to have a job :)

I put tele as my #1 and the tele/med/surg residency as my #2. My interview is for tele. I think that the most important thing is that we remain confident :)

Oh that's good news! My interview is at Grossmont...I am unbelievably nervous

My understanding is that if you are not contacted by Nov. 22nd, you will not go further in the process. Does anyone know what is next in the process after the interview? Are you hired/dismissed after that, or is there another interview to follow? Also, to those of you who were contacted for an interview, were you instructed to bring letters of recommendation with you? I was not told to bring anything, but I am so nervous that I'm second guessing everything!
