I'd apply to both ABSN and Direct Entry narrow down the right schools and apply to whichever ones you feel will fit best. Either way you'll end up at your goal! Just don't apply to too many, applications are exhausting.

If you're not willing to travel outside that area for direct entry then an accelerated option would be best. Then I'd pursue your masters at one of the large universities in that area as well. Just depends on what exactly your goal is, because BSN, CNL and a masters to become an NP are not just different degrees but very different jobs especially NP.

Almost every single direct entry NP program requires the prerequisite courses. I only know of one, that being Yale, that does not. And undergrad students just fill their elective classes with the prerequisite classes if their degree is in a different field. That's what I did. A&P, Microbiology, Stats, developmental psychology, chemistry, nutrition and so on depending slightly on the school. I've also seen many masters level PA schools that have those same prerequisites along with organic chemistry and such and both require or expect some level of experience.

I have several friends that went to nursing school at UT Knox, and they all had a great experience. Tennessee is definitely a good school. That's about all I know!

Also if you're looking at UMMC as an option I can say with almost certainty they will not take that score... But there are a whole lot of schools that no longer require chemistry at all. But the rest of your prerequisite grades like nutrition, microbiology, stats, and A&P need to be A's or B's. Well in my opinion.

Gotta have that lab! The labs can be fun though, whereas the lecture not so much and in my experience the labs never last the full three hours.

Several minimums below a 3.00 but it may be difficult. I'd recommend taking some more classes to raise your chances or be able some form of higher experience level to the table. It's not impossible to get in, but you're going to need a very strong application (other than the gpa) you also may wish to address your lower than usual scores in your essay or addendum.

I would recommend both, as it will also prepare them if they wish to attend other schools. Stats is required at almost every nursing school in the country as a base requirement. There's no harm in requiring both!

As long as you meet the minimum gpa requirement then you shouldn't be worried. It's about marketing all of your skills, experience, and achievements to the school and conveying strength in character and commitment to the program. If you do that it won't matter if you have a 3.0 or 4.0

I applied to many schools and got two rejections before being accepted to the rest of my schools! Talk to the University. Hunt them down! There's nothing wrong with that GPA. In fact it's excellent. Find a new way to highlight your enthusiasm, determination, and skills! And see if you can expand your selection of schools. Some parts of your application that may be considered deficient at one program may not be somewhere else. Good luck!

I'd recommend applying to both direct entry and accelerated programs! I did! Mostly direct entry though. Narrow down your best options of schools and start preparing your application materials right now. Don't await until august or whenever. And I'm pretty sure their is a website that shows all accelerated programs and direct entry programs. Just search for it and find the schools that interest you most! And that you are qualified to apply to, meaning ones with the prerequisites you already have or you can complete with acceptable grades in your senior year.

If having a masters is your ultimate goal then go now! I'm 22 and headed to graduate school now, come join the fun!

Continue working hard! Study for your GRE as well, but don't be discouraged if don't do well. But I would encourage you to practice the writing a lot. I feel that's the most meaningful score. Also just choose whichever specialty interest you most! It'll be easier to convey your true interest in your essay if you're dedicated to your specialty. Lastly find strong letter of recommendation writers. Pick people who are familiar with your character and enthusiasm. Hopefully it goes well!

It's simple. All A's in everything you possibly can. You can do it if you put in absolutely everything you've got. I use to have lower grades and have friends who will think getting a B or a C is okay and you can't take that approach. Get the A, you're smart enough to ask for help which means you're probably smart enough to achieve the required results. You'll get there! Remove your distractions, talk to teachers, email them, sit in the front of class if you're not already. We did a class study at my university and the average test score went down by four points by every row from the front two in a class of 40 students. So sit up front. And so what if you have to throw in a nonsense class to help your grade out, just be sure to get an A and no more C's! They're officially unacceptable in your life! Good luck!

I agree with the advice above. My major is in zero way related to nursing, and I'm headed to nursing school. I simply picked another field that interest me! All of the other factors play a much bigger role.

I didn't have the opportunity to read all of the posts but I can say my girlfriend is in med school and I'm heading to direct entry np school in the fall. You need to decide what it is you want to do! They have completely different jobs. And you should seriously consider PA school as an option. With that said all of the schools are incredibly challenging. It will consume most of your life for many years, my girlfriend has zero free time. None. You'll need to fully dedicate yourself to your academic courses and clinical rotations. So keep that in mind, good luck!

cnp2012: I'm interested in about how many clinical hours are performed each week and where for the bsn portion? I read some information on the JHU website but it wasn't very detailed. Clinical experience is the probably the biggest factor in making my decision. So I'm trying to gather as much information as possible. Thanks for all of your help thus far by the way!

I know Northeastern deposit deadline for accepted folks is the 18th so perhaps you'll hear after that or soon. It seems like it's decision time for almost everyone now that Hopkins decisions are out. For those accepted to only the ABSN and wanted BSN/MSN i dont know the process for applying to MSN portion while enrolled in the ABSN, perhaps you'll have a leg up in the application process i really have no clue but in my opinion if you've been accepted to good direct entry program that you feel comfortable with, then go!! I'd hate to have to go through this entire application process again! Does anyone have a bit more info on how Hopkins handles their clinicals?

I went ahead and secured my spot MGH and paid the deposit, I'm very fond of their clinical options and just the way the program is set up, a bit over JHU, and I like Boston. I would like to confirm all my options though, I applied for the BSN/MSN and have not heard from them yet. All they said I would get a letter this week or next.

It seems everyone makes their decisions in a different way! That's good hear though, maybe you'll hear more good news from MGH soon too.
