Sounds so exciting! I have a friend who went to fort sanders nursing school before it was affiliated with TWC, it was still a hospital program at that time. She loved it. I hope it's a really good program because TWC is crazy expensive. I noticed that they don't have a separate pathophysiology course, so do you learn the pathophys as you go? One thing that was in the Twc nursing report from employers was that the nurses who graduate from twc had "extensive knowledge of pathophysiology". How challenging would you say the program is? Also, what's the chemistry course like? My friend who graduated high school last year valedictorian and a 30 something ACT said she's struggling to keep her head above water. She said its "Intro to gen/organic/Biochem" and she says it covers all the main topics from each area but that they do it at a breakneck pace. She said its a very fast paced course and has weeded quite a few people out. She says it covers the topics the premeds would have in those courses but they do it in one semester. To sum it all up, how hard is the chemistry? Or any other prereqs? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I start this fall and am so excited!

Could you tell me anything about the advanced nursing course? Really interested in that. Nancy said that few programs offer ICU nursing in the curriculum and that Id receive "extensive icu training"

I've heard that the program is heavy on clinicals, which I think is great. Have you gotten to the advanced nursing course yet? That's the one I'm most interested in. Do you feel like you are really getting the theory part as well in the program? I know some programs are usually one or the other, sometimes they don't have a good mix of theory and clinicals. Lol

Has anyone gone through TWC-FSN nursing program? I'm interested in attending here and it appears to be a good program. Nancy, the advisor told me they give students extensive training in ICU in the "advanced nursing" course and that that's unheard of in most BSN programs. So has anyone been? How was it? Pros/cons? Any info would be great! :)

I noticed those Lee specific courses. I think I'm going to go to UT since they are very respected and their nurses are sought after upon graduation. Their nursing program is highly respected. Many people apply each year (roughly 800) and they admit a class of 120. Another thing is UTK nursing is extremely competitive. Instead of being admitted to the program your sophomore/junior year, UTK either accepts or declines you when you apply to UT in high school. So whether you get in or not is based solely on high school work. The average high school GPA is 4.1 and average ACT is 28 for nursing. UTK has nine academic colleges (engineering, Law, social work. ETC.) and UT nursing has the highest requirements of all nine colleges. Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing Lee's program but they are just beginning theirs and I think it'd be wise to go to a program that's already been around a long time and is highly respected and sought after. I forgot to add that Lee is just beginning their nursing program which starts this fall. I'm looking and applying for fall 2015 which would give them a year to work out the kinks. They also say that they will construct a nursing building which will open in fall 2016. I'm currently looking at nursing schools and would like to know which one you guys think would give me a better nursing education. I'm having a tough time deciding. Look at the curriculums and compare. Any help would be appreciated! Lee is a private Christian university and UTK is a public state university which just opened a $2 million nursing simulation lab. I can tell you that I live about 40 minutes away from UTMC and they have a wonderful ER. It's one of the largest in the region with over 50 beds. They're also level 1 trauma and academic medical center. The staff there is wonderful and I've heard it's a wonderful place to work. They also are a Magnet hospital. Thank you for taking the time to respond! I guess I should say MICU is what I'm interested in because you're right I won't know what I like till I get out there and do it lol

As I've stated before, I know what an MICU does for the most part, but I'm sure there are things that I haven't heard about. I've been readings icufaqs.org. The reason I've already picked a specialty is because my grandmother was MICU RN. She told me what they did but said that it's probably changed since she was working. That's why I asked. I know what they do, I'm not stupid.

I know general things that an ICU nurse does but it varies from person to person so I want different people to explain what it's like in their unit and what they do. Just to clarify I'm worried about my grades getting into nursing school not getting a job. Thanks for replying guys!

Hey guys, I'm new here and thought I'd ask a few questions. What do MICU nurses do exactly? What kind of certifications do they receive (CRRT, ACLS etc.). I want to be an MICU nurse so bad. In my area we have an academic medical center "The University of Tennessee Medical Center" in Knoxville, TN. The thing is I'm worried about my grades. I struggle in math and Algebra 2 is killing me this year. Could anyone offer advice? Thanks.
