Help!!!!! What is the priority in sickle cell cris?
ABC- airway, breathing, curculation. Sickle cells are defective red blood cells, therefore they do not carry enough oxygen -thus hypoxia. So administering oxygen would be the priority. I'd then probably administer morfine to decrease O2 demand, Then start an IV.

Nursing School Makeup (clinicals)
Be careful with make up, most clinical professors will make you go home if they deem it inappropriate/too heavy. Personally I make sure to exfoliate and moisturizer my face so that my skin looks fresh and healthy. I then dab a bit of concealer under my eyes ( night shifts will make your eyes look puffy). I use a little blush, because I am very pale. Sometime I put on mascara, but it depends how tired I look. For my eyebrows I use tinted gel, my eyebrow hairs are sporifice and much lighter than my hair. Honestly this is all I do. You don't need much to look good, just need to look yourself. :)

Worst semester ever!
And nursing school is not "real world"?

Should I take Biology Lab before Anatomy?
Biology is extremely basic, it's pretty much stuff that you learn in high school. I wouldn't worry about it too much and just take anatomy. That's what I did anyway, and had an A+.

Bunion surgery
Pain is such a subjective thing isn't it! I'm glad you had a good experience with bunion surgery. How bad were they? What kind of surgery did you have? I'm sure the pain level is directly related to this factor. I had two toes broken and screws put in as well as a soft tissue cut out. I'm usually good with pain as well, but I guess i wasn't ready for this much of it. It didn't last too long, just one day, so it's not bad at all, as I know some people are in severe pain for days or even weeks. Hope my recovery can be as easy as yours was!

Bunion surgery
Try toe separators, they help a lot with the pain. I even wore them with my shoes! It's a temporary relief though:(

Bunion surgery
Just something to think about, as we get older recovery will be much harder, healing slowed. As well as the severity of the bunion will require a more complicated, and more involved surgery. My bunion was in a moderate state, yet it still required bone breaking and screws, actually my fifth toe as well(it also had a bunionette). It has been 3 days post op, I haven't taken oxycodone since the second day. There is no more pain, just uncomfortable, swollen, and a little burning on the incision sites. Honestly, if the end when I heal I no longer feel pain, I will for sure consider a second surgery for my left foot. The worst part for me is the no walking, staying in bed rule. I'm a very active person naturally, and to have to be in bed for 98% of the day is quiet annoying. I am not very good with crutches, besides for the first week foot needs to be elevated most of the time anyway. I remember having the same feeling about having a surgery. I have been putting it off for years. I'd see a doctor, schedule a procedure, and few days before I'd cancel it. Until It got so bad that I'd cry and limp from the very first few steps in the morning. I had ulcers between my toes from them rubbing on each other(extremely painful). In the end this truly is an individuals decision, but trust me, when the time comes(and it will) surgery will be a sweet relief.

Bunion surgery
I think I know why the orthopedist had that opinion(about both feet at the time). The pain truly is excruciating, although my mind has already blocked it out, just like when I had my daughter. I remember that I was in agony, but I don't really remember the pain all that well(although it might as well be those oxys hmm). I don't know if I will do the second foot. I haven't yet healed from my first procedure, so I don't know if its worth it. Thank you for your reply!

Bunion surgery
Thanks for your reply. I figured as much from reading up on this type of surgery on other forums. Different people have different experiences. I've heard that nurses are very prone to bunions and this forum seemed like a good place to post.

Bunion surgery
Thank you for replying! I wasn't actually looking for medical advise. Thought that maybe some people out there Also had this procedure done and have something to share. Like how long were they in bed, was it incredibly painful, and if they are happier post up? This is personal opinion/advice not medical.

Bunion surgery
Hi! I had a surgery on Friday on my right foot. My big toe had a moderate bunion as well as my pinky toe (tailors bunion). Doctor had to break both bones. My question is if anyone has some experience with this type of surgery? How long will it take before I can ditch the crutches and walk in orthopedic boot? My pain has subsided from a 10 to a 3. I am anxious to be able to take care of myself again. Any input or advice is greatly appreciated!

"No One Respects My Religious Beliefs"
I don't think that praying is the problem here. The problem is that this nurse leaves the floor without making sure that someone can/wants to cover for her. She cannot leave the patients for whatever the reason. What if one of them dies? Is that a risk one is willing to take? What's wrong with praying on the floor?

"No One Respects My Religious Beliefs"
I could not understand what you wanted to say by this post? Time for prayers is not set? So she can pray at home, and not endanger patients? Am I the only one lost?

Caring for Obese Patients
I'm so sorry about your car accident. Also, I'm sorry that you are struggling with your weight, and the way people perceive and treat you because of it! I know how hard it is! While I'm not over weight, my mother is, and no matter how hard she tries, she's always back where she started. In contrast, I am a skinny person. I weigh 112lbs 5'5", so quiet thin. I am always being commented on, (bones are for dogs etc). No matter how hard I've tried to gain weight, it never sticks. I gained almost 50lbs when I was pregnant, but it was all gone by the first year after birth. I don't eat like a bird too, so calories is not the problem here. My point is that people will critics others no matter their size. We're too fat, too skinny, too tall, too short, you name it. You can't please everyone. Just try to be the best that you can be, not what someone wants you to be.

Failed at 265 questions three times now any advice?
When you did practice questions, where you getting them right? Get a few NClex practice question book, and practice, practice, practice. See which areas you're weak in, and focus on them. Then after you have read the material, do practice questions again. Make sure you understand what the question is asking. Are you good with priority questions? Can you choose the best answer from a few possible choices? If not, then read a strategy on how to do that. Good luck!

Pegnant in school
I know a few women that were pregnant during school, and to be honest they always looked miserable. Not enough sleep, not enough time to study. One woman took a semester off, and when she came back said that it was extremely hard to get into the routine. Listen, there are people that it worked for and there are that it haven't. Only you know your situation. If you have a good support system, and will be able to study each day 2-4 hour uninterrupted, then it's doable. Of course you may feel guilty over missing out on your children's milestones, but settings gotta give right? Personally I have a toddler, I went for nursing when she was 10 month. I did full time on the weekends, while her dad watched her. Even two days a week were hard for me to be away from her. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!!

Nyu should I go?????or Felician
Your fathers is right, all it matter is the end is that you have a license. This question whether or not school has any impact on finding a job has been discussed a bazillion time, and everyone agrees that it does not. Good luck to you with whatever school you choose to go with!

A nurse who doesn't breastfeed
For me it's not an issue who does what with their children. I think the dilemma comes from moms that are fully capable of breastfeeding, yet choose not to. One girl I know said that her boobs will sag, pardon my language, that's not an acceptable reason for me. Again, I don't condemn anyone for not breastfeeding, it's just that I have strong opinion about it, that is all. As a mom who breastfed I have to say that I felt like I was in a minority all of the time. When I have birth, the nurses "assumed" that I'd formula feed my child, so without asking they gave her formula, even though I never consented. Lactation nurse didn't even try to encourage or show how to properly breastfeed, even after I've requested it. I had nurses coming in bringing me boxes of formula when I specifically told them that I didn't need it. Every time I'd breastfeed in public(under a cover) Id get stares, nods and comments(some positive, but many negative). I feel like a lot of people don't even want to try to breastfeed anymore, there's formula, it's on the market, so it must be good...

Nasty nurses
You will go very far with that mind set! Let me ask you this, when you go to the store it anywhere else where you don't know people do you disrespect them? Since you say respect has to be earned let's just be nasty to random people in our life, because we don't know them, and they haven't done anything to get our respect? Do you disrespect your PTs as well? Or do they earn your respect first?? To OP, I would confront her, tell her exactly how you feel, and ask if you guys can work on something in order to accommodate the both of you. It's not middle school, if she's smart she'll get the point.

Sunscreen
My child is a toddler and I absolutely apply SPF for her. We had a teaching session with her, so she isn't resistant to do it.
