  1. Sounds like the annual Christmas party every single year where I used to work. Never did attend, but the stories I heard after were quite amusing! (Of course, this was the same hospital where the head nurse of our unit took all the new hires out and bought us shots at the completion of orientation!)
  2. I'm just curious....why would there be a lawsuit over a patient sleeping vs. resting with eyes closed (assuming both chart patient is breathing, in no distress, etc). What is the issue here?
  3. It sure ain't me. I do private duty...
  4. When my husband worked retail many years ago, he had the absolute laziest boss who was always looking for any excuse to get out of working. One day she hurriedly left work in the middle of the day. Her excuse? She had called home and her daughter answered the phone, and because of this she couldn't be certain her husband was really watching her! She was a piece of work!....or not!
  5. I'd rather work short than work with a nurse who is vomiting and has diarrhea. Personally, I have never called in with little notice, but I have had to leave work 3 times during my years as a nurse due to being ill. 2 times I went straight to the ER and ended up in the hospital and the other time was because I started feeling sick during the shift and knew I was going to end up vomiting. So after reporting off, I left work and sped home as fast as I could (30 miles away) and made it 2 blocks from my house before having to pull over and throw up! So close yet so far!!! 😭 (and I did get an "incomplete shift" mark by my name, but I didn't care. I didn't have any other attendance issues).
  6. It's 48° and sunny here. It feels like I am on a different planet! Stay warm and safe, everyone. I have been thinking of you all since all this started.
  7. Texas 😩
  8. The high on Sunday where I live is going to be 69. In January. 😡
  9. Am I the only one who now can't get the song "Whip it" by Devo out of my head?
  10. While I find the NICU nurse's actions reprehensible, shouldn't we go through proper channels and chains of command before bringing in the "big dogs", so to speak? I honestly find it a little disturbing that so many people's first reaction (I'm not singling you out...just making a point) is to report to the BON, when it should and could be handled first through the employers.
  11. Whenever anyone asks me for nursing advice, I always tell them if they are over 1 year old and greater than 20 pounds, I don't know what to do with them! I love taking care of babies. My current charge started out as a baby when I took him on. He is now 3, and he is the oldest patient I have cared for in over 20 years (and when he doesn't need my pdn services anymore, I plan to move on to another baby...) I think we all have our preferences and where we feel comfortable. I WISH I were more adult oriented, because I have wanted to hospice for as long as I can remember, but I'm having trouble with transitioning to a population I haven't cared for in many, many years.
  12. I'm 43 and feel very young, except I have bad feet (flat as pancakes and prone to tendinitis, plus some nasty heel spurs). That alone will limit my options as I get older. I simply cannot be on my feet for extended periods of time. I started doing private duty 2 1/2 years ago, and it is definitely the perfect pace for anyone wanting out of the craziness of floor nursing. Not sure if I will do it indefinitely (I have always wanted to do hospice), but it has been great thus far.
  13. ...till a mass norovirus outbreak occurs. (*shudders*)
  14. I've ever worked a unit where I did not have to be cross-trained and/or floated to other units for staffing purposes.
  15. Right now about 10 minutes. Living in a large metroplex, this is highly unusual! My prior commutes have been 30 min- 1+ hours depending on traffic.
  16. If it were, there wouldn't be a practicing nurse left.
  17. Um...ever had chocolate gravy on a biscuit? You're welcome.
  18. Or make it so unpalatable they won't eat much!
  19. Went to nursing school with a woman who was pregnant (and had a toddler at home). She delivered on a Friday and was back in school on Monday without missing a beat. It can be done.
  20. My dog HATES riding in the car. She wimpers and freaks out the whole time! It is obnoxious! I always get a bit envious when I see dogs riding along with their heads hanging out the window and the look of sheer doggie delight on their wind swept faces!
  21. I'm going to have to put my gray boy on a diet. My daughter weighed him the other day and he was 22 pounds! His brother weighs 9! I've never had an obese cat before. Does anyone know any good cat foods for weight loss? He is a weird cat and will not touch canned food or regular meat. He is dry food only (or crunchy as it is known in our house).
  22. Maybe it's the angle of the picture, but those are some super long legs!
  23. They are beautiful! I LOVE Siamese cats!!
  24. Here is my orange boy. He is actually the brother of my fat gray boy, though you'd never know it. They could not be more different! (He is dirty from rolling around on the ground outside!)
