OR-specific scrubs
A topic came up that I thought was interesting...how many hospitals have OR nurses wear OR-specific scrubs (hospital issued, usually)?

It's a lot of information to process and a huge time commitment. BUT, I feel like the teachers are doing an awesome job of being accessible to answer questions and instruct us during labs and such. First test today!

Is adequate rest the most important factor in enjoying night shift?
Great advice...thanks!

I definitely wouldn't plan anything between. I would think of those as "work days." I mean, you've gotta sleep!

sorry, so what was the advice of your preceptor? And why do you dislike working three nights in a row?

Does it mean less time with your children though? I feel like with day shift I'd barely see my children. They'd be getting ready for bed when I was getting home, and I would leave in the AM before they're even up. Whereas with night shift, I'd see them in the afternoons after school 3:30-6ish to reconnect before I leave for work.

I've always felt like a night owl. And nights would be great for me logistically. My children will all be in school when I graduate, so I'd come home to an empty house (daddy can get them on the bus before he leaves for work), and sleep until I have to get the kids off the bus 6-7 hours later. Of course I could also send them to the after school program to make that 7-8 hours. Then I'd have a few hours with my kids, rather than just being home to tuck them into bed on work days (like if I worked day shift). My family is very supportive, and my husband would never interrupt my daytime sleep unless it was a true emergency (like a "one of our children is in the hospital" emergency). Our house is nice and quiet during the day, too, especially during the school year. And I know from the baby days that I'm a great daytime sleeper. But I'd be nervous to take a nights position and then discover that it's just not right for my body like over heard some people say.

So would you say there's anyway to predict whether you'll be successful on night shift without actually doing it?

I'm wondering if people who dislike night shift bc they feel that it wreaks havoc on their bodies feel that way because they are unable to get adequate rest for whatever reason? Anyone out there have a hard time physically with night shift despite being able to get adequate rest?

kaiwahine is right. It's not your AIS that counts, but rather your percentile. But to answer your question, I had a 93.9% AIS, and 99th percentile overall. I also scored 99th percentile in all content areas, except for math, where I scored in the 96th percentile.

The gentleman in the security office at the NEC said that there is usually someone there until about 3 or 3:30. The number for the security desk is on the website. :)

I'm also broke like it's my job. I am skipping the tablet for now, and will borrow my husband's iPad if I need it. If it becomes a thing I will buy one, but the students who talked to us at orientation made it seem like they weren't all that necessary.
