  1. A topic came up that I thought was interesting...how many hospitals have OR nurses wear OR-specific scrubs (hospital issued, usually)?
  2. It's a lot of information to process and a huge time commitment. BUT, I feel like the teachers are doing an awesome job of being accessible to answer questions and instruct us during labs and such. First test today!
  3. I definitely wouldn't plan anything between. I would think of those as "work days." I mean, you've gotta sleep!
  4. sorry, so what was the advice of your preceptor? And why do you dislike working three nights in a row?
  5. Does it mean less time with your children though? I feel like with day shift I'd barely see my children. They'd be getting ready for bed when I was getting home, and I would leave in the AM before they're even up. Whereas with night shift, I'd see them in the afternoons after school 3:30-6ish to reconnect before I leave for work.
  6. I've always felt like a night owl. And nights would be great for me logistically. My children will all be in school when I graduate, so I'd come home to an empty house (daddy can get them on the bus before he leaves for work), and sleep until I have to get the kids off the bus 6-7 hours later. Of course I could also send them to the after school program to make that 7-8 hours. Then I'd have a few hours with my kids, rather than just being home to tuck them into bed on work days (like if I worked day shift). My family is very supportive, and my husband would never interrupt my daytime sleep unless it was a true emergency (like a "one of our children is in the hospital" emergency). Our house is nice and quiet during the day, too, especially during the school year. And I know from the baby days that I'm a great daytime sleeper. But I'd be nervous to take a nights position and then discover that it's just not right for my body like over heard some people say.
  7. So would you say there's anyway to predict whether you'll be successful on night shift without actually doing it?
  8. I'm wondering if people who dislike night shift bc they feel that it wreaks havoc on their bodies feel that way because they are unable to get adequate rest for whatever reason? Anyone out there have a hard time physically with night shift despite being able to get adequate rest?
  9. Define "ready..."
  10. Any idea what we are supposed to wear to the class meetings on Mon, Aug. 22?
  11. kaiwahine is right. It's not your AIS that counts, but rather your percentile. But to answer your question, I had a 93.9% AIS, and 99th percentile overall. I also scored 99th percentile in all content areas, except for math, where I scored in the 96th percentile.
  12. The gentleman in the security office at the NEC said that there is usually someone there until about 3 or 3:30. The number for the security desk is on the website. :)
  13. I'm also broke like it's my job. I am skipping the tablet for now, and will borrow my husband's iPad if I need it. If it becomes a thing I will buy one, but the students who talked to us at orientation made it seem like they weren't all that necessary.
  14. Good news! My tuitionappears to be correct now!
  15. Cool, thanks! Glad it doesn't require us to get the books before we can use financial aid.
  16. What assignments are we going to have?
  17. Hah! Great minds think alike! starting August 15, you can go to the bookstore with your schedule and your student number and purchase your books using financial aid funds. However, the bookstore is only authorized to use $1000 of financial aid funds, but can apparently get further authorization for the other $300 or so to make up the difference. But you'll likely have to pay for the HESI testing pack on your own they said. Next semster, the HESI pack and other supplies can be covered with financial aid funds since we won't have that huge cost of the book bundle from the first semester.
  18. I have spoken to a few other people, and on top of the higher tuition, another friend of mine is being charged twice for the same class with two different tuition rates. They are obviously experiencing some sort of technical difficulty at the cashiers office. I'm officially not worried about it anymore. I will call on Monday, because everyone should do their due diligence and inundate them with phone calls until it is fixed. However, if somebody at John Tyler realizes the mistake earlier, it may be fixed over the weekend.
  19. I just heard back from my nonnursing friend, and she also was overcharged for tuition. I am thinking that this is a widespread error on John Tyler's part.
  20. Obviously can't call until Monday, but I tweeted about it and messages the SNA and the JTCC Facebook pages about it. Also asked some other non-nursing ppl I know at Tyler if their tuition is funky. I calculated it, and it's a charge of $276.50/credit hour instead of the $146.75! That's close to double!!!
  21. Holy hell. Yes, mine says the same thing. I can't figure out why it would be so high!
  22. My insurance won't cover any of it, so I'm doing mine through accessalabs.
  23. I believe that's the meeting on Aug 22, and we may have meetings during that time slot during the semester. I could be wrong though! And, yes, I have signed up for classes.
  24. They only have Landau pants in one style, but I was able to try on for size within the brand. I think we are going to have to stick with Landau because apparently their wine/burgundy is different than other brands.
