Anyone have any experience using the RetCam to take opthamalogic pictures for your ROP exams? Who performs them in your unit?

I had the same thing happen to me about 2 weeks ago and I have been struggling with myself with what to do. There was an exam I did not do well on and Im normally an A/B student. She sarcastically told me "Theres a book for our class, you should read it" In front of my clinical group too. It was completely unprofessional. So much for her being a mentor lol. BUT I think Im going to finish out the course then talk to another instructor from an older course in the program to see what she thinks without mentioning names. :) Best of luck to you. Wish you wouldn't have withdrawn so quickly.

Thank you so much! I currently work at a hospital in CA as a unit secretary. so I'm hoping scoring a new grad spot will be at a slight advantage, but I want a back up plan. I just wanted to make sure I didn't shoot myself in the foot if I need so many hours of actual RN experience prior to transferring state licenses.

Hi guys! Is anyone familiar with going to school in one state and practicing in another? I am currently in CA but my husband and I are seriously thinking about moving to AZ. I went on the AZ BRN site and this is what it read I wanted clarification, So I graduate and just show them my transcripts and I can sit for the AZ boards? Or if I sit in CA and pass then decide to move to AZ after do I retake my boards in AZ or is it an easy transfer?..... To be eligible for RN licensure you must: Hold a Diploma, Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an approved program.NOTE: Nurses educated in the Armed Forces must meet this requirement. Have a passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®), OR have a score of 1600 on the NCLEX-RN® if the examination was taken prior to July 1988, OR have a score of not less than 350 on each part of the State Board Test Pool Examination (SBTPE) for professional nurses. Have previous or current license in another state or territory. Have met one of the following practice requirements: Practiced as a nurse for 960 hours or more in the past 5 years or Graduated from a nursing program and obtained a degree within past 5 years or Completed an Arizona Board approved refresher course in the past 5 years or Obtained an advanced nursing degree in the past 5 years (i.e. LPN to RN, RN to BSN, masters, or doctorate). [*]Excelsior graduates enrolled after 9/1/06, who have not practiced for 960 hours as an RN in another state must request theschool to submit transcripts directly to AZBN showing completion of 120 hours Clinical Nursing Course.

I fully support random drug testing! They should do things like this for many other things in life too lol..... welfare, financial aide, etc

Thanks Barcode, yeah looking forward to getting a head start and seeing if Im gonna sink or swim kind of thing. Luckily I just went down to per diem so I only have to work 1 day a week. I got my letter also. I was an alternate last semester so this is my 2nd time doing orientation lol. Its 3 days of people telling you what to expect, studying, time management, learning skills, etc then Id say 1 good day's worth of actual information like where to buy scrubs, books, wheres the simulation lab, what our schedule will look like as the semesters go. etc They will give you info on background check, drug tests and health screening. The only annoying part is the general info on mt sac where if your already a student you know these basics and then the 101 dumb questions students ask that have already been asked, spoken about or clearly printed on your handouts lmao. it seems to me that most students who have a part time job at a hospital usually have a shoe in once they graduate. Volunteering in a non medical environment I would think isnt as relevant compared to say volunteering in a hospital. But every little bit counts :) good luck

I like Cherokee, they have x-small,x-tall which works great for me since Im tall and skinny. My scrubs dont look so baggy on me but yet arent inappropriately tight.

Thank goodness for that waitlist!! lol Its so frustrating re-applying to 5 different nursing programs every single semester but now Im in :)

Sounds fun! Cant Wait!! I was an alternate for this past spring but they only used i believe 8 alternates but Fall is for sure! How much study time do you think you put in outside of class? I know everyones different but I like hearing about everyones situations :)

Hey guys! Im #16 and start Fall 13. I know this is an older post so Im hoping someone can give me an idea of how Mt Sacs program is. I have friends in Saddleback, Golden west, Santa Ana and Cypress lol but I know no one in Mt Sac. Any advice or opinions?

wow all 3 pre-reqs in one semester is pretty gnarly! but if your a strong student and a supportive family to help out with the 3 yr old I guess its doable :) good luck

I think in my opinion i would rather take micro with either anatomy or physiology but not Anat with physi. It would be difficult learning Anat of a particular system while the same time learning the physiology of a different system. Id rather nail out location/names at one time and then learn the function at a different time. :) But it has been done, normally by younger kids who live at home and dont work so they can actually take the time to have such a full load. Its hard with a family and work as im sure you know.

Ive never heard of a bridge program for MAs. I went to school for ma a long time ago but I ended up taking the normal route for RN but I only looked at CA AZ NV perhaps things are different in other states. good luck

I waited 2 years and finally start Fall 13. its worth it :)
