  1. I guess it depends on where you live. If you live in a bigger city with public transit then not having a car may not be a problem. Its kind of a given if you live in a rural area. Having a car isn't a requirement but its nice. Idk about where you live but our bus system isn't always on time and isn't particularly extensive. So I just do not trust it to get me to school/clinical on time. Not to mention if the public transits times do not line up with your class times it could end up being very inconvenient. In my opinion its important because if I'm late its on me, if I was riding the bus it could be completely out of my hands but I would still get reprimanded for it.
  2. We start the 21st and our orientation was Monday. Our program just went through a major overhaul. They've done away with high stakes testing and the dreaded first day pharm test. We all freaked out when we did not receive a packet with our acceptance letter but it turns out its a very good thing. I absolutely love my instructors and how they say the program will be. I haven't been able to prepare as much as I'd like though. We received our packet Monday with clinical requirement and it ALL has to be done by the second week of school! I'm freakin out about the $400+ of vaccines, titers, etc. Not to mention we cant buy our books if we have FA until Monday! yea, Holy crap! I have twelve chapters to read by Wednesday. ugh. here. we. go.
  3. You can work in other states. The rumor is completely false. the NLNAC accreditation has nothing to do with working in other states. Even if you graduate from an accredited school or if Augusta tech does receive the accreditation you will still have to go through a process to get licensed in another state. You're not automatically license in all states because a program is accredited by the NLNAC. The accreditation is very nice to have and helps tremendously with other colleges accepting credits and looks wonderful on a resume but you are allowed and can work in other states if your school does not have it.
  4. We start school the 19th and our clinicals start the 23rd of September. So 5 weeks in. Nursing foundational concepts (nursing 1201) for us starts off like a CNA class learning the basics so don't worry you'll only do in clinicals what you have been checked off on in lab.
  5. I'm right with you on the country thing..Im normally in jeans, a tshirt and my hairs pulled through the back of a hat. We live on 11 acres and I'm always doing yard work. I think Ive worn makeup maybe 4 days this summer since I haven't had any classes. I'm lazy if I don't have a reason I'm not putting make up on. I'm excited to get back into looking girly again. Sad I know.
  6. I'm thinking nice pair of jeans, pumps and a blouse or tank and blazer. All of my heels are 4in +. I have a vision of me falling or twisting my ankle and looking like a complete dweeb so I'm not even attempting that. I've been debating on pleading my case to hubby for a new orientation outfit. I cant believe I'm putting this much thought into this :/
  7. My orientation is in 3 days! Orientation Monday and then CPR class Tuesday! sooo excited. Then school starts the 21st! I cant believe its so close! I've been trying to decide what to wear for a week. I want to make the best impression possible.
  8. Our LPN is very much like that . Pretty much the exact same because the LPN program is held at satellite campus' along with the main campus where ADN is only held at the main campus. Our ADN is only a few years old maybe 5 at the most and we were being evaluated for our initial accreditation by the NLN. We re approved by the BON and can get licensed and work. I think a lot of students thought our program was not going to receive the accreditation but we did. I think the small class size was to only pick the top 4.0 students so hopefully NCLEX pass rates will be high the next few years to keep the accreditation. But of course that's speculation. Either way I'm ecstatic about being accepted and cant wait to start! I don't know how well I would do with the distance learning though. I'm way less likely to procrastinate in an on campus class. Good luck!
  9. OT assistants have 2-3yr programs in my area and have more science classes so to speak. I believe that would be more comparable to an ADN as far as time of completion, course load, and clinical time. They take more anatomy, kinesiology and chemistry classes at colleges in my area. You can always look at your local colleges catalog and it should show courses required and time of completion.
  10. Actually I'm not in school yet and I'm about 100% sure that's all who were accepted. We had to accept our seat by the 24 of June and alternates were notify the day after and had a week to accept their seat as well. Registration is now closed and no one can be added after it is closed. Our orientation is a week away. If you're not invited to orientation you're not in the program. So yes, really we only have 19 students in an ADN program. Wow I thought my class size was small. 9 people? I'm envious.
  11. I just went to check out my nursing roster and there are only 19 people starting my program in the fall! I don't know if they only had that many meet requirements or what. I thought in previous terms they accepted 40 but we only have 19 this year. Idk why but I cant complain about a small class size. How many are in your class? Id this strange to only have this many starting a class?
  12. In our school and a few others I know of you cant wear lab coats during clinicals...only from your car to clinical site or around the hospital on break. We have to take it off on the floor. I have no clue why and its on our purchase list as recommended....sigh. I agree with PP to check before you purchase..
  13. I know our school offers advice on regions student loans, Sallie Mae and 5th/3rd bank. Region loan require you to be working I believe. I received Sallie Mae because I'm not working while in school and they have a deferment plan like fed. loans. You apply online for Sallie Mae and I believe Regions. This is how it went with my school but I have no clue how your school will handle it. I applied online for the loan. They allowed me to add a cosigner if needed and they told pretty much immediately if I qualified. They let me choose how much I needed/wanted. then they told me how much they are willing to give me. Then choice loan terms and agree to them. The application is sent to my school in order for the Financial aid office to "certify" the loan. the loan will be dispersed to the school and at my school I can either cash the check or place the money on my account at the book store. I know how hard it is trying to secure money for school. I hope I helped!
  14. We have to take two gen ed course while in the program. Somehow how we have to fit human development and speech in there somewhere. I opted to take human development this semester because I love pysch and tend to do good in those classes because they interest me so much. This put me at 14hrs and I have a 3yr old who is nothing but energy. So I have to crack down and MAKE mommy alone time. My hubby and I had a talk about my hours and how much support I will need while in the program and sharing chores, responsibilities and stuff. He said hes up for it too. I know its doable but nowhere close to easy. If you have someone to help you and support you Id say go for but if I didn't have hubby I know I couldn't manage it very well. You know what class load you can personally handle.
  15. At my local technical College in GA, tuition+fees for this semester is 1464 for 14 credit hours for my first semester in the nursing program. I receive pell because my father is retired and draws social security (yes I was a laaaatteee baby for him) and also a SEOG grant. The only loan I need is a $1000 loan per semester for the remainder of books and supplies that my grants will not cover which is like $100 but I have to take a minimum loan amount of $1000(private loan). My school just recently stopped issuing federal loans because of the amount of students that were not paying them back.So I'll be $7000 in debt by the end of it all I believe give or take.
