  1. adn graduate

I have asked that a lot. The answer I get most often is that the hospital would rather not, but if they are not able to staff the ICU they will.
  2. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!

I don't know if this is any comfort but, you are feeling what almost every nursing student before you felt (not that I would admit to it in front of my class mats at the time). I gave my first shot in a "dart like motion". Too bad for my patient, I...
  3. Lowest blood sugar...?

I am an RN studant and work as an ACP on the weekends. 1 month ago I was freaked out at a BS of 22. Then 2 weeks ago I go into a lady's room. She's unresponsive, but breathing. I see her uneaten lunch. I take her BS and it just says "LO". I kno...
  4. First day alone went great! :)

I'm a student. It's nice to hear a GOOD first day. Usually all I read about are the horror stories. Thanks for the post. It makes me feel less nervous.
  5. Is anyone else a little...lost?

I am only a second term student, but my classmates sometimes complained about the nursing staff when I had the best reaction with them possible. I think part of it was that I was aware I was a nuisance. I would start of many questions with, "I know...
  6. Interview Questions

The question I remember best is what d you do if you enter a pt.'s room and they are not responding. Remembered to check vitals, and ask about DNR. Good Luck.
  7. Cna Before Rn

In NE Florida, after you complete your first term of the nursing program, you can work as an assosiate care provider (ACP). An ACP is interchangeable with a CNA. That may be an easier route.
  8. Nervous about Nursing program! Please help!!

Congrats to getting accepted. That in itself shows that you are smart and work hard. The self doubt you are feeling will ease, but if you are like me come back over and over again. It's OK though, everybody else in your class will be feeling the s...
  9. Nasty situation - need advice

I agree whole heartedly with llg. Also, that the next time you are given a position of authority, act with authority and good communication skills even if it is just temporary/casual position.
  10. 77% Rule

In my program you have to have an 80% average on all test. The last final I took the was 22% of that average. When you think of how many people you would kill being right 4 out of 5 times it's not so bad. It's kinda scary either way.
  11. Failed because of the HESI? Huh?

At my school it is just used as a tool to locate your weak areas. They scheduled it during finals week 3 hrs before our Pharm. final. One guy (needing to cram for the final to make an A) just marked a for every question. He finnished the 2 hr test...
  12. How was your first week in nursing school?

We had a med calc test a week before classes started (the week of finals for my last pre-req.s). First week 16 chapters to read. My first ten minutes, "Let's jump in, this is how you insert a folley catheter." Then we all had to demonstrate what w...
  13. Giving lovenox in LTC

If the business office is making these decisions, then they need to find the loop hole to the madness [like having a roaming nurse assigned to the acute care out patient department or the treatment room in the ER (on weekends)] make rounds giving the...
  14. Im soooo nervous!

I wouldn't have went into my program if I considered quiting as an option. Commit yourself to doing it, then do it. There was a story I heard once: A kid complained to his grandfather he couldn't climb over the fence behind his house. His grandfa...
  15. First day inside a classroom in 22 years!!!

It was 12 years for me. I have done all my pre-req.s and just finished first term in the program. It is do-able. Being older gives you many advantages over the "kids". We may not absorb the info like sponges anymore, but we are more focused and h...
  16. How good at math do I need to be?

If you can pass Algerbra you can definitely do the math needed in nursing. Med. calc. is way more simple than abstract math formulas that you can't figure out the use for. Good luck.
  17. Kadivars and Cats in A&P

Man, I wish I had a cadaver or cats to disect in A&P I&II. I would have loved to have that experience. We did pig hearts and goat kidneys and such.
  18. My GPA was 4.0, but my school has a point system. I CLEPed 3 classes and they were treated as Cs.
  19. Attn: 2nd year ADN students, quick question

Buy the cheapest dosage calc. and med. term. books you can find and study them. Some test questions I miss because I don't know the terminology (4.0 student, but no med back ground). Dosage calc. just for the Apothacary system. Forget "enjoy your ...
  20. Stessed out in KY! Can anyone relate?

Soulshine, way to go on your success so far. I am very similar, I graduated in 92, 4.0 for pre-reqs, married, father, and I work full time. It is hard but, if your CC is on a points system and you have a 4.0 GPA I don't think you should worry too m...
  21. Do Male Nursing Students Get It Easier Than Female?

I have always felt that the student determines how the professor treats that particular student. I was in sales for ten years before going back to school and I use my people skills to foster positive relationships with all my instructors. I could s...
  22. I work full time. Like you, I have idle time at work. I use that time at work and I am very conservative with my time outside of work (don't watch one minute of TV anymore). It's hard but I have a 4.0 so far. If I can do it, you can do it.
  23. The power we yield :)

What a great story. Makes me want to study even harder. Nice to hear something so positive.
  24. Question re: CCCOnline Microbiology

Florida Community College of Jacksonville requires high school chemistry (at least a C), if not taken in high school then at least a C in college Chem. Our statistics at FCCJ show a direct link between the grades made in Chem to Micro. I thought st...
  25. Do colleges hesitate to let you in if you work FT?

I work full time. I just registered for my first term of my cc's nursing program. They didn't ask my work hours, but they practically gave us our schedule ( it's a lotto between 4 similiar schedules). There were 96 of us. If the class schedule did...
