Needed... Public Relations Ideas for failing LDRP
Hello Everyone, Just an update for you. We had a mandatory unit meeting with the "executive staff" today and they have decided to close our unit effective July 1st. No attempt to recruit Dr's, no NICU as promised, just closing. I think if they had tried to save this unit it would have worked, but they didn't even bother. :angryfire I've got 4 weeks to find another job. I've worked here almost 11 years. I can't believe this is happening

re: something to consider...
I agree with you. It seems like people with emotional problems who themselves have been helped through tough times in a psych unit, want to work there to help someone like themselves. I think it's the same for alot of different nursing specialties. For example, if you had a great experience during childbirth, you might choose to become a labor/delivery nurse. I have known a few RNs who had a premie baby and then proceeded to move to a NICU. They can see what a fine job the nurses and staff members do, and they want to be a part of that. However, I'm sorry to hear that those psych nurses took thier own lives. You would think that they would know when and how to find help when the going got tough.

Totally wierd question...
try exfoliating your legs every 3 days or so and use a moisturizer for sensitive skin. You can exfoliate with a loofa sponge and shower gel. Be sure to work the loofa in a circular motion. Rinse loofa well with hot water and let it dry completely before using it again. Hope it helps.

where can I get nursing scrubs in Manhattan?
You can always order them over the internet from your favorite maker i.e. Cherokee, Landau etc... It's easy and they get delivered to your door.

It's the same at our hospital but we are losing patients due to the fact that the Docs would rather deliver thier patients at a hospital with an NICU than split up a mom and baby if the baby needs to be transported.

Why are doctors so rude?
I know what you mean, most of our Docs are nice most of the time, but there is this one Doc who is a COMPLETE JACK@SS each and everytime he comes to the unit. Maybe he just doesn't like our hospital or something but that's no reason to be rude and condesending to all the RNs. Perhaps he's just a miserable person.

Are there several hospitals near yours or is it in a rural area? I ask this because our hospital is one of about 5 or 6 medium sized hospitals within a 50 mile radius. The Docs have privileges at usually 3 or more of these hospitals and so choose to send thier patients to the ones who have NICU in house. There are plenty of patients that would come to our hospital if we had a NICU, but are being advised not to.

Needed... Public Relations Ideas for failing LDRP
Hello everyone, I work in an LDRP unit. Since October we have been losing revenue due to lack of new patients. The Docs won't send them to us because we are the only hospital in the area with no NICU. So, because of this, administration said we were going to get our own NICU starting March 1st. Well... March 1st has come and gone and we still have no NICU. Our unit manager has taken it upon herself to do some PR for our unit and needs ideas. The only problem is, I don't think it will matter how much PR we do if the Docs don't recommend us to thier patients. Any ideas?

How to stay calm if your child is ill?
When my sister's daughter was a newborn, my sister was clipping the baby's nails. She got a little to close to the skin and it started bleeding. She called me (long distance) to ask if I thought she should take her to the ER. :chuckle I said " JANE... it's her fingernail. " Somehow this statement brought my sister back down to earth. But, I can see how anyone would get over excited about thier childs health. MY daughter bleeding from her nose and fainting would definitely cause me to run to the ER.

MRSA abscesses?
we just got a memo from administration about MRSA VS Spider bites. apparently ER was misdiagnosing MRSA abcesses as spider bites. Now every abcess is cultured for MRSA.

Do you wear makeup?
I wish I had time for make-up and hair. I OLAY my face. Then put long hair into pony tail and Voila! Done.

Why are some staff nurses such HATERS!
i thought the reason units used AGENCY nurses was BECAUSE they are short staffed and need the extra help. The nurses should be welcoming Agency nurses with open arms instead of leering eyes.
