  1. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for the best laugh I've had in a long time!!!
  2. Hi, everybody. I just started with this site and am happy to see a section for Oklahoma. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to get many visits, but will check back periodically. I live in OKC, work at Special Care Nursery/NICU at OU Med Ctr and have a love/hate relationship with my job: love the patients, learn something new every day, but hate the frequent staffing crunches (not uncommon to nursing of all types, right?). I am recently remarried to the world's greatest, have some great kids, and now am enjoying being "Nanna". Would not mind getting to know some other Oklahoma nurses out there. Bye for now.
  3. grammyd, hope and pray all turns out OK with your health. Regarding school, I say do what you want to do and don't ever let age be a factor. There will always be somebody younger and somebody older doing what you want to do so just GO FOR IT and have a blast! Lots of people regret not chasing a dream, few regret chasing one.
  4. I agree with those who say to go for what you really want. I got sidetracked away from Peds right after school and it took 12 years to get back to where my heart really is. Those other areas were by no means a waste. I still use past experience in unexpected ways, but wish I had started out in Peds from beginning and would now have that much more of the right kind of experience.
  5. 1.Oklahoma 2.NICU 3.RN/ADN + 4.yes, parent teaching, 5.for it! 6.have in past for migraines 7.yes 8. 9.also for ear infections in 9 mo. old (never had another infection) I have been to some who seem more "quackish" whatever that means as well as some who are strictly in it for the money.
  6. A lesson learned regarding repositioning, even with the neonates: finding a needle cap in the bed under the patient. I can only imagine how uncomfortable that must be if you can't move and can't verbalize.
  7. You don't say if you are in a large city or rural, but here in my big city hospital every unit has lots of openings. Everybody pretty much starts on nights, but usually a day position opens up within a few weeks if you want that.

Oklahoma City, base rate 15.50 plus 3% per year experience and a very low cost of living. The usual shift difs.
  9. Is it worse for you in Winter? I drag out the fine mist humidifier at home when it gets bad and it seems to help lots in the house... By the way, do you have probs with watches stopping when you wear them? My grandma did this and she had a "shocking personality" too.
  10. I scare myself if I don't wear any make-up and pass a mirror, so I figure other people are scared too! So, for everybody's sake I wear just enough to look alive... It really looks weird though, when somebody who doesn't wear make-up suddenly shows up with some on. Not like they shouldn't wear whatever they darn well please. It just seems unneccessary to my eye...
  11. RN/ADN graduated at age 35 and have no regrets after 15 years.
  12. Thanks for bringing up this subject...my daughter and her friend were both told they would have to choose between breastfeeding and taking SSRIs, so I gave them copies of the book mentioned to show their docs HOW UNTRUE!!
  13. Sometimes your age/life experience can work for you. I was hired 2 years ago in my present job at age 48. And now sometimes I'm asked to be relief if the supervisor goes to meetings, etc. in case employee or parent situations arise that call for a "Mom" figure...
  14. Good morning all...I am new to this site and enjoy reading the posts very much. I work in a large NICU/Special Care Nursery and we have several nurses working there with back, hip, or knee problems who can no longer do adult nursing.
  15. Hi, I work in a special care nursery/NICU. I hope the baby is being cared for by a pediatrician. Litle ones are a whole other kind of critter from adults. Regarding constipation, most newborns make a big deal about bowel movementsand are sometimes mistakenly thought to be constipated when they are not. Constipation means the stool is large, hard and difficult to pass, sometimes causing rectal tearing. Some children have daily BMs and are still constipated while others go once a week and are not. Rectal bleeding can be serious, depends on why the bleeding is occuring. Or it might simply be caused by constipation. There are lots of other conditions that cause rectal bleeding, some very serious, others minor. And yes, formula intolerance can cause rectal bleeding. Hope this helps, and hope the little one gets better soon.
