Is there anyone else applying to the FGCU DNP program in Fort Myers Florida? I didn't see any other topics so I thought I'd start one

That's not necessarily true and depends entirely on what area of the country you will be practicing. I am an ASN nurse and got a job in a hospital the month after passing the NCLEX. Since I am in my mid-20s I decided to do the BSN right away, but more so because I want to go to graduate school in the future. I would not recommend that much debt for the BSN.

How many NP programs did you apply to and what made you decide that was the right number? I'm debating whether I should apply to my two top choices or apply to four just in case. My cumulative gpa isn't spectacular at 3.4. I'm finishing up my RN to BSN classes in the next 2 to 3 months with my upper division classes being 4.0. I'm planning to take the GRE in the next few months so hopefully I will get a good score to be more competitive. Just trying to get a feel for what other nurses decided.

I'm interested in knowing the gpa, gre scores, experience, etc. of those admitted to UF's PMHNP program. Currently I am almost done with my RN to BSN program and interested in applying after I finish.

Have you only confined yourself to looking in one section of Florida that is saturated? I am in SWFL if that helps. Almost all of my classmates also have easily obtained jobs months after graduation. I am a new ASN grad in May 2016 and passed the NCLEX June 2016 then in August 2016 got a full-time new grad position. I am not sure if you qualify for new grad programs since it has been over a year since you graduated. 1. Relocation assistance: Nope 2. Whether or not the hospital provides room and board (this would be a plus): Nope 3. Assistance with acquiring of state license: Nope 4. Whether it provides room for educational growth: Once you are a full-time employee over a year you can get some assistance in future education

Hey. Good luck everyone!!! I am in an RN to BSN program, but I finish after the summer semester so next year I am going to apply for Fall 2018 at UM. So I will definitely be watching this thread closely to see what you all go through. Do you mind saying what your gpa is, how much nursing experience you have, and what program you applied for? I'm kind of nervous my gpa won't cut it because my cumulative gpa is only 3.4 and I want to do the fnp I can't wait to hear about when you all get your interviews!

I think the people that get accepted find out June 12th at the latest because on the website it says "*Finalists will be notified within four weeks after application deadlines." I asked after I gave in my application at Lee and she said 1 month from the due date. I have heard that if you aren't accepted you find out later so maybe that is why they said the end of June at Collier. Last year on the Edison thread for the fall they found out just a week after their due date for the application. I hope we find out that fast!

Hi everyone! I applied with 97 points. My first choice is Lee day. I wonder when we will hear back. In regards to the point system, there is no set number. It changes every semester based on the applicants. I remember when I was at orientation in 2013 they said points to get in Lee for the summer were 85 based on the people that applied that cycle. Don't give up hope yet.

I'm 22 now. I started college at 18 (different major) then at 20 realized I wanted to do nursing so my last semester was prereqs. Then the place I was working at part time went bankrupt so I had to take time off of school to work full time and help them close. Then I moved and had to wait a year to get in state tuition. Now I start school again in a few months :) and if I get in the program when I apply I will be 25 when I become an RN.

For most nursing schools the minimum gpa usually doesn't get you in. For example, I know of a few programs with the minimum gpa of 2.5, but the only students that get in have a gpa of 3.3 or above. I have never heard of only being able apply to the one nursing program and not to others. That is odd and I would look into other schools.

Do you know the average gpa of accepted applicants for the nursing schools you want to apply to? The nursing school I am going to apply to has a point system, but I still need to be maintain aleast a 3.5 gpa to stay competitive. Find out if they accept students with your gpa and if not you will have to retake the classes that bring it down. I don't think you should become an LPN if you don't plan on working as one. Your working situation isn't your boyfriend's parents business because you don't live with him. If you lived with him I could understand their concern. For most schools, you have to apply to the school and be accepted. Then you can apply to the nursing program. This is because nursing programs are very competitive and have a limited space.

For Fall 2013 I am going to take a&p 1 and statistics. Then apply for my ADN program starting in the summer. Spring 2014 I will finish my coreqs a&p 2 and micro right before I start the program, as long as I get in when I plan.

Do not feel bad for pursuing your dreams older than you would have liked. Life happens! I started to feel the same way you do until I started a thread on here and got so many amazing and encouraging responses. I am younger than you, but I am not fresh out of high school either. 215? Are you from Philly? I am originally from south Jersey so I recognized the area code right away .

I start a&p in the fall and I have been pre-studying. I have heard of students getting their books early and studying the first few chapters to only find out that the teacher skipped those chapters. It is better to learn stuff you know will be in a&p 1 like tissues, bones, muscles and basics of the systems, but do not go into too much detail because you will find out what is really important to focus on in the class. I am happy this thread picked up so much. Hopefully other people that have felt this way will at some point read this and see going back to school at any age is ok . Now here is an update on me incase anyone is wondering. I talked to an adviser and found out my ADN program has 9 pre/coreqs and I already have 5 completed because of when I went to college before with a 3.6 gpa in those classes :). In the fall I will take a&p 1, statistics and the hesi. Then I can apply to the summer program. In the spring I will take a&p 2 and micro. As long as I maintain my gpa and score good on the hesi (above 90) I have a really good chance of getting in for the summer . I am so excited to start school again the end of August!

Biology isn't on the nursing catalog because it doesn't go toward your nursing degree. You just need to take it because the school requires it as a prereq to take a&p and microbiology. My CC in Jersey also had the same thing so luckily I already took it. I would call Edison and make sure anatomy will transfer as a&p 1, it has a lab so it has to be taken in person.

Do not rush through them, just focus on doing as good as you can on them so you won't have to retake them. Have you taken biology yet? At edison you need to take a biology class before you can take a&p or microbiology. And I didn't take the HESI yet because I didn't take a&p yet and that is on the test. There seem to be a lot of good study tips on the HESI section of this site from other people who have taken it. We have to take all sections of the hesi besides chemistry and physics.

Yea, that is how most ADN programs are. They only look at pre/coreq gpa and no other classes count. Edison's nursing program prereqs are a&p 1 and stats. The coreqs are a&p 2, microbiology, english comp 1, nutrition, general psychology, human growth and development, and a humanities elective on their list. I went to a prenursing information session and they said you should have 7 classes done before applying or your chances aren't good.

What classes did you take so far? I am kind of confused since you say a grade for a 1 credit class and none of the nursing prereqs are one credit. Admission really depends on how many points you get. It factors in prereq gpa, hesi, and amount of classes completed. The lowest points to get into Lee campus for the summer nursing this year was 85 (it is higher in the fall usually). Lee is the most competitive campus. You only have a few classes completed so you just need to get a few As and it will balance out. I have 5 classes completed so far (3.6 gpa) and in the fall I am taking a&p and stats, then I am applying. Feel free to private message me.
