  1. they have slips for pants, just like slips under a skirt. I bought some years ago for an unlined pair of wool pants I loved. you can buy them in beige ,white or black. too bad you can't wear colored pants. also tattoo makeup with powder over it, then spray it with "liquid bandage" lasts for a few days! ?
  2. started reading this post having no idea what is was about. OK, WOW! CONGRATS, sounds like everyone who posted has great strength and perseverance. good for you! keep up the good work, I hope anyone with bitterness can wash it away with time, good thoughts and maybe sunshine :) sending you all love!
  3. I too had this question on graduating, as I wanted to study more in depth on freq used meds, bcuz the more you know about something, the more confident you feel=less freaking out or emotional stress. no one ever really gave me any good answers, and during my 1st week my preceptor asked me to get something, I can't remember what, but it sounded like something else, I brought the something else and she really let me have it, she went overboard, but it is exactly the reason I should have been familiar with common med/surg meds. you should know the brand name & the med. people & the dispensing machine will use them interchangeably my med/surg most freq , if not daily are: IV= vancomycin, meropenem, Zosyn, cefepime , cefazolin , ceftriaxone , ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin , immunoglobulin IV push: dilaudid, morphine, lasix, ativan, pantoprazol, zofran, metoprolol, , hydralazine, and famotadine, and methylprednisolone also understand tylenol how much you may give in a day, etc, because you will see that almost daily.
  4. well you can make that kind of money in commissioned positions. my husband works in a field where their sales people get 30,000.00 in commission, often times it's only twice a year they make such a great commision, but even so, his sales people make a basepay that is outrageously high. my cousin also makes an embarrassing amount of money as a salesrep. Realtors in high end areas make a lot too, they also work hard, and the real estate business isn't so great these days
  5. to answer the original question: I bet it would have been so hard for me to pass the NCLEX if I had waited, because I may have forgotten a lot of stuff. for sure get you RN license, then work at other job, or nursing, or both :)
  6. maybe you could ask the nurse who did that "hey is there an instance when I should hold a med with no parameters, I like getting a few pointers from people who've been doing this awhile" you might get an answer like "Mrs Smith's been here two months, she ALWAYS falls out of bed, or off the toilet or her wheelchair, when she receives all her meds AND her BP falls below such and such, and she had dialysis, with 30 patients to keep an eye on, you'd be wise to keep an eye on that or call the Dr for parameters, I haven't had the time. Thanks for asking, you'r e a great nurse ? "
  7. met a girl in nursing school. friends ever since. I work in a hospital, she started in a Dr's office, then she transferred to their surgery center when she obtained her BSN. she is supposed to be 7:30 -3:30 PM, 5 days a week. in a nice clean sterile environment. she's usually out by 2:pm & the Docs try to not schedule anything on Fridays or only a few, so she's out sometimes by noon on a Friday, or doesn't even have to go in! still gets paid for 40 hours. me: I wipe butts, empty foleys rather than nag a tech, get coughed on all day, I've been thrown up on, had my face touched by poopy hands, or those poopy hands ran their fingers down the back of my head/hair. I've walked through pee and poo on the floor, and had to clean it or risk someone falling, had some horribly mean charge nurses or managers, and I've had people pull their IV's out squirting me with blood (cuz they were worried the tape would pull their arm hair if done slowly, even though I told them I have some wipes to dissolve the glue. ... ya aim for surgery, sounds much better
  8. https://www.ED.gov/accreditation for all school lookup https://ope.ED.gov/dapip/#/institution-profile/109396 for adventhealth
  9. I phone interviewed with a manager for a med/surg tele position at AdventHealth, she said we'd have onboarding classes etc and for Tele floor we'd take a Telemetry quiz. My last job the charge nurse was given the tele strips, she marked them & put them in the charts, I looked at them, but's its been years since I took a tele class. Plus the Cardiac Residents were all over that stuff, so it's not like I had to read and write interpretations. How hard is the Telemetry quiz/test at AdventHealth for new employees? I know that the difficulty of tests changes frequently, (like when too many people do not pass, they will make it easier) so if you have taken their test recently, I'd love to hear it.
  10. you can always get a loan for 5000.00 from a bank.
  11. I worked for a long time at HCA, I love bedside nursing, but when we started getting 6 or SEVEN very sick patients, plus that slow charting system, I gave 2.5 weeks notice and left. I dont care if I can't work at HCA again. Other hospitals will give you 5 pts and only 6 if someone call in sick, and everyone else has a much faster charting system. there are plenty of nursing jobs, just start applying elsewhere. someone will fall & really hurt themselves when you are overworked and it's your fault then ?
  12. What is a GAO website?
  13. What is a subsidized paycheck deduction? I am paying for Cobra right now as I left my Hospital job and I am considering travel nursing
  14. why do admissions take so long? Ive been used to hospital admits. family history, pt history, meds, and physical assessment
  15. I had the interview today for one of the hospice care centers . They told me the software was really slow (i asked) She said it takes more than an hour to key in an admission. It is salary , i might end up working an awful lot and never make overtime. of course i would end up working overtime if I'm doing my own admissions. They didn't let me talk to any nurses when I interviewed so I couldn't ask what they thought. I don't think I would like a home care visits. Those are 5 days a week minimum, and also salary . it sounds like rhis wouldnt be a good fit for me, which is unfortunate because I feel like Hospice Care is an important and rewarding job
  16. I am talking about an inpatient facility. I did apply and they called me back, I just left a voicemail that yes I'd still like an interview. But I do still worry about whether I would like it versus working in the hospital.
  17. My cousin is a tech at HCA, he said there are 21 beds in his unit and most of the time there is only one Tech . they do not have unit secretaries, & charge nurses do not take patients. They are supposed to roam around and help but they are often found in the break room doing absolutely nothing . one time he was pulled away to sit 4 a patient and the female Tech was crying when he came back. The nurses were insanely busy and short-staffed and could not help her , the nurses were upset and the tech was left to fend for 21 patients by herself. When the director was approached by the female Tech she was told what's the big deal we only took the other Tech away for half the shift... ... Of course that is 6 hours of trying to fend for yourself with patients and their families and different departments needing things Etc he said the nurses and techs are always crying or upset on his unit. He is looking for another career all together at this point
  18. Emptied a foley n forgot to clip it. So the floor was covered in urine the next time I went back in the room
  19. Yes i did it too. but luckily for me right before I went to the other job I went to PRN at my current job so I never ended up quitting my original job. No one was the wiser and I never told anyone about it
  20. By the way, A clinical ladder (just my thoughts) is stressful. You need to reach goals, teach in-service type stuff, & you'll get nagged to get extra certifications. If you thrive on that kind of thing that will work out. I for one feel like I know what I'm doing and I definitely get trained for anything extra and I don't want to be pushed to achieve levels 1 2 and 3 and that sort of thing. I give meds, clean trachs, wipe butts etc. Like plz Dont nag me to get extra stuff. Again just my nursing burnt out random thoughts
  21. I didnt mean to so much insult Lewisgale but more as to make my point about which one was better all around. Did you ever end up moving there and did you ever end up applying anywhere or are you taking a bit of time off?
  22. Working for Carilion it's like working at the International Space Station, the other two places would be like working in a coal mine. Carilion is 100% modern and they invest money in Technology like they have the best and expensive emr system Epic Etcetc
  23. You just ask your hr person. If they want to know why you were asking like are you planning on leaving. Just say no I just want to know the answer to that question in case anything were ever to happen like if my family had to move or something like that
