  1. Congratulations! It gives me hope for when I graduate at the end of the year :) Good Luck at your new job
  2. Wow that's a high BP in the hospital where I work we are immediately required to notify the nurse. The patient is very lucky that nothing happen to him/her and you are lucky that you only got screamed at by the nurse. Again in most places that would have gotten you written up.
  3. I haven't taken the exit exam but I have found that they help with the specialty exams.
  4. Good Luck! I've been there and personally I picked up on things that I didn't the first time and more things clicked for me.
  5. I had not thought about the psych drugs, I will add it to my list of ones to go over. Thank you everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.
  6. Thank you everyone! I plan to get PALS and ACLS before I start so hopefully that will help me :) I appreciate the feedback and I'm excited!
  7. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of doing their practicum in the ER? Was there any advice that you have???? I don't want to go in there and feel silly for not knowing anything or not knowing meds that I should (I know there's so much that I don't know and I know I'll have a million questions!). I'm not sure if I'd worded this correctly or asked my question right. Thank you in advance! And I appreciate any feedback or insight :)
  8. Hi, I will be starting my practicum in the ER shortly and I'm wondering what medications I should make sure that I know so I can have a small base to start out and not look like a deer in the headlights when asked questions. I also appreciate any information you can provide :) Thank you in advance!
  9. It would be hard to find a job (if one even exists) that would hire only do the summer months. I would suggest that if that is the only thing you want to do then focus on school and maybe take summer courses if you want something to do. Another option is to find somewhere that will hire you per diem which usually requires only 2-4 shifts a month with flexibility in scheduling and sometimes they even allow you to pick up more shifts if your availability opens up. This could give you some insight and time in the medical field and some extra money. :) Ultimately the decision is up to you and you know what is best for you.
  10. I know it is in a different field but when I had something like this happen to me when I worked in an office I would make sure that someone else would hear the conversation between me and the person who usually liked to cause problems. I.e. if a CNA or another employee is around when Nurse A asks for assistance just turn to the CNA and say "I'm going to help Nurse A for a second if you need me I'll be in room 1" or if you can't help her maybe walk to the nursing station and say to the secretary or someone "Nurse A needs assistance but I can't because I have an issue with patient XYZ at the moment, do you know of anyone available?". I don't know if this can help you but in my circumstance it was able to quickly show who was telling the truth and who wasn't.
  11. Hi Kelly_lpn! We are just getting ready to start on the 15th of this month so I don't have any experience with the program yet except for the initial information. According to the information I have received with the program it doesn't take any longer and it has a strong hybrid component to the program. I have all of my pre-requisites for the program done for when I start in Jan and should graduate in July 2014 with my ADN. I have also included the link to the courses that we take plus the pre-requisites. Curriculum | Brevard Community College Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions! :)
  12. Thank you so much! It makes more sense now and I will go to the BON website and get in contact with them when the time is necessary. :)
  13. Hi Everyone! I'm currently enrolled in a nursing program in FL for my ADN and once I graduate (and pass the NCLEX) I'm hoping to move to DC but it says that you have to apply for a license in that state by endorsement which I'm not sure what exactly that meanst? Can anyone explain this to me? Am I posting this in the wrong area? Thank you so much in advance!
  14. I would try and go online to the hospitals or places that interest you. Some of the hospitals in my area (south FL) will allow you to work as a PCT/CNA after your first semester of nursing school and it can be a way to get your foot in the door. Good Luck!
  15. I used the app AudioNote when I was in A&P and it worked great plus you can use it for notes if you wanted but I didn't use that feature.
  16. I'm sorry I was referring to the local college for my area; Brevard Community College. But that is great info that I didn't think of! Get as much free college coursework as possible!
  17. I would say focus and just go straight for the RN because if you go the route of the LPN then you have to work for at least two years before you can complete the bridge program at BCC.
  18. Yes it can as long as you have enough time to dedicate to studying for each class. I did both courses over the summer and was able to get A's in both. Good Luck!
  19. Congrats on your decision to get into a field that will truly make you happy! My only comment with the LVN to RN bridge is that some programs require you to work in your field as a LVN for a specific amount of time before you can apply to the bridge program so make sure you are aware of that info. Like I know for my local community college they require that you work in your field of licensure for at least 2 of the last 3 years. Good Luck! :)
  20. I sent you a request! Welcome to our group!
  21. Congrats on being accepted! If you want to check my page and Facebook we have made a group for us all to chat. :) I haven't purchased any of my books yet, I'm planning to wait until after orientation; which others are you reading?
  22. If you are able to, review the ATI Review Guide for ATI. You can rent it from several websites or others have said that they found it in the library. For me this was the best insight into the test and in my case was almost exactly the same material as my test when I took it 2 months ago. Good Luck!
  23. Keiser offers a 2 yr RN program and then you can bridge into the RN-BSN. I don't know about working full time especially for all the programs that I have researched because they want you to be in class 4-5 days a week, plus clinicals. I know that people are able to work full time and make it through a nursing program, I just say hats off to them because I don't know that I could do it! I hope you find your way and find a program that works for you!
  24. As the others have said, I used the ATI Guide and McGraw-Hill practice tests and scored in the high 80-90's in the 4 areas. You can rent them and it def saves some money. Good Luck!
  25. I would get the McGraw Hill 5 TEAS Practice Test book from Barnes and Noble and I would also recommend TEAS Review Manual, Version 5.0 by ATI which can also be found on barnes and noble's website and can be rented, I just looked for $20. If you only get one thing I would suggest the ATI guide hands down! It was exactly what was on the test and I scored well in the high 80's and 90's in the 4 areas. Good Luck!
