Yay! I got in!! From Alternate to finally being accepted!!
Stefone! I hope you get in! Just keep your fingers crossed and I will do mine for you =) Prettymica! That's exactly that route that I will be doing!! I figured it would be less competition from other applicants to do the bridge program. Does your school require you to have experience working as an LVN to be accepted into your bridge program? If yes, did you cut your hours to be at school? Or did you stay full-time and attended school?

I know, I know... but after how many years of waiting and countless rejections, can you blame me for double checking to see if I was really dreaming??? lol ANYWHO! I will hit the ground running on those and I gotta keep myself organized so that I don't miss a requirement... oh oh and TEAS V test! ahhhhh!! I hope I do well

Refusing to dissect in A&P or Microbiology?
As far as Micro, like everyone has said, they are way too small to dissect.... BUT I did have to swab... shall i say the inside where the sun don't shine... to see what type of bacteria lives there.. :***: ANYWAYS I see your point about your beliefs and that's fine. In my class, we had groups and we usually get to pick the "surgeon" in our group, the note taker, the assistant, etc. As long as everyone participates in a certain role. Of course there will be the surgeon who doesn't do a clean cut or one that is probably born to be a surgeon. That's why we take turns or just always use the same person since they do such a great job at it. Just let your group know about your beliefs as well as your teacher and i'm pretty sure everyone can work things out for you. But I will say this, like 2dogsandaguy had said, "...it's part of being the nurse." Although diagrams from books and pictures help from time to time, the dissections of animal parts do help you also for real time organs almost as close to what a human part may look like, but from a different perspective (cow's heart is super huge compared to the human). It's up to you if you want to participate or not altogether, but it is part of the A&P portion and it's up to the teacher to decide on how she/he will grade you based on the lab portion of their class. Just hope that your teacher will be lenient on your beliefs and work something out for you.

Need Teas 5 testing advice!
Hey tcl0045! Thanks for the advice! I will definitely grab the McGraw-Hill book! I personally don't have trouble with math, I just need to brush up on it as I may have forgotten some geometry formulas. I had recently took an Intermediate Algebra college course and got a B (was absent a few times). As far as reading comprehension, I would just need to brush up on identifying part of speech and maybe some vocab. I might as well start studying while i'm waiting =) Thanks again!

Need Teas 5 testing advice!
I haven't got a response from the school that I've applied to just yet. The other school that I want to apply for in the future has a multi-criteria point system. Part of that is the Teas 5 test score. I've calculated my GPA and if I get at least a Teas score of 80-89.99% and reading above 50th percentile, I will be able to apply for this school. Say I got a response from the school that I've applied to and got a rejection letter **knocks on wood** , I would like to do some hardcore studying from a Teas 5 study guide, book, etc., so that I can score super high. Is there any advice as far as studying habits? Was any of the books helpful? Any websites to study from? For those who already took the test, was it hard? easy? Anything like you've studied from the books? Thanks in advance! =)

AP1, any tips?
HAH! i wanted to correct myself... i meant "models" not "parts" just to clarify on what I was talking about.

AP1, any tips?
If possible, ask the teacher if there is a "free lab" where you can just go to lab and just study the anatomy parts and function, that way you cover the visual part of learning. Also those same parts are most likely going to be on the exam so at least you are more familiar with them once you get your exam. Another thing, if a question arises, you can always ask your teacher or the lab supervisor on anything. I stayed another 2 hours after class with my lab partner to study the anatomy part and of course some days where you can go over the physiology (preferably a room with a white board so you can write out things and explain it yourself). I've also bought flash cards from barnes and nobles. Hope this helps, I ended up getting an A =)

Lottery System...How does it work?
Yep! even if you turned in the Sac City App (multi-criteria) you get into a lottery based system. ARC is just lottery based... I just wished that it's true that your name gets put in more times each time you apply. Oh the frustration! So I also applied for SCC's LVN program too. I just want my foot in the door as a nurse. I've been a CNA for 3 years and I have a pretty good idea on handling the real deal. I did a pm shift and there were times where I had to work with 16 patients (before I complained to the union about short staffing) and 12 at the least. Sometimes double shift. So I basically..."got my hands dirty" in the health industry =) Good luck to you!!!

Lottery System...How does it work?
Soxgirl, I see your point as well. As I have explained on a previous post that I knew someone with some great grades and couldnt handle the real deal and vice versa. I believe the multi-criteria system sounds fair to be qualified to apply. You get points based on GPA, degrees, low income, as many times as you applied..etc. as long as you meet at least a certain number of points, you are considered qualified to apply.

Lottery System...How does it work?
Saysfaa, you make a good point in schools having a variety of systems. I've known someone who is excellent with grades, tests...basically smart with books BUT, when it comes to the work industry, she panicked, got stressed, and had a different outlook in the real world versus school. She now works as a medical assistant. She said it's a lot calmer and easier. I've tried telling her that she could chose a different dept. rather than where she was (LND) rather than choosing a different profession. She insisted and I didnt argue. Christina, that actually sounds fair with the point system. I think that is called the multi-criteria??

Lottery System...How does it work?
I just submitted my nursing application and my school does the lottery system. I forgot how many times I've applied to this program... 3? 4? I don't know, but I know more than twice. I've read their statistics and mentioned that people that are applying for the 7th time are part of the selection pool. I just thought that was ridiculous and I would thought that by then those people would be frustrated by the 5th application. I know I sure as hell would and I know for a fact I would be depressed losing hope. I've also opted to apply for the LVN program also and then later on go to the LVN-RN program. I'm also looking into other careers in the health industry, which I hate to do because I've always wanted to become a nurse but I don't want to wait til i'm 40 to get into the program (im 27). I just want to be a Nurse already. I've heard somewhere in one of my classes (medical dosage class) told me that your name goes in twice the second time around and so on to better your chances on getting in, but if you skip an application process, you are back to just one name. I don't know if that is the case now though. I really think my name is just buried with the other 1100+ applicants that are either in there for the incentive, really have the passion, have or don't have what it takes in the job industry or whatever reason it may be. Counselors are not sure how it really works and the Nursing dept. always point me to their website. Next time, I will go to their seminars and explain that it is not explained on their website and to fill me in. I don't know if i'm just wasting my time. I really don't want to opt for private institutions and pay $50+ grand and start my nursing job in debt. Does anyone know how your lottery system works at your school? Did you see a counselor? Nursing seminars?

What classes should I take?
I will tell you one thing, A&P II and Micro has a whole lot of material to be studying as it takes hours of memorization and understanding. I would recommend taking the A&P an micro courses before taking your nursing courses. That way, you will be familiar with it and shouldn't be as hard as you will go more in depth with A&P in your nursing courses. There will be more heavy material to be studying in the nursing courses as well, therefore, get your general ed. out of the way to alleviate some stress during your study hours IMO. Hope this helps :)
