  1. They randomly call you anytime of the day Mon-Fri. No, they don't set up a date and time to talk to you, but they will leave a voicemail if you don't answer your phone, so you better call back right away. KP Roseville is a safe neighborhood. Around Roseville is also safe and nice, so your family will have a good start in that area here in California. I just can't tell you how the hospital is cuz I haven't worked there.
  2. TBH with you, IDK about the video interview because I didn't have that during my pre-hire assessments. I only had 1 test assessment like 20 or 25 questions, I can't remember. I have another friend who asked me too about the video interview, and IDK about it. I assume that, that is how Kaiser does the pre-hire assessment now since some employers do that too like Adventist Health. The hiring process with Kaiser is lengthy, and competitive. Yes, you are supposed to hear from the Talent Acquisition Agent if you are hired, because they will discuss with you the rate, and they will tell you that a department manager from that unit will contact you. Mostly, the department manager will contact first, and then he/she will tell you that he/she will forward your acceptance of the employment to that Talent Acquisition Agent. Then the TAA will contact you, and start asking documents such as SSN and State ID for criminal background check, and so on. There are other ways to know about your job application for that position. One is to look at your KP career website account and go to your My Submission page. It'll say there the Job Submission Status such as Job Submission Complete, Eligibility Review in Progress, No Longer in Consideration for Position (you should receive an email of rejection), and so on. I also recommend to apply more positions because waiting for that 1 position might not give you a big chance to get in right away. As I've said, it is competitive to get in at Kaiser. Keep applying until they'll notice you. You can apply as many as you can. That's what I did.
  3. Yes. Applying to UC Davis, Sutter and other hospitals like Dignity Health can be an option to get hired even with 1 year RN experience. And you can work as Per Diem for us, while he works at a non-Kaiser hospital. Ahahaha. I can't say for other hospitals in Sac cuz I didn't get RN experience in Sac prior to getting hired at KP South Sac. But yes, at Kaiser, it's automatic time and half pay after 8 hours. For example, I work 0700-1530. If I'd stay over for another 4 hours (1500-1900), that's 1.5; if I'd stay another 4 hours (1900-2300), that's double pay. It works whatever shift you start. Also the shift differentials at Kaiser are the highest. If you work evening shift (1500-2330), your shift differential is $7.70/hour. If you work night shift (2300-0730), your shift differential is $12.50/hour. Imagine if you start your base rate at $70s-$80s. How much more if you work Per Diem? My friend who works full-time at UC Davis is also working Per Diem in our KP hospital and her starting hourly base rate is $107/hour. Hahaha. Plus she works NOC shift, so she gets $12.50/hour shift differential. Basically, her hourly rate is $119.50/hour. Hahahaha.
  4. So there's no problem with your experience because you have so much. You'll prolly be hired right away as an external applicant. Hahaha. Tell your husband to start applying when he reaches 1 year of RN experience while building more experience. Get all the certificates too, I mean all of them just to have the edge. Just prepare his resume. Create an account through the career website, upload all certificates. Subscribe to RN positions. I recommend KP South Sacramento if you can. Make sure the location says S. Sacramento, because if it doesn't, it's the other KP hospital that is old, but still okay, hahaha. I came from there. I transferred to South Sac. Each KP facility is hecka different. At Kaiser, it only takes a minimum of 20 hours/week to get benefited. You might be blown but yes, Kaiser offers you a minimum of 20 hours/week to get you benefited. Insanely good! Especially for couples who have children, good coverage without deductions every paycheck. Awesome! And you can put your Available days too if you wanna work extra. You can stay over too for OT if managers need more staff for the next shift. I have a co-worker who has these number of hours (20) now. She's the only one on our day shift in our unit so far. There are also 24 hours/week (too common for mommies and daddies), 32 hours/week (mine), and 36 hours/week. Commonly, a lot of nurses work 24 hours or 32 hours. 36 hours is too much, but they are commonly offered to new grads who are in the new grad residency program, but anybody can apply for that number of hours too if open. We also work 8 hours/shift. Some KP hospitals, their EDs and ICUs have 12-hour shifts. But in my KP hospital, we work 8-hour shifts. Let's say, I work 32 hours/week, I work 4 days/week. And the schedule is fixed.
  5. Hello there. Kaiser hires RNs with BSN degrees. That is their priority. It is only when you internally work at Kaiser as Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician (similar to CNA) or whatever non-nursing positions, then you have your ADN degree, that you can be absorbed for their new grad program. But as an external RN applicant, you must have your BSN degree. I can see that you specialize in ICU, and Kaiser is always hiring ICU positions internally especially in the Sacramento region (South Sac, Morse, Roseville). You might wanna look for the external career website. You have 10 months of experience, but I don't know if that would suffice. I've heard that you must have at least 1 year of RN experience before you can get hired. When I had my 1 year RN experience in the Med-Surg Stepdown Unit, I started applying at Kaiser. But it got me more than 40+ applications for the Med-Surg position all over California just to get in, and by the time my application was noticed by the Talent Acquisition Agent, I already have 2.5 years of RN experience. Kaiser is tough in terms of getting in as an external applicant, all because you have a lot of competitions. I also believe that they're the highest in terms of RN hourly pay rate. That is why. Their unions work really good here in NorCal. Prior to applying, I already knew a lot of friends who worked/still work at Kaiser. But to be honest, that didn't help me in getting hired. They always say, "you have to know someone inside to get hired." That's not my case, and I can't say for the others too. Kaiser has Talent Acquisition Agents. I don't know who they are. I've realized that when a department manager opens a position, that job position will be open for an internal bidding for 1 week (in our internal website). If no one applies for that position INTERNALLY (within the facility, surrounding facilities, region, and so on), then they will post it EXTERNALLY. Who handles external applicants? The talent acquisition agents or the recruiters. I don't know if they work mainly at the Oakland offices (headquarters) or if they're contracted by Kaiser. In short, you can't just keep in touch with a recruiter based on referrals, because these recruiters do evaluate each applicant's resumes extensively.
  6. Try contacting Dominican University of California at [email protected] Good luck.
  7. The disease process in ADN is more intense or comprehensive than the LVN program. LVN program can be finished in about 9-10 months. ADN program can be finished in a proper 2-year program with 4 semesters.
  8. You already mentioned that you have an offer for the ADN program. That means that you worked hard in fulfilling those pre-reqs. Imagine how many students want to get your spot just to be in the ADN program! It isn't easy. It's hecka competitive nowadays. Once you finish your ADN, you can always accomplish your BSN via online. So many online programs for ADN-BSN or RN-BSN. On the other hand, there's no harm to start on the LVN program as well. But let me tell you, it isn't also easy to get accepted into the ADN program from being an LVN, or LVN-BSN programs. I was an LVN, and I happened to work in the hospital because I started working there as a CNA. Guess what? I was limited with my nursing care as LVN. So I worked hard in accomplishing the LVN-BSN program to make sure I would become an RN.
  9. LVN is under the supervision of an RN. An RN can be a graduate from the ADN program (Associate's) or BSN program (Bachelor's). If your goal is to become an RN, then grab that opportunity to be in the ADN program. So many students want to get in. Of course, there will be pathophysiology about disease processes, and that's part of the program whether you delve into ADN or BSN. BSN has leadership and research courses. This has an advantage for some employers who only hire BSN grads, or they promote you just because of having it. Hospital setting wise... no hospital would hire LVNs. You either end up working in the skilled nursing facilities, nursing care homes, vaccination clinics or home health.
  10. Stay where you are for now. Ask questions from nurses who work at a SNF, or hospital before deciding to work in another environment. Ask them in person. I know someone who used to be LPN/LVN here in California at a home health agency. Once she passed NCLEX-RN, she stayed at home health because she's used to it. Do what's best for you, not what others think you should do.
  11. Gain more experience in your hospital like 2-3 years more and then decide.
  12. I am horrified by this nurse. How could you? The Board of Nursing needs to revoke his license. Good luck with that Mr. LPN.
  13. Not this time yet. Your time will come. Just keep applying.
  14. I'm sorry to know that you failed the 2nd part. I can't remember those tests anymore. I hope you can apply next time and be considered.
  15. I don't think that you have been demoted. You don't know that. It literally means that your job submission is complete and ready to be reviewed by the Talent Acquisition Agent or Recruiter. They will probably hire someone else if they don't call you after one month of submission. You will then receive an email that you are not considered. And in that status of that application, it'll say No Longer In Consideration. So as long as it says Job Submission Complete, you still have hope. But also, let me remind you that you are not the only person who applied for that position. There are a lot of people who want to get into Kaiser.
  16. Go to this link and scroll down to Qualifying Methods and look for method 3 equivalent education and/or experience. https://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/applicants/application_for_vocational_nurse_licensure_by_examination.shtml You should be able to see the requirements. You can apply through Breeze. The answers to all your questions are on the website. Good luck!
  17. Around March or April, Doctors Medical Center in Modesto will start opening job positions for the RN New Grad program. They do this twice a year: March-April application for July cohort, and October-November application for February cohort. They're a big hospital, imagine they have 4 ICU departments (SICU, CCU, CVICU, Neuro ICU), 1 PCU and quite a few Med-Surg departments (Tele, Ortho, Respi, Neuro Tele, Onco Tele, and so on). In Modesto alone, the city has 3 major hospitals: DMC, Memorial Medical Center or MMC (under Sutter Health), and Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center. You might wanna see MMC as well because Sutter has Clinical Nurse Resident (CNR) programs too. Modesto has also one sub-acute hospital, it's called Central Valley Specialty Hospital. Google them! In San Joaquin County: St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, Lodi Memorial Hospital in Lodi, Dameron Hospital in Stockton, Doctors Hospital of Manteca in Manteca, Sutter Tracy Community Hospital in Tracy. These have new grad programs too. I applied at UCD before as well and other hospitals in Sac or even the entire central valley. After working 2.5 years at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, now I'm working at Kaiser. Just apply and apply until you get it! Everywhere is hiring new grads due to the pandemic. Good luck on your application! You're gonna get this!
  18. I graduated in 2011. Some of my friends graduated between 2007-2013.
  19. Do not lose hope. Do not give up. You are not the only one who experiences this. Your reaction is as normal as we have experienced here in California, and some are still experiencing. It makes you so disheartened, sad and frustrated. We felt these emotions since we received our letter from the board here. So depressing. We didn't expect this at all since we arrived here in the U.S. It's tough because the pandemic adds another strife to this, but as I've said, seek solutions while fulfilling the requirement. Try to inquire as much schools as you can. Keep bugging the board to get what you need answered. It's okay to vent out here. I feel you. I'll pray for you.
  20. This is the first time that I hear someone is required 2 courses from Georgia. Now you feel the frustration that we have here in California as IENs, even more to those IENs who already have their Master's degree. All we did was to fulfill those requirements despite of having the BSN already or MSN, all because we want to stay here in our state. Yes, you can feel us now that it's difficult to inquire schools because we aren't regular students here doing pre-reqs and all. I can still remember those difficult days. I probably inquired all nursing schools in the entire California. Goodness. Until I found a school with the other IENs who have the same case as me. And even up to this day, a lot of IENs are still stuck to this requirement since 2010. It's frustrating that the board deems us temporary "ineligible" to take NCLEX-RN. But hey, hang in there. This will pass. Despite of how you think you are qualified or overqualified, if the board deems you ineligible for now because of the lacking requirement, you have to fulfill it. Same as we fulfilled the requirement here in California, and some are still seeking to fulfill it. Seek solutions while fulfilling the requirement. You might resolve this prior to completing the requirement. Good luck!
  21. Every Board of Nursing in every State/Territory has different ways to apply as an IEN. Each board has the authority to temporarily deny you for eligibility if they think you lack their requirement. It's up to the board now. You have to fight for it if it's already certified by WES that it's equivalent. Did the board accept the WES certification?
  22. Let me remind you that California is the strictest state to apply as an IEN regardless of whatever country you come from. You may need to read MORE threads here about California BRN. The BRN has been requiring IENs to retake 1 course, 2 courses, 3 courses or even the whole RN program. This thread is about those who applied in 2020. I know a few friends who applied last year and they aren't required to retake courses anymore. My good guess is because of the pandemic. California is in need of nurses.
  23. I reside in California. You may keep contacting the Board there to see if you can appeal one course that you already took. Here in California, the Board is allowing a physical appearance at their office window for urgent purposes; this was pre-COVID, I don't know now. I don't know about there in Georgia.
  24. What state or territory did you apply?
