  1. I too am working as a new grad on tele. It gets very busy with discharges and admissions. I think I get the most stressed with admissions. With time it gets better. I write down the meds at beginning of shift so I won't be looking them up every time, and take your full time of orientation.
  2. I agree, you should consider working night shift if you can, then transfer to L&D if thats where your interest is. I am a new grad on tele and 2nd guessed myself about working there at first. Glad i took the night shift, day shift seems so hectic, it seems like they're always trying to catch up. Night shift can still be busy but i feel like i still have time to learn and work on prioritizing.
  3. I had 3 by end of second week. Had to do a discharge and admission which was real stressful. I'm in my 4th week and still don't fully understand the entire process. It takes time, i get 12 weeks so hope il get it by then. What is cdu? and how long is your orientation? try talking to your preceptor about what you want to work on. Wether its getting a routine learned then focusing on discharges and admissions or vice versa.
  4. Thats great you received 6 months. I'm currently on orientation for 12 weeks, which is great too. I feel nervous and overwhelmed when going to work. Learning everything new and having such responsibility. Anybody have tips??
  5. Poor guy, those pants are so last year
  6. Yes, your on the naughty list, don't look so surprised.
  7. Since when has eating cookies, drinking hot coco and eggnog become a health concern???
  8. What do you mean I have to cut my sugar?
  9. Haven't you ever seen an elf before?
  10. You look like you've seen an elf
  11. I usually just write open, meaning im open to what they offer
  12. I get so fed up when i hear about nurses being nasty to newbies! It is so annoying, they were once newbies too and they should remember that. If they dont want to help then they should just stay quiet rather than being rude. I feel that nurses should all work as a team and help each other out in order to provide better and safer care to patients.
  13. Las Cruces, there are two hospitals that are hiring
  14. Wow you guys are really into this thanksgiving potluck
  15. I know of people starting out in ICU in las cruces.I think most got them because they have already worked there, know someone, or precepted there. So try to request for ICU if you can to increase your chances. Also depending on how many nurses are needed, if they are short staffed or not.
  16. Wow you guys are really into this potluck
  17. Lose weight, yea right, I wish, I gained weight from all the stress. I didn't have time to eat at times during school, clinicals, and work but then I would get home and stuff my face.
  18. Hang in there, it is normal to feel self doubt. I'm a new grad and still feel that way from time to time. Remind yourself why you got into this field. Don't think about what others will think of you, I know its hard, especially with certain instructors. Just ask questions and get yourself out there. Eventually it will get easier, i'm still in the process of getting there.
  19. Just remember to breathe, take deep breaths, pray, think positive and think to yourself you will pass. Listen to music that relaxes you on your way there. Don't review any material day of test. I remember my hand shaking as i was getting my fingerprint and palm print at test center. I walked to my locker, took a breather and told myself you will pass just relax. I prayed to god to help me stay calm. I did that when i started to lose focus and really helped. I also had some dark chocolate don't know if that truly helped or if it was more of a comfort lol.
  20. Maybe list your critical thinking skills, time management, medication administration, discharge planning and patient education, assessments and caring for patients using nursing process. Also if you have taken any dysrhythmia courses/training. I dont't think a cover letter is absolutley necessary but may increase your chances on landing a job.
  21. 1) No it does not mean you will get either more or less SATA questions, the second time i took mine i had fewer SATA. Questions will be random, you will not get the same questions again. I also had fewer math questions. You just never know what your going to get. 2) I don't think taking your time will affect your chances but you don't want to take too long either. Take the time to read the question and understand what it is asking you, as well as the answer choices. 3) The day before i was doubting myself if i was ready, but i think almost everyone feels that way. I had put in the time to prepare. I couldn't keep myself from not studying but didn't study much. I went over lab values and math calculations. I hung out with my family and went to the gym where i let out a lot of stress and anxiety. Always reassured myself that I can do it and prayed a lot. I too failed my first one and was scared i would fail again. Got it the second time and im sure you will too. You seem like your prepared. Good luck to you.
  22. How long has it been? Mine took about a week. Good luck to you.
  23. Go for your RN. I passed mine on my second try. I did about 3,000 + questions with saunders comprehensive review (CD) and if you have time read through some chapters, it may help, especially the area you feel you need more work on. I also took free classes they offer on kaplan, go to Pass the NCLEX Guaranteed or Your Money Back | Kaplan Nursing and attend a free event. Hope this helps, especially if you cannot afford taking courses like hurst or kaplan. I couldn't so i went with saunders which i checked out from my school library.
  24. I passed my nclex mid september and started applying to jobs online I was most interested in. It took a little over a month later when I landed my first interview and was offered a job. By the third week of no calls, I began to call HR asking about my status of my application, they told me they hadn't send it to the clinical managers and send them through. I got the names and numbers to clinical managers and called them. It took a few tries to get a hold of them and also left messages. I got a call 5 days after leaving a message and got my interview where I was offered a job. Hope this helps. :)
