  1. I've worked there many years ago. I moved to Kew and used to catch the tram. Easier than driving. Good luck with your new job.
  2. I understand your frustration, applying for jobs and not getting any interviews is soul destroying. I can only encourage you to keep trying.
  3. Australia does not have a nursing shortage and it is very competitive to get a job, many new graduates find it difficult to get a job. You need to get your experience up if you are going to apply for jobs in Australia.
  4. She worked one day a week at a nursing home and casual with a community nursing organization.
  5. Great idea to do this as a double degree, especially as you want to do M&CH. When its time to do M&C quals, try nd get sponsorship from a council to help pay for the postgrad study. To get out of the aged care sector, maybe contact hospital banks or a local private hospital or GP practice. Highly recommend Deakin, my daughter did double degree of nursing/psychology at Burwood and loved it.
  6. There is no cure, if it were my parent I would be treating them palliatively ie. No medications unless it's to make them comfortable.
  7. After 30 years of working as a nurse I work to pay the mortgage, eat, have a vacation and have a life. I don't give a brass razoo about politics or anything else. I work for money.
  8. I really feel for you, I can't think of anything that would make this situation better, and I'm sure it has impacted on your relationship with your mother. Perhaps taking time to catch up with RN's you have worked with over the years would help refresh your memories.
  9. The way to increase your chances of gaining a graduate position of your choice is to work in the health care sector as you go through uni. This can be as a nursing assistant in aged care or personal carer in community care or do a Cert III in Pathology and work for a pathology service. I'm sure you can think of many more.
  10. All degrees lead to registration. Study close to home, travelling is boring and expensive and living away from home really expensive!
  11. For Australia follow these links AHPRA - AHPRA Home
  12. Two friends of mine did, and loved the flexibility and the fact they could keep working. Just have to be motivated to complete that study!
  13. Actually I agree with all the posters. Any issues I had with patient's or family took place before security was implemented within hospitals. Issues with surgeon's I would now probably file reports, when I was younger I never felt I could do that, there was still a strong culture of tolerating their bad behaviour. Probably still is in some institutions! Jess112, It's great that you're interested in nursing and I would absolutely recommend nursing as a career! p.s. my daughter is a nurse too!
  14. I think because there are a lot of psych nurses that aren't trained as general nurses; they did 3 years of psych nursing.
  15. My daughter and I are both RN's and we both wear the same shoes - Ascent Avara; they are available from the athletes foot and we highly recommend them. Ascent Footwear - Avara
