Is it me, or am I being given unrealistic assignments in the NICU?
Also, with very poor feeders...I would suggest feeding every other feed...unless they are showing cues in order to give them some rest..they normally do better with this method in my experience

Is it me, or am I being given unrealistic assignments in the NICU?
Hi..this assignment is doable but definitely busy. If all of them were due at 0800..I would have started at 0730..did one at at 0730..the next at 0800..and the one after that at 830...starting with the fastest feeder..on my unit we don't have to have weights until midnight so I can time things so linen, baths, and weights can be done before then. If anything, the bath and linen can wait. With an assigment like this I def wouldn't have fed the babies longer than 30 mins and would have gavaged the rest of the feed. Hope that helps. It definitely takes practice...and the longer you are in the NICU the more you will feel comfortable with determining what is a priority and what can wait..

UMSON RN-to-BSN Fall 2016
It depends. What is your prequisite GPA? TEAS score? Do you currently work in healthcare? Do you do volunteer work? I would look í ½í±€ at the other post to compare stats. I had a previous bachelors when I applied. A really good TEAS score, and I had worked in healthcare doing research for 4 yrs before I applied. My GPA was also above a 3.5.

How often are your line changes?
Same here. " We change TPN and lipids every 24 hours. All other fluids we change every 96 hours. "

UMSON RN-to-BSN Fall 2016
Yes they are manageable. I plan my work schedule around test and assignments. I take two classes per semester. I'm hoping I won't have any scheduling issues with the public health class which requires 90 hrs of field work.

Nurse Residency @ Children's National Medical Center
Hey Erin, If you accept the job offer, please keep in touch. I currently work in the NICU at a hospital in MD, and I'm considering joining the NICU team at CNMC in about a year or so. Would love to hear of your experience as you become acclimated to the unit. BY THE WAY, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WORKING IN THE NICU!!! Congrats!!

What is the difference between call back and bonus pay?
Ok. Thanks I think I figured it out. Call Back you get paid time and half..and bonus you just get a lump sum and then time and half after you are have put in overtime.

What is the difference between call back and bonus pay?
I have been asking around but no one has been able to give me a clear answer. From my current understanding, I thought call back was when you were on call and you were called back.you get a certain amount of money while you on call and then you get paid time and a half when you do have to come in...however, how does that work when you know you need to come in because they are short?

Feel Like I'm Drowning
Hi NICUNURSE21, You are not alone. i'm a new graduate NICU nurse now too, and I have been off orientation for about 4 months now. Initially I was extremely confident in myself and my skills until maybe about a month ago I was pulled into my manager's office. My manager brought up many complaints from my colleagues and parents in regards to individuals feeling as if I didn't know quite what I was doing and why I was doing certain interventions. It was extremely disappointing to me only for the fact that no one had come to me with these complaints. I actually had the opposite experience on the floor, where several nurses were congratulating me for doing such a good job or thanking me for helping them. Since then I have started to second guess myself alot and it has caused me to make even more little errors I feel as I'm always worried about who may be talking behind my back. My best advice is to be confident in the skills that you were taught, ask questions and review the protocols when you are not familiar with something, and document document document to cover your tracks!!! Hope that helps. Prayer also works if you are spiritual at all. :)

Diaper Rash
Desitin or Greer's Goo for the cases where it is so bad it is bleeding. We also prop the baby's butt up and expose to air if it is really bad.

university of maryland RN - BSN
Hi @aimtrue...I'm sorry for the delay. I would agree with everything that sassybunny said; however, I find the RN-BSN program to be much tougher and I went to HCC. It is a whole lot of busy work to me, and I have been taken exclusively online classes too. It also may just seem harder, because I'm working as a nurse now and I had a 9-5 office job before where school work could get done if I really needed too. It is tough getting things done by midweek for the online modules depending on your work schedule. I also must say I hate group projects too as it is tough when you dealing with nurses with different schedules. I guess this is all a part of that learning to collaborate. @sassybunny...which class did you have to do a proctored head to toe assessment? I am taking Health Informatics next semester and an elective. I have only took one so far- Health Care and Culture. If you do not like writing papers, I wouldn't advise it. There are no exams, and 3 papers. One is a group project. This class requires a lot of going out in the community to interview individuals.

MBON to renew or not to renew
Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification. It must be something new. I just renewed my license in May for two years without having to do a background check. I passed my nclex July of last year and my birthday is in July.
-
MBON to renew or not to renew
It sounds like you have a temporary license.
-
MBON to renew or not to renew
I don't understand how they could have presented you with a license, and you didn't pass the background check process.
-
MBON to renew or not to renew
I know and they gave me year. Everyone else got 2 years. I graduated in 2014 and had to renew in 2015.

Please help!!!! Should I leave my first nursing job 2 weeks into orientation?
No, this doesn't sound like the norm. In the future, I would suggest you shadow before accepting a position and ask specific questions in regards to their orientation process. I would suggest you leave if you feel as if your license is in jeopardy. Most places transition you into a position esp if you are a new grad. I work in the NICU and I received a 4 month orientation, where I worked alongside my preceptor. The rest of the new grads in my new grad residency program received at least a 3 month orientation.

Howard community college Fall 2015 nursing
If you are on Facebook, I would suggest you join the Howard Community College Nursing Students FB group. Alot of these questions can be answered on there. I graduated in 2014. Tough but excellent program. As far as 240, I can only suggest that you stay on top of the material presented in the powerpoints and pay attention to the lectures. If you can record the lectures, anything they discuss in lecture and on the powerpoint is fair game. If you have trouble understanding any topic, I would then go back to the textbook as an additional resource. I felt like the HESI exam was alot tougher than the class exams. Maybe because alot of the material we didn't go over in class; however, I passed the class with a B.
