Whats the deal with all the crying?!?!....
When I was in my BSN program which I would not recommend to anyone, My tears came from anger. Anger do to the cheating that was going on under the instructors noses. I still think they knew who and when and they, still passed them. My satisfaction was being able to say I pass my board the first time. They took their several times. Yes Girls and Boys there is a word called WEEDING and schools do it very frequently:angryfire

Burnout
I have been in the medical field since I was fourteen as a Candy Stripper. Those were the good old days when you did not see the bad parts in nursing. Then I grew up to be a Nurses Aide, not so bad but you could still enjoy your patients and get some satisfaction. On and upper to the LPN. I truly miss those days, Nothing against RN's but they sat on their butts and we were the care givers. Now I'm an RN BSN wanting really badly to get my MSN so I can teach. I do adjunct with a two year college and actually found enjoyment again with nursing. The administrators of the hospitals are clueless unless they have been nurses and then they forget and get their heads above the water and leave us to drown. Sorry if I'm stepping on toes former nurses, but the truth shines through. I worked for a hospital for 17 years of my life and what did I get? NOTHING they did not know that I was gone for at least 6 months when they saw me on the street shopping. Now I work in a smaller community hospital and I swear there are microphones every where, or a lot of snitches. What is trust anymore??? My patient are my priority and I do the best I can with what I can. I love nursing, but I don't love what it has turned into. I love to sit and make my patients laugh, but don't get any over time doing it(sure) "We want the best for the patient, but make sure you get those charge stickers in so we get our money." I get tired of hearing it just like you all do. This is my 32nd year and I'm proud to have climbed the ladder, but I too also feel the burn of the fire to get out. Please fellow nurses keep up the good work and boltster each other with good thoughts:redbeathe

Atheist or Agnostic?
OK Let me put a scenario in front of you. A patient is dying and his family isn't there or he has none and it is 2 am in the morning, no chalpin around and this patient wants you to pray with them. Are you going to say I don't believe in God or pray. Maybe say "Wait a minute while I get someone else, don't die yet!!!!!" Have you seen a baby born or held it after it was born? I think you are too young to decide what you believe in right now. I believe the experience you will recieve in nursing will make you a believer. I'm not critizing you. You will find somethings are unexplainable and that is the way it is supposed to be. Maybe you need to reexamine where you started believing the way you do now.

Burned out Nurse or just need a change of environment
Calling all nurses who can help this burnt nurse to pheonix. I have been an RN for ten years and these were to be the happiest years of my life.7 years til retirement. As an LPN I could talk with my patients and spend time knowing I could make a difference the care. Don't get me wrong I love nursing and the field I'm in which is Peds. I don't mind taking care of adults and elderly, but when they mix a census on the same floor, that just AIN'T right for anyone. The hospital will tell you one story about closing a floor then the next week it is a different story. You walk through the halls and staff makes comments about how they hate it here but can't do anything to change because of the "good" money and and insurance they need. Stuck in a hard spot. They give us no way to vent except among our self and if Union is mentioned well don't even think about it. My questions is to travel or not. life is tooooo short to live unhappy. Imagine this in a the wonderful Midwest state of Illinois.:angryfire

toenail fungus..
I get out of the shower and use a cotton ball soaked with generic listerine and it has worked now waiting for the regrowth. I thought it was crazy but guess what. We always don't need a RX

NP w/no desire for RN?
Good Luck and God Bless I'm sticking with experience. It has got me through some tough time in codes and life experiences. Just make sure you have good Malpractice insurance.

NP w/no desire for RN?
I may be old fashion,BUT I don't want a green NP taking care of me as a Patient who has not had any experience. I have been a Nurse for 28 years 18 of which I was a LPN,10 as a RN. I have 2 years into a NP program and if I hadn't had my experience I would have a hard time.. Think about it do you just want someone who is book smart

What punishment should this nurse get?
They just be glad she was there to calm the patient. i have been in this for 28 years and I'm tired of nitpicking from the uppers. Yes someone should have gotten her up before the time, BUT as tired as we get and overworked it should be treated as a minor problem.SHE did not do this on purpose and that is better then sleeping at the desk in full view and everyone, which happens quite often!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feeling Betrayed and Cheated
I need to get this out. Our "hospital" just closed our floor which contains pediatrics. Most of the staff will be sent to a floor that has no feeling or caring as we do on Peds. There is about 2O of us and if someone hadn't gotten on the phone and told everyone we would all be not knowing what is going on. We feel betrayed and cheated. Just to be shoved off to a floor without discussions or caring what happened, no explaination at all. Talk about screwed we are there. Many of the girls can't quit because of the insurance. You mention Union and you get fired. Sooooooooo what can we do. They are moving Peds to a dark corner of the hospital and some of us will take care of the kids if any. Otherwise we will be put on a floor of very rude and nasty people. I gave this place 14 years of my life and several have given more. Stuck in Western Illinois because i have to have a job:angryfire

What was IV tubing made of before the invention of plastics?
Anyone remember the red rubber hoses they used for enemas. The metal bed pans that were dropped on the floor and sent everyone to the morgue because of the noise. We had one nurse and q noc she would drag out the pans wash them and clatter all over the place

What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?
We were with a 100 yr old woman when she died. The respers stopped and it took ten minutes for the heart to stop. She had lots of wrinkles that were soft and we could see her become younger and there was a rosy appearance in her cheeks. With the last beat gone you could see a mist raising upward to the ceiling. As it rose it disipated. The Black nurse's aide opened the window for the spirit to leave the room. Now when I have a death the window is then opened. There was 6 of us and we all thought we were crazy. We didn't talk for awhile.

Should BSNs be paid more?
My Senior year we had to do a change project. Mine because I'm a trouble maker I guess, was to get the hosptal to change the name tag so BSN's would be recognized. I was told NO the patient would want the person with the most education and do alot of comparing. Yes I'm a 4 year BSN only because our 2 year wasn't up and going. I would take a 2 year over a 4 year because they get more floor time. I have percepted two Interns and the 2 year got up and worked and the 4 year had to be pushed. Now those of you who are BSN and ADN don't get insulted. I'm not a basher just making a statement. I just got off a shift of 16 hours which were not voluntary, I was charge(no extra money) and didn't get my charts open because I didn't get a chance til 9am. So were have to fight for what we want and Bargaining Units are sounding better everyday.
