financial advice for pre nursing students
I agree that a community college is your best bet. As far as financial aid goes, my CC would only help if you were seeking a degree, regardless of the number of credit hours. Since I already had a degree and was only taking pre-requisites I got nothing. Maybe things will work out better at your CC.

how to deal with learning all the medical terms?
Focus on prefixes, roots, and suffixes. Then make your flash cards and practice, practice, practice.

Cheating classmates
I think I would have to say something to the instructor outside of class. These are people competing for a spot in the nursing program. Imagine how you would feel if one of the cheaters got a spot and you didn't! I would like to think that cheaters will weed themselves out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

A&P I
Khanacademy.com and http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/home_pages/crimando/jcHumanBiodyssey.htm My instructor used the Maricopa site pretty frequently.

ch. 9 muscle tissue
Khanacademy.com was a lifesaver for tropomyosin, actin, and all that. Also check youtube for some great demonstrative videos. You might have to weed through, but it really helps you with more difficult concepts.

What to take with A&P 1 and 2?
I took A&P 1, micro, stats, and lifespan last spring. Then A&P 2, nutrition, and govt in the summer. You can do anything you set your mind to!!!

Need some positive words!
I just start counting down the weeks and think about how I won't have to deal with it again once I finish. Oh, and how if I took the W I would have to go through the agony all over again. You are halfway there! Get er done!!!!!

DO I HAVE A CHANCE?
Sorry to say, but it really doesn't matter what anyone on this forum thinks about your chances. Every school has different admission standards and your chances are totally in their hands. Your GPA is fine, but if you don't feel comfortable with your TEAS results you should retake it. Look around for other places to take it to save money. The price on the ATI site was $100, but I went to a technical school and they only charged $40.

Older students getting jobs?
Age should not be on a job application. It isn't legal.

URGENT: Apply as transfer without pre-reqs
I agree that an advisor would be your best source of information. That being said, I can share my experience. My pre-reqs must be finished by the start of the BSN program. Yes, acceptance is conditional on completion. At least 2 of the 4 sciences must be complete by the application deadline. Your chances of acceptance depend on the school you want to attend. My best advice is to get the best grades you can, keep building your volunteer resume, and take a breath. Nursing school is going to be tough; don't burn out before you get there!

Took the TEAS V today
BTW, what schools are you applying to? Did you use the calculator after all?

Took the TEAS V today
Good job!

Is nursing for me?
Definitely take a look at your body mechanics!

I think I'm failing my Biology class =[
Wow. Really? A temper tantrum? C'mon. It seems that people are willing to help if they are given some information. How can you expect answers when you have not asked a question??? You can't reasonably expect someone to dive into your mind and figure out what you need.

Has anyone taken Physio in the Summer?
I, being the glutton for punishment that I am, took A&P 2 over 5 weeks last summer. It was horrible!!!!! I did well, but my head was spinning the entire time. Definitely be prepared to study at least 2 hours a day. Given a re-do, I would stick with the full semester for this course simply for the purpose of better retention.

Taking Microbio and Statistics at the same time?
Sure. Why not? Just be ready to work!

People in my program don't care!
Not really sure why you are letting this become YOUR problem. Personally, I appreciate someone making me look better when they slack off. If they don't want it, fine by me!

New to Nursing, Having trouble in Stats
I absolutely agree. Even if you are strong in math, stats is another animal. I would take the W, sign up for a "live" course next term and get very familiar with the location of the tutoring center, just in case. Nursing programs are extremely competitive, why risk the grade?

Results of first TEAS-V score
WARNING!!! It CAN go lower and the latest score is the one that gets accepted. You have do decide if the benefits outweigh the risks.
-
Yet another TEAS question
That isn't rude at all. It is TRUE. Everyone should be able to do basic math. The math on the TEAS was simple 3 and 4 digit addition and subtraction. Of course there was some algebra in there, but nothing crazy. I am not a math person AT ALL and I did just fine.

chosing the right path
Why 3 years worth of prereqs? That seems awfully long. As far as 5 years being too long, all I can say is that the end justifies the means. Not sure about hospitals' opinions on career college. As far as I know, and RN is and RN as long at you have passed the NCLEX. I would check on the school's accreditation though. How much will the CC shorten your path?

Need Advice - Continue RN or drop to LPN Program
First off, you need to really examine why you want to be a nurse and what you are willing to go through to graduate. For me, no amount of nastiness from a professor is going to run me off from fulfilling this dream. Second, think about the spot you are taking in this "highly competitive" program. Being accepted and then dropping out is like taking the last slice of pie at a picnic and then leaving it. Lots of us on these boards would give our right arm to get accepted into a program. If you get another opportunity, please don't throw it away.

I'm considering nursing, but I'm scared of "lateral violence"
One of the first things I heard on my journey to becoming a nurse is that "nurses eat their own". The thing is, I'm not there to work for the nurses. I'm there to care for patients. I spent 10 years in the military and ran from some real beasts and I will not allow anyone to rob me of my passion to do the best I can for those I am charged with caring for. If you are concerned, figure out now if you are willing and able to deal with ugliness that comes your way. One solution I've heard to be effective is home health or per diem. That way the ties to other nurses are limited.

Anyone waiting on Acceptance/Rejection Letter '2012
Can't stand the waiting game!!!!! I'm waiting for an invitation to interview and have terrible "mailbox anxiety". I think I checked email half a dozen times today. What's worse is that I'll get to play Waiting Game: The Sequel after the interviews!
