  1. Congrats to you too! If I may ask, are you a transfer student too, or will you be a high school graduate? I have completed a substantial amount of units but unfortunately the program is designed to be completed in 4 years, irregardless of individual progress prior to entering.
  2. My heart almost fell off my chest when I finally received my acceptance letter for Chaminade University of Honolulu's nursing program. With the competition for seats in nursing programs across our nation, I was overcome with a sense of relief, comfort, and a bit of accomplishment. Upon reading the letter, a few concerns came to mind. For other nursing students, and preferably current Chaminade nursing students: 1) Would it be wise to attend this program as it is NOT YET nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) but HAS BEEN approved by the Hawaii State Board of Nursing? The dean of the program stated in the letter that the school will have a visit this Fall 2012 and they are "actively seeking national accreditation". I am afraid that I will be screwed in I attend this expensive private university and it is not nationally accredited, as my future plans are to leave Hawaii and return to mainland US for working. 2) Chaminade's first graduating class will be in 2014. As a new program, it is hard to judge how well they produce their students, especially for the NCLEX. Since the school has not yet established a reputation, would that mean I should let go of this opportunity? The only stability in this decision is that I can begin the program without having to take prerequisites, because the program is designed with "co-requisites" incorporated with other courses. However, it seems as though there is a trade-off.... 3) (For Chaminade nursing students): How is your experience so far in this program? What are the pros and cons of this program? Thank you so much for your time to read and enlighten me. I hope to join the rest of the nursing workforce someday! I appreciate all the help.
  3. Hello everyone, I am new to AllNurses. I'm so grateful to find out about this website, especially during this difficult situation I'm in. It's causing a lot of stress and confusion. Before I get to my questions, I'll give a brief summary of my academic background. I am a high school graduate (class of 2011) with 31 semester units completed. I am currently taking 12 units this Fall so I will have 43 by the end of this year. I have most of my prerequisites (non-science) done (i.e. Sociology, Psychology, English, Nutrition, Speech, and Chemistry is in progress). I have to complete 17 more units to become an upperdivision student, as well as my science prereqs: Anatomy/Physiology 1&2 and Microbiology. I also have over 200 hours of community service (non healthcare related) in addition to a 5-month internship in the OR at a local community hospital. I currently have a 3.5 college GPA and am striving to raise that. I would like to transfer to a BSN program next Fall. With that in mind, I would like to turn to those of you who are more experienced to help answer my questions: 1) Am I eligible to apply to nursing programs for Fall 2012 even though my pre-requisites are not done at the time of application? If I can, then would my acceptance letter (if I get admitted) be conditional until I turn in my final grades? I will probably finish them by the end of Spring 2012 if I can get registered for the classes I need and pass them with high grades. 2) With my summary of my academic background, do I have a decent chance of getting into a BSN program? Most pre-nursing students I hear about have exceptionally higher grades and a much much better profile than myself... 3) What are some tips and suggestions you all can offer for my situation? Thank you so much for your guys' time and help! I truly appreciate it. I apologize in advance if any of the same/similar questions have been answered on this website. I am new and have not yet explored all the discussions due to studying for my chemistry class. Thank you again!
