Study buddy for straighterline a/p
I am currently taking A&P II with lab. You must have enrolled before excelsior came out with the "policy alert" that JustBeachyNurse alluded to in order to get approval. Also, approval is granted for a six month period. So, be sure that it is listed in the course approval section under "My Details" on the excelsior web site. If it is not, just send them an e-mail asking them to approve again. When I stated enrolled, you must have been officially enrolled in the excelsior nursing program before they came out with the new policy change. If you did, the new policy does not affect you.

Just finished my first semester. Ask me anything.
This may have been asked but are there older students in the program. Say, in their 50's?

Information Literacy
I have contacted excelsior regarding this policy and it only affects you if you enrolled in excelsior after Oct. 1, 2012.

Passed A&P 2! Now onto Transitions... any tips??
Wow, how did you complete the course in two weeks?
-
Straighterline Topic Grade Quizzes??
Go to the exam center, go to specific topic quiz and once the quiz pops up tap on the smaller font quiz heading just below the larger one above it. Ex. Topic 4 quiz. Tap on the same heading just below it but in a smaller font....hope that was not confusing.

Penn Fosters Info Literacy help :)
Just took information literacy. I took about a week to complete it. It can be done in a shorter time period and as it has been stated it is open book. Highly recommend Penn Foster. Very cost effective.

Will the classes that are not yet offered on the nursing pathway prerequisites (ie. microbiology, microbiology w/lab, and Biochemistry) be offered by SL? And if so, is there a time line?

So, what are your thoughts concerning those paramedics that do not have in-hospital experience?

New Excelsior Student Asking First Question
Hello, I can't answer your question but I noticed you are a paramedic. I am also a paramedic trying to find those with a similar background as mine to see if excelsior is worth it. Can you give us some of your background and why you chose excelsior? I have 21 years of experience as a medic with no in hospital experience and still undecided about going this route. Sorry I'm off your subject. Thanks!

Any paramedics with no in hospital experience attending excelsior?
Still trying to decide if I should continue on with excelsior. Any paramedics currently attending excelsior or who have graduated without in hospital experience? If you graduated and are working in a hospital now, how difficult was it to make the transition? I have 21 years of experience in the field, 18 of those years as a paramedic.

Straighterline A&P
Appreciate that, I'll get in touch with them.

Straighterline A&P
Romstead, appreciate the info. I am not yet enrolled but at the applied, prelim. Evaluation stage. Do you have to be enrolled, you think, to receive approval?
-
Straighterline A&P
Romstead, have you finished this course and does excelsior accept it as a letter grade or pass/fail? Do you have to have preapproval from excelsior before taking the class? Thanks!

Could you let us know what you find out from the Texas BON. Good luck with your decision. It appears I am coming closer to a decision about continuing on with excelsior due to all the great and positive threads on this site as well as the perseverance demonstrated by individuals going through the program. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks!

Help! Undecided about returning to excelsior
Hello everyone, I have been reading a lot of your posts with keen interest. I am a veteran paramedic (20+ years) 51 years old. I am currently working for a fire dept in the state of Texas. I initially started working for an ems system for the same city back in 89' and in 2000 we consolidated with the fire dept. I work mostly on a Rescue (ie. Ambulance), 24 hr shifts, with occasional moves to a fire apparatus. I have a lot of patient care experience in the field but none in a hospital environment. I am coming close to retirement but want to keep working and wish to obtain a nursing degree. I am not enrolled in excelsior but have submitted and applied for admission with evaluation of transcripts and have taken one of there exams (lifespan development) some years ago before life took over. I still need a&p 1 and 2, microbiology prereqs. In order to attend a Brick mortar school I would have to finish more prereq. Because they state that some of my classes are to old and have to be redone. Excelsior accepted those courses. Because of that I will not be eligible for a program Until fall of 2013. Also I would have to use vacation time to attend school because most firefighters will not do shift trades if they have to work on a rescue. Here is my dilemma. Should I go down the excelsior road or do the B and M route because of my lack of in hospital experience. I have read both sides of the opinions in your posts but I am still unsure. So please help out a fellow care taker. Love this site:heartbeat Thanks!
