Relocating to Arizona
Banner UMC Tucson Main campus has med surg spots open. I'm not sure about low census but it is usually far and few between in Med surg. I do know that they are actively recruiting nurses for the unit currently. I'll PM you the other info.

Relocating to Arizona
I work for Banner in Tucson. It's a large system, with many options for locations in the Phoenix area as well as two in Tucson. Honor health has a presence in Phoenix as well as N. AZ. I'm happy at Banner. Benefits are a little pricy but a great coverage network. If you have any ??'s PM me.

Banner New Grad Experience
You should get a call from a recruiter as the next step. I was just offered and accepted a position at Banner UMC (Tucson). I applied to west valley, east valley and tucson. My recruiter handled some Phx area hospitals and tucson as well. They'll ask your hospital preference as well as unit preferences. You may want to apply to Tucson as well, since they handle more than one area. Sometimes it results in a quicker response. I am about 5 hours from Tucson, so i did the initial phone interview with the recruiter, and then a second one with her as well. She does the hiring and recruiting. I had three choices of start dates. Once I finally got a call back (I'm a May 2018 grad) it went really smoothly and fast. I had an answer/offer the following day.

New Grad NICU Support Thread
I'm so glad someone kicked up this thread from the trenches ?! I start in the nicu in a few weeks! Level III I can't wait! Graduated in May and have worked in tele/ortho and Pediatric HH (Medically fragile). NICU was always my end goal so I'm beyond excited (slightly terrified too) to begin! Any wisdom appreciated!

Absolutely terrified
FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED!!! There are so many areas of nursing that don't involve being on the floor with multiple patients at a time. Home health, hospice, private duty, clinic, insurance companies. Find an aspect of nursing that you are more comfortable with. Not all nurses are meant to be on the floor. And, know you aren't alone. We all experience our own degree of terrified!

Does AZ always pay lower than states with unions?
Yep. Cost of living is definitely a factor. I don't blame you for wanting to get out of the grey gloom! Love Oregon but it's too rainy for me long term.

Arizona Opportunities
Not sure if you're considering outside of the Phx metro area, but if you love the outdoors and fishing, consider Lake Havasu City. Level III trauma center, and 45 miles of lake front plus the colorado river on either end. Hiking, biking, offroading, boating, fishing. And since it's "rural" 65000 people year round 100k ish during snowbird season/events BIG sign on bonuses

Lake Havasu City, AZ
I actually start there in July, but already moved over from NM right after graduation earlier this month. Everyone I've met is really friendly, the ER is being redone completely, and the nurses I've spoken with say they're workload is heavy during snowbird season, but not any heavier than I saw elsewhere in clinicals or my preceptorship. They have a new heart center, and are trying to make some good changes. Feel free to PM me.

Guidance and insight moving from AZ to OR with young family
I'm a new grad (soon to be) that has applied to Klamath Falls (Sky Lake Medical Center). We've spent a lot of time in the area. Sunny for Oregon, small town atmosphere, but still accessible. Cost of living is lower than the coastal cities, so that is a major bonus too!

Dell Children's Nurse Residency July 2018
I'm driving over from NM. Leaving tomorrow after class! Which session are you going to? Good luck!
-
Resume review, please?
Take off the References Available line. It's no longer considered necessary from what I've read. As a new grad, they'll automatically ask for letters, usually later in the process.
-
Resume Feedback PLEASE
I'm in the same resume boat at the moment, so i'm not much help probably. Just wanted to say that I jumped from photography (now stress-relief) to Nursing, and volunteered with NILMDTS too! Good luck!

42 Years Old - Is it too late to become a nurse?
My daughter is 13 and will be a high school freshman in the fall. She is also taking as many college classes as she can (dual and concurrent). She wants to graduate with an assoc. of science and enter nursing school as a HS senior. I'm currently a student (45) and will graduate next spring. Love this!

Anyone else a planner nerd?
I'm a new planner convert, and I absolutely ADORE my StraightANursingStudent (Etsy) planner. It was only $10 for the file and then I just printed it on heavyweight paper (light almost cardstock) and put it in a 3 ring binder. I was going to print it online but just never got around to it. Definitely worth it, and it's cute, and has lots of nursing blurb info in it. Places for non school activities and list making.

Quitting Nursing School
I can't tell you whether to stay, or quit, but i will say that there are SO MANY avenues in Nursing that do not involve direct patient care. You could fall into one of those career paths. Insurance companies, education, telenursing etc. I'd take a look at some of those "non patient care" avenues before jumping ship.

Planners
I bought the StraightANursingStudent. com planner on Etsy and am having it printed/bound. Love the way it's laid out, and it has really great nursing student reviews.

Failed Nursing School
You're 22 years old. I'm lost as to why you are giving up on a career in Nursing so quickly. I'm 44. I had to drop out of a private program in FL and move to NM due to a family medical emergency. I would have graduated in a week. However, I am restarting essentially in an ADN program in the fall, and will have enough credits to finish my BSN in 2 semesters, possibly less when I'm finished with the ADN. I have 5 children, 2 in college (one pre nursing), a husband diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and an hour commute to school. If I can do this, SO CAN YOU!! There are a lot of great options out there. Find the one that fits you best! Good luck! Never give up on yourself OR your dreams!
- Applying to WNMU for fall. Any other schools in state w/ same pre reqs?
