Why did I think you were talking about converse shoes?? LOL haven't had my coffee yet...
  2. Hi everyone! Just looking for advice and also to vent. I recently changed from adults to picu after a year experience. I feel like none of my coworkers trust me with the type of assignments I'm getting. I usually get pairs and sometimes a stable intu...
  3. I don't think they trust me at work

Thanks for the advice everyone! I definitely don't want the sickest kids on the unit and also know I learn a lot from the more "stable" kids. I hope that I'm at where a person of my experience should be at. My unit has a culture of senior nurses vs. ...
  4. I don't think they trust me at work

Yes and I'm trying to not worry about others or compare myself, knowing that everyone is different. I think my problem is that I have been there for 4 months and been off orientation for 2 but I have not recieved feedback after orientation so I'm not...
  5. Near miss

I just transitioned to a peds cvicu from an adult cardiac step down. On my first shift (with a preceptor), I went to switch out a syringe for one of the medications that was running out. I accidentally grabbed the wrong syringe. As I was programming ...
  6. I started off on an adult tele stepdown with no intent on going into any other field. The only problem was that my family needed me to move closer to them so I began applying to hospitals in that area. I applied to the peds CVICU at a well known hosp...
  7. CSU as a freshman or Community college

I went to a CC first and transferred to a CSU once I got into the program. Like the previous poster said, it saved me a ton of money & I received a great education. I always tell people to go this route. Good luck!
  8. 5 Weird Questions Patients Have Asked As An OB Nurse

"Are you going to become a doctor next?"
  9. When I was fresh off of orientation, the latest I stayed was 21:30... That shift was insane. Most days I get off within 15 min after my shift ends. I usually always make it on time unless something crazy happens right before shift change.
  10. Last night I received an admit on heparin & amio drips. He had an IV on the right hand & AC. Blood draws couldn't be done on the left because he had a fistula. When the phlebotomist came to draw blood, she informed me that she couldn't draw h...
  11. Phlebotomy refusing to draw

Thanks for the responses! I'm only 9 months in and still am trying to make sense of things. I sent an email to my manager to see what the actual policy is regarding this and to see what other options may be. In the past when I've stopped any infusion...
  12. Phlebotomy refusing to draw

Thank you! This definitely makes sense but is still frustrating as this pt has only 1 extremeity to use.
  13. Hi! I graduated from SFSU in 2015. We had clinicals in the east bay, SF, and the peninsula depending on the semester. I know SFSU has since revised their program, but we were allowed to choose which clinical site we wanted depending on our class regi...
  14. Feeling VERY Incompetent

When I first started out 9 months ago, I felt very incompetent. I was so nauseous on my 1st day of being on the floor! But I learned how to adapt. It took some time, but I learned. I had a great preceptor who showed me the ropes. All nursing school ...
  15. When your dnr pt is on a morphine and amio drip 😩😩😩😩
  16. I learned that just because a patient is a nurse does not mean they will be nice and understanding when the team refuses to order IV Benadryl. Being a new grad has been one of the toughest things I've ever done
  17. Ucsf commute + parking

Also there is an app called spothero which gives you a discount to park in the garage next to starbucks and medical plaza. I believe the app allows you to the cut the rate in half which makes a huge difference.
  18. Ucsf commute + parking

You can find all day street parking but you have to get there early and pay attention to the signs. Your best bet would be to park in the outer sunset and maybe even take an uber from there.
  19. Current CNA Pay Range

When I worked as a cna in the bay area, California, I started at $11/hr in an assisted living facility. When I got hired in the hospital, I started at $22/hr!
  20. Nursing student asks nurses the question..

I'm a new grad and had 2 nursing students follow me today. It was tough trying to explain things to them. I felt bad that I couldn't go into depth like I wanted because I know how it feels but I was sooooo busy. It was ridiculous! I try to be as help...
  21. Some new grad programs will ask for your transcript. I would try to maintain a gpa above a 3.0. I had a few C's and still landed a job at a great hospital that did ask for my transcript. It really depends on how you interview as well.
  22. You can directly report her to the state. In California, the cna would be reported to the department of health. Sorry this is happening to you OP. Good luck!
  23. Children's Hospital Oakland

Does anyone have any experience in getting hired at CHO? How long does it usually take for them to call you for an interview? I applied in October for a PICU position and it seems that my application's status has been changed to being actively review...
  24. The film: Vaxxed.

Because if a child who is not vaccinated and contracts chicken pox goes around children that are too young to be vaccinated, they can cause them to get sick. Young babies are especially at risk.
  25. students charting Assessments

I think in most places with computer charting, CNAs don't even have the option of charting things outside of their scope.
