  1. The CNA's in my hospital go by the job title, PCT. They are trained to do blood glucose checks, bladder scans and in the Emergency Room they sometimes insert foley catheters and do EKG's. The title and scope varies state to state, and sometimes even hospital to hospital. I don't think any of the hospitals in my area hire anyone under 18 for PCT positions, though.
  2. Congratulations on landing a new CNA job, that is so exciting. I will be totally honest with you, I was nervous for my first 6 months on the job when I was a CNA. It's new territory and new skills you've just learned, and just learning to maneuver around patients can be new and awkward. It sounds like you have good intentions and as long as you go in with a great attitude and a willingness to continue to learn, you'll do wonderful. If you don't understand something or need help with something, ask your nurses! That's what we are there for and 10/10 times I would rather stop what I am doing to help you learn, than you do something you are not comfortable with and potentially hurt the patient. Deep breaths, girl. You will rock it.
  3. Congratulations on your acceptance in to the program. The curriculum does move quickly, but its prepares you well for second semester. (And 3rd and 4th if you decide to continue on.) They prepare you well for NCLEX and for a real-life nursing career. Best of luck!
  4. I just graduated from the program in May. I was on the waitlist for 3 semesters. Worth it! It's a great, thorough program that prepared me well for the NCLEX and for real life Nursing.
  5. I think I would appeal as well. Know going in that you may not get the outcome you are hoping for.. but it's worth a shot. That's incredibly frustrating, I am sorry!
  6. I know, Hunter green! I wear that color as a PCT at the hospital I work at so I was really hoping it would be a different color haha. I hate the idea of spending $600 on books, but I think its inevitable in this case because of the "codes". Things could change, but I have a friend in the evening cohort who says you guys are in class 3x a week for the first few weeks, then drop to 2 evenings to add a weekend clinical day. He just finished 1st block and said it was challenging, but not impossible. Excited to keep in touch and see how everything goes! I just wish I knew which clinical day Day cohort will be assigned. I am antsy and have already put in my work schedule for next month so I hope it all works out okay! See you guys Monday evening for orientation!
  7. THe bookstore has our scrubs or you can get them from Apparel Pro in Tempe. They have our dress code list. You can wear any plain Hunter Green scrubs with the school embroidery on it.
  8. I purchased mine from Apparel Pro in Tempe. They have our approved scrub list and will embroider your tops for $5 each.
  9. Do you guys know anything about our clinical rotations? I know they are supposed to be assigned on the night of orientation, but does anyone have any idea what they base our assignments off of? Are they by distance from our homes? Do we get to select our days? Random selection?
  10. Thanks, that is great to know. They didn't give me that information when I went in. I also wasn't aware we had to upload to my clinical exchange. I have everything on Castle Branch but didn't hear anything about uploading to The Clinical Exchange site.
  11. Woohoo! Me too!
  12. I purchased scrubs but have not bought my books from the book store yet. I was hoping to buy them used but the bookstore wouldn't give me a book list. They said we need to buy the new book package from them because there are codes inside that the used books may not have. That is a bummer! Are you in the day or evening cohort?
  13. So, I went up to the school to see if I could get a copy of the book list because I wanted to see if I can get the books used some where for cheaper and they gave me such a hard time. They said the only way to get the codes we need for our class is to buy the brand new book package through their book store and wouldn't give me a list of the books in the package. Anyone from past cohorts have anything different to report? I'll spend the $616 if I need to, but I really would prefer to get them used if possible.
  14. Hi! I have a friend who graduated from EVIT's LPN program this past year and she said while the school was fine, she didn't feel like it prepared her well for real world nursing. She also had lots of issues with the billing department and they withheld her diploma until her entire student loan was paid off. Have you already taken the TEAS test through EVIT for entrance to their program? You are right about the Gateway waitlist, though. I waited for 1.5 years to get accepted. It's a lengthy wait right now- but also only requires a CNA license and a passing HESI test score. Best of luck in which ever route you choose!!
  15. Thank you for your reply! I actually had an attachment in my emails with the schedule that I wasn't able to see from my Mac. I work night shift so I am just hoping I can get my schedules to mesh well. It looks like the first few weeks are fairly intense with 1 class and 2 lab days for day cohort. Congrats on finishing up 3rd semester! Such an accomplishment!
