Saw an angry clinical instructor...
I would also check your hospital for harassment (bully) policies. Every hospital, school of nursing should have one. Policies have clear lines on what to do and protection for the one reporting. We should advocate for these policies. As mortizny says no one deserves to be bullied. Well done Bortaz, RN

I agree with NewYorkerGirl to some degree. What about some posts that are still useful that are timeless. Such as many from Daytonite.

Thanks for the comments. We do not use chlorhexidine just soap and water. I know they do for adults and wanted to know if anyone used on neonates,

New grad in ICU, feeling discouraged. Advice?
First stop the negative thinking about yourself. 17 shifts! Not many at all. Not even a month. It is normal to feel this way. We all have days we love or wish to forget no matter how many years we have. It takes time to learn the ropes.

Hello Any one using sage chlorhexidine bath wipes on neonates?

"Two-yearitis"
I saw this trend many years ago. I learn something new every day whether its reading, classes or talking with other nurses/physicians. How can you not? I have always wondered why they are in a rush to do it all so new. Two years is pretty new to me. You need time to learn, time to obtain wisdom and time to build inner strength for all the stresses of the job.

Standard concentrations and frequency of infusate changes
How right you are about pharmacy prepared infusions verses made in critical care. Reduce risk of contamination especially if the pharmacy complies with chapter 797. Not to mention all the interruptions the critical care nurse experiences. Our manager has a membership in INS. We follow the line changes noted in the CDC guidelines. We do not practise re-sites. We now use much more picc's plus cvl's.

Standard concentrations and frequency of infusate changes
Hello Jan 1. We prepare the first syringes when the patient is admitted. Next day pharmacy prepares all syringes and bags. 2. We change the bag or syringe every 24 hours unless it has a special time limit. 3. We have standard concentrations for our patients. Pharmacy is refining each year. We use the same size syringe for all infusions to match the concentrations. We use prepared bags e.g. dopamine but it all depends on their weights. 4. Never decant 5. Heparin in all lines. 6. Yes to dextrose. Sometimes saline/heparin with cvp 7. all pressure lines on syringe pumps 8. all flush solutions changed every 24 hours. I totally understand changing vasoactives daily when it is a syringe verses a bag. I double pump or I set up another pump and line and switch out close to the patient.

Inotrope policy
hello I have the same question also. I also want to know what staff do for air in line when switching to bags.

I feel truly sorry for new grads
When I was entering Nursing school in the 70"s I was told good luck in finding a job. I graduated. Many friends went to the States for jobs. They moved to find jobs. I kept had it and found a job at home. Year later found another job which I wanted and have been at this job greater than 35 years. Yes, the job market is unpredictable. It has always been and will forever. I guess this topic will repeat itself through the ages.
