  1. Daisy4RN, You're so right. Seems like only mistakes are acknowledge by admin.
  2. Hey, Just google Geriatric Nurse-BC. You have to take a certification exam.
  3. Ladies, been there! As an associate RN, I got NO CALLBACKS. I applied multiple times to the health systems here in NYC and Westchester. Job postings that said "new grads welcome" or those where I met the minimum requirements. Rejection after rejection. So, after 6 months I started as an RN in private duty nursing. And signed up for a BSN program. Now that I've finished the BSN program and considered tristate hospitals..things are looking up. NYC is just a tough market. I've had friends who were lucky and somehow got a callback but there's a lot of us that don't get our start in the hospital. It's better to get experience somewhere as an RN..homecare, school nursing, outpatient than sitting at home broke. Finish your BSN, support yourself financially and be open to commuting 30minn-1hr out for a position in acute care.
  4. You're welcome. I found out about the job fair through nursing magazines mailed to my home...like Advance, Nurse.com. You should also apply to Indeed to get a daily list of all RN jobs available.
  5. From my experience, the new grad experience hasn't changed. I have two years of experience as a RN in home healthcare and have a BSN-Summa Cum Laude. I applied to hospitals and I'm still getting rejected. It's ridiculous. I suggest you work in ATL for a year in a hospital to really stand out as candidate. Working as a tech is good. But if you're not staying in ATL I don't think it will help you in NYC. Usually you work as a tech then ask for a RN position at the hospital once you graduate. As a student nurse, try to get into an externship a during the summer.
  6. Hi Ashley, Congrats! Good luck on the NCLEX. You should try looking on LinkedIn. There's a ton of nurse recruiters on there. You may have to upgrade you LinkedIn membership in order to PM nurse recruiters. Also, make your PM short and sweet. It's hard getting replies back. There's a job fair on June 13th in NYC hosted by Nurse.com. Look into that.
  7. I wish I qualified for the HSS Residency Program! But the residency program as to be your first job as an RN (womp, womp). Good luck. Hope you guys get a call back.
  8. Hi CCRNLola, Thanks for the information. I called the Human Resources dept. to check on the status of my application. She asked if they called me for an interview. I said "No". Then she said "if they are interested they will call me." Soo...don't know what to say to move the conversation forward. Recently, I found a nurse recruiter via Linkedin and wrote her a message. Hopefully, she writes me back. So tough getting a job in NYC.
  9. Hey LNRN15, I don't know the answer to your question. But I also applied to WMC and would like to know what position you applied for. Two weeks ago, I applied for a position titled "New Grads- Registered Nurses". My application status hasn't changed on the site. What has your experience been with WMC as far as applying?
  10. Hey, I completely agree with everything Tree5981 stated. I'm also a student at Capella University's RN-BSN program. I've completed two quarters thus far. I'm pretty much at the cultural competence portion of the curriculum. Personally, I enjoy it. I like learning about cultures so these assignments just give me the opportunity to research it more. Taking two classes is a lot so I wouldn't suggest any more than that. 2 classes is considered full time. From those enrolled in the RN-BSN program, can you provide any feedback on BSN 4004 Policy and Ethics and the 4012 Leadership course? Thanks!
  11. hey INN_777: I applied for the Feb 2015 too. The generic e-mail said November they would contact people if they were interested.
  12. Hey I'm looking into Preferred HomeCare. I'm a fairly new graduate currently working with a Homecare agency. Do they offer private duty cases or several visits like VNS?? I want to learn how to work with vent pts. But I am hesitant b/c I know I need adequate training. Any my updates from those working at Perferred?
  13. Hello everyone: I've been applying for RN jobs at White Plains Hospital since February and all of my applications have been rejected. The minimum education level is an AAS. I am now enrolled in a BSN program and tried applying again over the last 2 months and still- rejected. I have externship experience but apparently they are not impressed. Has anyone been hired by White Plains Hospital over the past 5 months? Any nurses have information of White Plains Hospital?
  14. I applied for med-surg and maternity.
  15. No, I haven't heard anything back from Stamford Hospital. Did you notice that they separated the externship into different units? Med-surg, maternity, ICU.
  16. As a new grad, being promised a job is AWESOME. But at least, they should pay those that intern at their hospital. It's experience to put down on your resume and you're getting paid.
  17. Kelly2008, I'm glad you started this thread. About a month ago, I started receiving e-mails from Monster.com about Trinitas nurse residency program. I live in NYC and it's two hours away by public transportation. Things are pretty tough job wise for new grads in NYC but Trinitas requires too much up front for their program (malpractice insurance, drug test, physical and almost $700). Geez! AND you don't get paid. Thats nuts! Personally, its just too much for me to consider. This is the first residency program I heard of that YOU have to pay them. Did you decide to apply? What happened?
  18. Hey eamjao: Thanks for asking. I've been trying to stay positive and busy. I'm currently enrolled in a BSN program. Still applying to positions.
  19. Sweetlilove: Congrats! I understand the fear of losing something you have worked so hard for. I graduated from the program recently. General Note: Welcome to the world of nursing, get ready to study until you physically feel sick. Fundamentals: you should get Fundamental Success (no need to buy it, there will be plenty of copies at the school library). It's a series and they have one for every course (i.e med-surg, pediatrics, maternity). The style of those questions really get you prepared for the exams. Make sure you read through the rationales when reviewing your answers. In nursing, its good that you know the answer but you have to know why you're choosing it. That knowledge will help you answer other questions even if you don't remember the material. Math Dosage: They change the professors from time to time. If you're worried about the math then I'd review at least a month in advance. At least you won't be as confused when you start the class. As someone mentioned above, Saunders is a GREAT resource and its definitely one of the few supplemental books that you should spend your money on. Medical-surgical: I personally didn't find the exams extremely hard. Medical-surgical Success + Saunders really prepared me well. Depending on the instructor you get, clinical can be…challenging. (HA!) Don't let it break you. Remember how hard you worked to get into nursing school and just roll with the punches. Once you get passed med-surg I, it's fine. The exams will be A LOT harder but the instructors are supportive- be ready to really buckle down.
  20. I LOVED this story! I'm extremely happy for you. I pray you have a long nursing career and fulfill all you set to accomplish.
  21. True, NY_teach. I am also a new ADN grad. I just recently enrolled in an BSN program this May. But I've been applying for 5 months in the city (where I knew my chances were slim) and in Westchester (best bet for ADN grads) and I haven't heard anything back. I read a post about 2 months ago where an ADN grad was hired at a HHC hospital (city hospital). It's possible but it's going to take a while. I'm excited to see what opportunities open up now that I'm enrolled in a BSN program.
  22. Darn! I missed this post. Thanks for the information. I'll save it and look out for the next start date.
  23. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm encouraged by your strength and perseverance. May God bless you with good health & success in your future endeavors.
  24. I just applied to Capella University. I saw a couple of people applying to the schools listed above but I decided to try Capella b/c they provided a lot of information on financial aid options which is big for me and they're pretty known as far as online schools are concerned. But I must say the tuition listed above looks great!
  25. Hey, I'm looking around at schools to complete my undergraduate degree and came across CUNY's SPS RN-BSN program. I'm still looking for work so I'm looking for the cheapest accredited program before I make a decision (I'm not into tons of loans with my name on it). I haven't looked into the program in much detail but I attended CUNY before I was accepted into an RN program so I know the tuition is doable. Does anyone have any experience with the CUNY SPS RN-BSN program? Any valid input will be appreciated. Thanks!
