Any other WSU College of Nursing Applicants for Fall 2011 out there?
I don't remember WSU ever having "well rounded students" in the entry criteria. Getting an interview here is ALL about the GPA. You're grades are not the problem or you would not have gotten the interview in the first place. The interview process is used to weed out people who lack the "right" personality to be a nurse, people who don't really want to be a nurse, people who can't carry on a conversation with others, people who don't dress/act professionally, etc. There are many "non-traditional" students attending WSU CON. You not getting accepted has absolutely nothing to do with that. Don't give up if nursing is your dream, but you probably could work on that attitude. Based on your post, you sound arrogant and as if you think you are entitled to a spot. If I were you, I'd think really hard about your interview and how you presented yourself and see if there is something you could have done differently. You might even ask the people who interviewed you if there is something you could have done better.

Pediatrics patient and their family
Maybe if you start by asking the parents what the impact has been on the family, something they tell you will inspire your creativity. Perhaps they can even provide you with photographs & you could make a photo collage or something.

compliance with hand hygien
You're protecting yourself, as well as patients, when employing proper hand hygiene. why on earth wouldn't people want to do that? anyway, I think what the other posters have said about having hand gel readily available and a consistent educational focus/policy helps a great deal. Hospital visitors really appreciate the hand gel dispensers we have located on just about every wall too.

I can't believe this! This is crazy!
I agree! I think he should report this too. It's inappropriate, unprofessional and a HIPPPA violation as has been stated. Whatever her consequences are for this, it's not his problem. The fact that she persisted even after he told her he wasn't interested, indicates she has a serious problem. I hope he reports her.

How to NOT gain weight in Nursing School??
I keep track of every calorie I eat in a Iphone app and exercise 5 days a week. I will get up at 0400 & get the workout in before I start the day just to make sure it happens. If I wait until later, I'm too tired or too busy. Always bring your own healthy food for meals & snacks. Eat lots of raw veggies & fruits & lean protein. If you feel you need to munch while studying, make sure its something like apple slices, raw carrots, etc. There is no reason to gain weight in nursing school. And just say no to the sweets that seem to be everywhere. I just tell myself they are poisen & poisen is bad for me. Also, it helps me to think that part of a nurse's job should be setting a good example for our patients as many of them have weight related health problems.

Thinking of quitting nursing program...
What I get from reading your post is that you are indeed an intelligent person and are very capable of getting probably better grades than you're even getting now. I believe you can do anything you want and be anything you want. Therein lies the problem, I think, in this case. The problem is you are doing what others want you to do rather than following your heart and nurturing your passion. You probably don't understand nutrition because your heart is just not in it. I truly believe a person can never be fulfilled and happy in trying to live others' dreams. Find your passion and live your own life. Its ok if it takes a while to figure out what that is, but in the meantime, do whatever you want to do, do what makes you happy, not what your family thinks you should do. They will still love you even they don't understand you and that is ok. Good luck!

Would you sacrifice to be able to go to nursing school
I agree with the posters recommending finishing nursing school. It will be a sacrifice & it will be tough but you should be better off in the end. The economy is bound to get better, it always does (I'm older and have experienced this type of thing many times), and you'll have more options. If you were to get divorced, he should be paying child support so that will help. Also, there may be financial aid you qualify for if you're a divorced mom & in school. Look into all those possibilities too. My sister had 1 child and was divorced. She was able to get all her school paid for, daycare assistance and medical care for her child - all for free! It can be done. Good luck to you.

Who should I talk to?
you could look on their websites. a lot of employers now post all the open jobs on their website & they usually say what the minimum requirements are for a particular job. they all say BSN in my city and I think that is generally the trend these days but maybe not in all areas.

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
take a look at kahnacademy.org.

A&P I help?
This should all be in your A&P text book. I suggest using that as your first resource.

How aggressive is your follow-up?
In my former career I was the person doing the hiring, interviewing applicants, etc. If I interviewed someone and never heard from them again, I assumed they were not really interested in the job and I never hired those people. A thankyou note or follow up letter a few days after the interview was expected. It shows you're interested in the job and have basic professional courtesy skills. One phone call a week or so later, is appropriate in my opinion. However, it was very annoying and did not make a good impression when applicants called repeatedly. It sounds to me you have done everything just fine in this situation. The hard part now is the waiting. Good luck to you!

Answer this question please...
It sounds to me you are infusing your personal values/morals into that question and medical professionals should not do that. Our job is to provide sound medical advice and educate our patients. The answer to that question is clearly D.

Advise for upcoming clinical
Great advice! I'll be starting nursing school in August and all these tips will come in very handy. Especially the iPod idea. Thanks so much!

Compassion required???
based on your description of yourself, a nurse is the last thing you should be.

Taking Micro, Stats and Nutrition AT THE SAME TIME...TOO MUCH?
I think its doable but you will have to be very organized. I am not working now but I do have kids to take care of. I am currently taking the third quarter of A&P, Biochemstry and Microbiology. That's a big load: 3 tough science classes all with labs. I just stay on top of everything and I literally do nothing other than study. I have 4.0's in all my classes & I just got accepted into my nursing program so its all been worth it. You really can do anything you set your mind to. And again, the key to success is organization. Good luck to you!

new here...38 years old, just finished first year of college!
congratulations on a successful first year! Don't worry about age - its just a number. I was a CPA for 20 years and now, at age 45, have just been accepted to nursing school. You obviously are a great student so I'm sure you'll do just fine in nursing school. And don't worry about your age as far as getting a job - for one thing its illegal to discriminate based on age. Also, many employers prefer more mature employees who are committed, focused and not afraid to work hard. Often in our younger years, we are not so strong in these areas but we develop them through our life experience. If you are physically able and competent, you will find a job. Good Luck!

Older and back in nursing school...????
I am45 and starting a nursing program in the fall. I was a CPA for 20 years but never had a passion for that. I had a good job though that was very flexible so I stuck with it while I raised my kids. Now I'm finally able to follow my heart into nursing where I probably should have been all along. I've never been happier since the day I went back to school. Age really doesn't matter - it's only a number. Just follow your heart and work hard & you'll do fine.

I someone to motivate me! Im getting to discouaraged..
good advice in above posts - I agree... your motivation must come from within.

Does your nursing school/hospital provide scrubs/uniforms?
No, my school and none of the hospitals here provide scrubs that I know of. Actually, I'm not aware of many professions that provide clothing or uniforms for employee so I think just the way it works. I would think having 2 sets of scrubs would work though. You could wash & dry one, while wearing the other. Yes that's kind of a pain, but better than paying for 4. I totally agree with you that wearing scrubs 2 or more times without washing is disgusting and definitely increasing the risk of spreading infection to yourself, patients, and others though! icky!!!

Could it be...don't have to take Chemistry? :)
chemistry is the basis on EVERYTHING that occurs in the body. how you can understand a&p, pharmacology, etc without a solid chemistry background is beyond me. for my BSN we must take general chemistry, organic chemstry, and biochemstry before we can even apply to the nursing program. these are the hardest classes I've ever taken but they really have made the rest of it much easier to learn. don't knock chemistry... it's hard but its vitally important.

Hello? Is there anyone in my situation?
you might also qualify for grants or other financial aid for college that you don't have to pay back. and loans don't have to be repaid until after you graduate. I personally think loans for school are the only kind of debt that is acceptable, so I don't mind taking them when I need them. good luck to you.
-
Please tell me what you would do if you were me...
I would go for the BSN. It will definitely serve you better in the long run. In my city, the RN's with BSN's are the ones getting the jobs. It will also give you more options later on if you decide to go into management or administration. You might take on more debt now to do it, but I look at it as an investment in your future. If you're able to live on just one salary now, then once you graduate and start working you can pay those loans off faster then the payment terms if you want. I think you'll regret it if you don't just bite the bullet and get the BSN. Congrats on getting accepted to both programs - thats awesome!

Rejected and Im not sure what to do? ),:
It's great you raised your GPA & I agree with the other posts about finishing your unfinished pre reqs then reapplying. That is sound advice. You may also need to retake some of the other classes as well if you got a low grade. You might consider contacting the college and find out what the average GPA is for those accepted, if they will tell you that. Because even though 3.3 is good, it might not be good enough for that particular school. At my college the minimum GPA requirement is 2.8, but the competition is fierce! (i.e. about 175 people applying for 90 slots) so the college accepts only the very best; as in nobody with less than a 3.8 GPA gets accepted. Many people get rejected, retake the classes they didn't do well in, reapply and then get accepted. Its not the end of the world and you are not alone. You are very young and have lots of time so if you really want to be a nurse, you will do what you have to do. Good luck to you and never give up.

Crap...now what?
I would not withdraw at this point, but I would do some serious soul searching to determine why you are failing A&P. This is the baseline from which everything else will build so its extremely important to understand it... and not just for the grade in the current course but for your future success. Maybe you simply need to spend more time studying A&P. Good luck!
