Did you ever think that these people want the interaction with others. I have wondered about something and yes there is already a post about it. Now, if that post is 3 years old how is that helping me. Maybe I disagree about someone's comment. What's the chances that I can have an interaction with that one person. If you see a repeat question and you can't be bothered to read it DON'T READ IT.

We were always told by our supervisor it was a OSHA(sp?) Violation and were NOT allowed.to eat at the nurses station. Our manager even started checking the trash cans in the morning to make sure NIGHT shift was not eating there. I obeyed this until I saw my manager chit chatting with day shift at the nurses station while they were all sipping on their morning coffee! grrrrrrr!

My experience with day shift....they are usually late or strolling in right at 7. Then they have to put their belongings in their locker, get a cup of coffee, change their shoes, gossip.........gossip some more ......then they are ready for report. I get there early and I am ready for report on time or earlier. The beginning of my shift is cleaning up.....finding orders not done, labs not called etc. Day shift , for the most part, are in a bad mood as soon as they walk in the door. I hate giving report to a grouchy nurse, I should be the grouchy one I just worked 12 hours and I had to wait 20 minutes for you to take report.

Something I just noticed the other day at work. People that bring in their own coffers cups, dishes etc. Have been washing them in the little kitchen beside the nurses station. The disgusting part about that is they use the wash cloths we use on the patients!!! That is downright nasty!

I say give them a break you were new and just learning once right? Everyone cant be perfect like some of the nurses on here.

I can't remember the specifics but had a friend that talked to the financial aid department. Like I said I don't remember specifics but there was something "shady" about the information she was given. She decided against going there.

Sometimes it gets bad on my floor too. I'm thinking if I hear all this negativity about other coworkers then what are they saying about me. I'm not perfect I have done it too about a certain "experienced" nurse that almost NEVER checks on her patients, never seems to hear her iv's or BIPAP's beeping. I just get so annoyed with it ALL the time. I try not to do it. I only say what is true. There are some people that just get rude and talk about everyone and everything including personal comments. That I avoid and I will leave the nurses station. I don't want someone to ever say I was apart of it just because I'm sitting there.

I mixed valium with normal saline and it turned cloudy immediately. I know not to do that again.

Just had a big blow up at the hospital I work at. A nurse got in trouble for writing a tylenol order. Doctor ALWAYS signed it before. I guess he was in a bad mood that day and was questioning why order was written. Now we were all told even a tylenol,mom, colace etc order without an order is subject to disciplinary action including firing and reporting us to the board!! The doc shot himself in the foot on that one when he is now getting phone calls in the middle of the night about things we would normally take care of ourselves. Yes I know an order is an order no matter what it is but still its all because of a tylenol order and the nurse was being nice to not call him at 3am.

I would definitely quit. You should have been oriented. How can you be supervisor of someone when you cannot even do the job you're supervising.

Our cafeteria and "corner shop" closes prior to night shift. We do have coffee available that is free to staff and families ( yay me, I hate coffee) we just recently got a sandwich machine. Previously only had snack machine and POP machine. Night shift always does without.

You will not lose your license over. Also, the nurse caring for the patient should have been watching for the next ptt result. If none resulted the nurse could have simply put in the lab correctly. Obviously this needs to be brought to your attention but just for education purposes not discipline.

Wow I got tired just reading your post :) Seriously, don't stress out about it sometimes you can "overthink" the question. Just go in there confident. I remember having questions about topics that I NEVER learned in school. RELAX and you will do fine.

Absolutely this is a violation. Maybe call the MD and DEMAND to find out how his information was given out without permission. How horrible. Also, be prepared for all the high and mighty nurses that NEVER make a mistake and will be annoyed that you wrote HIPPA instead of HIPAA. Some people get soooooo annoyed about this :)

That is completely YOUR fault. I would never push a med without knowing what the primary fluid is. Your mistake not the LPN.

we use Meditech also, sounds like a pharmacy problem also not just a computer problem. We do not have ANY of the problems you mentioned. If there is an error it is usually the pharmacy that entered it in wrong but it's as easy as a phone call and the problem is corrected. Our discontinued meds the whole box turns yellow so it is easy to identify.

Why would you write Dr notified of pain 8/10 in the orders. That is something that should be written in your nurses notes.

I was thinking the same thing....hate the 'high moral grounders' myself....sometimes 'they' just need to back off.

Definitely talk to your manager. You shouldn't have to put up with this . We have a certain charge nurse on night shift that gives certain nurses (always new grads) a hard time, she talks about them, yells at them, makes them cry. She does it because she knows she CAN. So, I don't know if you have ever just stood up to her but maybe just one time of putting your foot down and saying "I'm not going to take this anymore" and she will change. It's worth a try. Have other nurses noticed her behavior towards you? Definitely DO NOT put up with this, our jobs are stressful enough without having to put up with this type of behavior.

I never leave meds anymore at the bedside. I tell them if they do not take the meds before I leave the room I will take them with me. Then if they call out and decide they NOW want to take them they have to wait for ME, because by then I will probably be doing something else.

I just missed and order last night. I was soooo mad when I found out. The order was written on day shift but was to be carried out on night shift. I was never told in report, never given a copy of the order. I asked the charge nurse, after I found out by the dayshift nurse that I missed the order. She said she was never even told about the order in charge report. I didn't do 24hour chart checks because I was busy and another nurse did them for me. There's no way I would have seen this order. I have made mistakes, who hasn't but I hate that I made an error because of another nurse. She should have passed on this information. Now, she did take the time to give me a new order written on her shift but it was the one written after the one I missed.

I work 7p-7a so my med pass isn't quite as bad as the first med pass on day shift. My routine is to assess each patient (I never have more than 5 patients), then I start my med pass, then I chart all my assessments. With an admission, prn med, phone call, etc.. thrown in there. If I have a daily med I'm not so concerned if it's a little late. The meds I always try to keep on time are meds such as antibiotics that are ordered q6 q8h etc. Or also for example solumedrol that is bid or qid. Depends on the med and the patient.

I can't believe people get so annoyed about someone writing HIPPA instead of HIPAA. Big deal, get over it. Or better yet make a post about that instead of hijacking someone's post about a serious matter. Oh wait we are nurses we are supposed to be perfect right??
