Conversion Charts?
Does anyone have a link to an online metric conversion chart? My Pharmacology teacher gave us a practice quiz on basic metric conversion and I can't for the life of me remember what they are! TIA

A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club
We had our first class last night. I have the same teacher as last semester for A&P I so I already knew what to expect. I think we're going to have 5 tests including the final. Later we're going to dissect a rat. That oughta be interesting.

A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club
Hi everyone! It looks like some of you have already started class. Mine doesn't start until Wednesday but since I found this thread I'm going to go ahead and join in. I'm having the same teacher as I did for A&P I. I did really well in his class (got an A) so I hope to do just the same in A&P II. He's a good teacher and I learned alot from him. Good luck to everybody!

Hello
I doubt you would. I know at my school all of the health programs have the same pre-reqs. Check in to it. Good luck!

A&P 1: The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club
I got my skeletal exam back last night! I made a 93.5!! I didn't think I did that well due to the fact that I didn't study as much as I should have. But much to my suprise I passed. I guess the bonus question helped (name all of the cranial bones).

Public Speaking?
Did you take a public speaking class? That's a prerequisite for most nursing programs. I used to have a fear of that until I took it, I realized it wasn't half bad. I just imagined talking to one person instead of a class full of people. That said, I would highly reccomend you taking a public speaking class if you haven't already, then you'll feel alot more comfortable with the situation. Good luck!

A&P 1: The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club
This belongs in it's own thread but I wanted to post it here since it is the A&P 1 club thread and I hope to get better response here. But I need some tips about how to study the the Epithelial Tissues. We have a test on them Monday night and I'm having trouble remembering the characteristics (I'm familiar with the shapes. e.g. Stratified=layered, Squamous=thin and flattened, ect.) I just need to know where the locations, characteristics are ect. I pretty much have the connective down pat, it's just the epithelial that I'm having trouble with. TIA!

How did you find out about allnurses?
I found it from a link off of another message board. This site has been very helpful to me and I love the support that we have for each other.

Nursing School vs. Rad Tech school
Thanks for the reply. I did look into it and the requirements are just about the same as the LPN requirements at my school. Just one or two extra classes thrown in there. This is just something I'm considering right now. The catolog also mentions that going to two different facilites for job shadowing is a requirement for the admission to the program. So I may take an A&P course this semester and figure out where I wanna go from there.

Nursing School vs Rad Tech School
Well, luckily the Rad Tech curriculum at my school is alot like the LPN curriculum. I already have math, public speaking, psychology and one of the englishes out of the way. There's not really any "techie" courses that are required. So I just have to take the other english, and 2 A&P courses to get into the program. But I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I know that in nursing school I had to retain so much information. I was just wondering if the same thing goes for Rad tech school. Right now I'm just looking down different avenues.

Nursing School vs Rad Tech School
I also posted this on the Radilogy Nursing board but I haven't gotten any replies yet but I'm hoping to have better luck here. I know that there are a few people who post on this board who is or has been through Rad Tech school. I'm thinking about changing my major and Rad Tech is something I've thought about doing in the past. I just want to know how demanding Rad school is and what the content is like vs. Nursing school.

Nursing School vs. Rad Tech school
Just wondering if anybody on here is or has ever been through Rad Tech school. I'm considering going to Rad Tech school because I don't know if I'm really cut out for nursing. I failed one of my courses and I feel like it's really too much for me. I just wanna know if Rad Tech school is as difficult as Nursing school as far as content goes. Any help would be appreciated.

Websites...
This is a repeat post that I started in the General Student forum but I haven't gotten any replies. We were given a teaching assignment in my fundamentals class where we find a "patient" to practice educating them on something like wound care, med admin., vital signs, ect. Does anybody know have a link to a website that I can show my "patient" how to give themselves vital signs such as tempatic temperature or wound care? This is due on Monday so any help would be appreciated.

Rude and crude RN
I agree with the above posters that you should report him. Most facilities have no tolerance policies against sexual behavior/harassment. It seems to me like he's destracting in your work environment. So the best thing for you to do is report him.

All new lpn students tell me how it is going
I'm in my sixth week. It's going ok. So far we've had 4 tests total. I did good on some and not so good on others. We've had check offs on handwashing, vitals, transfers, NG tubes and we're about to be checked off on bed bath/bed making. It's a little tough but for the most part I'm enjoying it (except for a few people in my class, but that's another topic). I have test in Fundamentals tomorrow on 7 chapters so I better get my rear end off here and study.

What was your first LPN job? Was it difficult to find after grad?
Thank you very much. I'll keep that in mind.

What was your first LPN job? Was it difficult to find after grad?
I've read other people's posts on here saying that some facilities in their area will let new grad LPN's work before they get thier liscence. Does anybody that lives in the Birmingham area know any facilities that does this? I don't graduate until next August and I would like to have a job lined up for me after graduation. Any input would be of help.

Help with taking BP
To reinterate what dave1117 and sabRN2b05 said, you can practice by holding the diaphraghm/bell in a way that would drown out the background noise. You can hold on do the diapraghm with your thumb and middle finger, and put your index finger on top of the bell and that'll get rid of background noise.

Help with taking BP
The systolic is the first beat you hear. If you hear a scratch that usually indiates the person is breathing which is an interference in the stethescope. If your watching the needle move and it slows down as if it was a second hand on a watch, that means it's measuring the BP. Hope that helps. :)
