Will it ever get better out there?
Just an observation...you said you wanted to get your thread back on topic...and then proceeded to talk about Christmas celebrations.

Nursing Is A Business: Get Used To It!
I don't believe "Get used to it" is a mentality workers should have. This is the mentality that whoever is making these unstaff staffing ratio decisions wants you to have. Give up and suck it up is the mentality of defeat. But for anything to happen, we have to agree with a way to correct things.........and enough of us have to organize together.

Nursing Is A Business: Get Used To It!
When exactly did this happen? I'm not being facetious...I geniunely want to know when things were better.

Is this ok to do when applying for jobs?
Props to you for liking SNF/LTC. Personally, I haven't work in one that had decent staffing and I always felt like a med pusher and the environments were awful. You can go directly to the facilities and ask for an application. After you fill it out, you can ask if the DON is available. The ones around here I see ads all the time, I presume because of high turn over rate. Good luck.

Is this common with teaching hospitals?
I respectfully disagree that the OP has "misconceptions" about teaching hospitals. IMHO, the OP has a valid complaint. If I may, he/she was made to feel like an object and not a person. It's interesting to find that posters that have been in similar situations(made to feel objectified) can identify with this. I also feel that even though they are "licensed physicians", they are indeed still learning because they are brand new doctors. Just because the experience wasn't "out of the ordinary" does not make it exemplary care.

Is this common with teaching hospitals?
I'm sorry this happened to you. I agree, the behavior is rude. I chose a teaching hospital for my first baby, because it is considered "the best". That being said, after a first year resident couldn't place an internal monitor or identify the baby's head placement on the ultrasound, I requested a different doctor(a fourth year). Fortunately, they didn't act rude at my bedside...as far as I can recollect. Just because it's a teaching hospital doesn't excuse poor bedside manner. I think this is lacking more and more...teaching hospital or not.

Be careful what you divulge
Even if you change your name, if the user looks at your history, you old name is viewable in responses. There is nowhere to hide.

You want us to do what?!?
I'd donate $20 (to fund the co-pay for her psych visit) because clearly any semblance of rational thought has escaped her.

Am I asking too much?
So...I had a recent need to utilize the county health clinic and the "nurse" called me back. She didn't introduce herself and wasn't wearing a badge. She asked me questions regarding history, gave me the shot and that was it. Now, I realize the occasional, "whoops, I forgot my badge today," but it is a pet peeve of mine of healthcare providers not wearing identification. Even then, this person didn't even introduce herself. I realize that health care nowadays has a lot bigger problems than someone wearing a badge, but...really, it is too much too ask? Anyone have other pet peeves?

Moving from Compact to Non Compact State..HELP!
Compact doesn't make that much difference. I never found it that useful since every time I moved even if the new state was "compact", I still had to apply for a new license. The compact mostly helps nurse who are travelers. If you change your actual physical address and relocate, the new state's board will require a (new state)license in that state... even if you're moving compact to compact. It takes about a month to a month and a half.

A nursing home with no nurses.
Just watched it...1.6 billion in profit/year. This is disgusting. I wouldn't be so appalled if the worker conditions weren't so awful. The reference to skilled nursing makes skilled seem better. Yeah right.

tucking scrub pants in shoes
Hopefully, "these nurses" demonstrate greater sensitivity toward patients.

You think the "Nursing Glut" is bad now?
As far as nursing homes, I attribute the horrible staffing to the "for profit" nature of the company, not government reimbursements. With that being said, the hiring of MAs in lieu RNs is another example of the decline of healthcare in this country. The goals now are money, standard protocol, avoidance of lawsuits, and how quickly the provider can see/medicate the patient, not actually to get to know him and collaborate as a team. Not that I am against MAs, it's just American healthcare priorities are extremely twisted and misguided.

Unemployed for 18 months now.......
How did you get a job after you gave up? Did someone contact you that you had previously applied to? OP: For what it's worth, you're not alone. When will this economy turn around?
-
Sorry state of Nursing ...
With all due respect, I find this post very belittling. For someone who has been looking for work and applied to countless jobs, I am supposed to "stop whining" and "go live in the woods"? It is difficult to remain an optimist after countless rejections. I am furthering my education, while continuing to accrue more debt. The solution is not as simple as one makes it to be. Members of Congress could care less about the state our healthcare system is in; they don't even care if our government shuts down, so long as they have a nice house to go home to and corporate lobbyists willing to give them money.

Still Looking.......
This a joke, right? Why would the government pay you if you quit your job?

Out of Work Nurse
The problem with health care in this country is not the ACA; it is Congressmen bickering, earning large paychecks and being content with gridlock for everyone else. Meanwhile, many Americans are content with choosing sides and not working toward a compromise. We are a divided country with regards to values. The economy tanked because businessmen got greedy and unethical. Many Americans continue to believe propaganda if only the 'other' party would do this, things would be better. The truth is that members of Congress need to make LESS money and all the CONFLICTS OF INTEREST that occur there need to stop. But maybe I'll see a flying dragon today. It truly surprises me that people do not see the value in the pre-existing clause in the ACA. Sorry, but if I get sick and change insurances, I don't want to go bankrupt. Why this doesn't bother more people baffles me. To the OP, I emphasize with you! I haven't been able to find work either. :/
