  1. The hospital (NYC) I used to work for almost two yrs ago started me at 15.97. My ending pay rate was close to 17.00. Hope this helps. I think this is the typical pay for cna in nyc. I am not sure of the nursing homes though as far starting pay , I would assume it would be around 15?
  2. In my opinion , I would accept the offer from pace and go forth with the process as if you were going to attend in the fall. However, if and when you recieve acceptance from nyu and thats where you want to go; couldnt you then let pace know that there is a change in your situation and you decided not to attend. The only questionable thing would be the deposit you have to pay to pace, would you loose it if you decide not to attend? Good luck and congratulation on your acceptance
  3. Hi I am looking to apply to three of these schools. For myself I would rank them in this order. Beth Israel Dorothy Hopfer Cochran For BI , all I have heard are great praises for this school. I did some research and this school would be the perfect fit for me. Other factors are location, schedualing and degree options, ie Two year tradition, atop, three year or evening. What I get from BI is that they really look at each applicant as a whole every thing you hand in and also the test score counts and is looked at. Dorothy , and cochran are also another excellent options for me. I also chose them for the location and schedualing options. Dorothy accepts students in the fall and spring , so does cochran. Hope I covered all you asked. Nicole
  4. Hey tay chick for the nln book the author is mary McDonald . The book is nln review guide for rn-pre entrance exam 2nd edition. I got mines at barnes and nobles for 24.99 .
  5. would you happen to know if the the high school listed for the lpn program offered in nyc , would they accept non-high school students as well. My high schoo, use to offer the lpn program but they phased it out a couple of years before I started high school and they put the cna major in its place.
  6. I am taking the same classes as you are except for nutrition. I was alittle hesitant to take these two classes together, but its not like it cant be done just have to work hard. nicole
  7. Hi I went to ABC training center also. I know that there is a school call manhattan institiute, located in manhattan. Not sure of the exact location. http://www.manhattaninstitute.com and I think There is a place called nymedcenter in queens? I am not sure though. Hope this helps. Nicole

  11. MrsGPR Are the mandatory math and reading test for entrance into the nursing program, the school itself, or both? Thanks Nicole
  12. Ok good. I didnt know that there is an entrance exam. Is this something new ?
  13. Hi You should apply then being that you have all your classes completed.
  14. I was told I needed A&P I,II , Chemistry, English I,II, Psycology, Dev psych, Nutriton, College Algebra, Intro to computers. I left out microbio even though you do need the class but you dont need it to get in, You can take it there if you want. Also statistics is required but you can take it there also. Four electives in the area of Art History English Foreign Language (has to be I,II) ex spn 1, 2 classics I think thats about it and you do need a overall gpa of 3.0. All this information was given to me by a counselor at the school. hth
  15. Hey I hope more will reply to this thread. I am also applying to cnr for the sp 08 semester . However, I might put it to fall 08 I really want to finish the rest of my prerequsites. From my experience form visiting the school and interacting with the staff and students , it was pretty good. I love the feel of the campus and its a small school. Thats all I can say about it. Oh and the counselors are very heplful. I always call them to ask a question such as wether a class will transfer and what specific class should I take. Nicole
  16. Wow , thats not fair, but thats how it is. I am still going to try for a hospital position but its not a biggie if I dont land one. From my previous experience I felt more comfortable in the nursing home setting. I getting very excited now thinking about it. thanks
  17. Thanks everyone for your responce.
  18. Can some one shed some light or advice please. In 2001 i recieved my cna liscene. CNA was my major in high school so when it was time to graduate hs , I took the state boards andI passed. However, there after I took a different career path and I forgot about my cna liscence. It expired in 2003. Fastfoward to now and I decided since sping 07 I want to pursue a profession in healthcare after working in the insurance field. I remeber that I had the cna liscene so I called state board and they said I can just re test for the written and clinical. I figured more or less that I forgot certain skills and I am sure that new information has been added from all this years. So I decided to bite the bullet and go to a training center to take the cna class over, so I a m redoing everything. Well everything that I learned from before is so different from how I am learning now. Also all we do is read the book and take a class test. If that was the case I would bought my own book and study at home. What I am trying to ask is should I contine , even though I am 2 weeks into finishing the class and just study on my own for the stateboard? I honestly thought that by redoing the class at this training center would benefit me, but I really am nervous about passing stateboards this time around. Any opinions Nicole
  19. I am currently in the last 2 weeks of my cna class and I gathering as much information as possible. I was told that if you work at a hospital and when its time to re-new for your cna liscence you have to re take the state boards again? However I did ask my instructor and she said that if you work in a hospital as a cna you would have to do a least 8 hrs in the time span of 2years so your liscnese wont expire.? I am just looking to find what is correct. I am in NYC. Thanks Nicole
  20. Hello Everyone I dont know if am posting in the right thread , but I would like to know does failing A&P means that you wont be successful in nursing school. My sp 07 a&p professor was telling me even though I was doing good in the class, but it wasnt good to say I would be successful or even get into a nursing program. I recieved a grade of c- so I am retaking the course. I just couldnt shake the feeling of being discouraged. Then she asked me what program I want to do , I said want to pursue a bsn . She then said are you sure you want to do that as if there was something wrong going for a bsn. I hoping someone could give there experience or opinion. Thanks Nicole
  21. Have you also tried the nursing homes ? Or are you just interested in working in the hospital?
  22. You know, I am really not sure if abc teaches you how to interpet the ekg. I havent taken the course yet .I am looking into othe places that is reasonably priced and the time that would fit my schedule. Thanks for the suggestion.
  23. Hello Yes, abc does offer the ekg/phelbotomy course. For ny medical training center I believe is in queens. Can I ask did abc help you as far asjob placement or was it just help with yor resume? Things may have change from when you went up until now, but I just wanted to now if they had that same practice of helping with finding a job. Thanks
  24. Great, I am currently at abc taking the cna course, I hope it was all worth becuase the money I paid . I like it so far, everything I am learning is a review for me because I took cna as a major in high school and I passed the state board and all , but never work as a cna. Now 6 years later here I am . I could have just re-test by taking the clinical and written test over, but I didnt feel as if I remebered everything . I am alos looking into the ekg & phelbotomy course at abc, but the price is firece, my goodness. Are you cpr certified, if not try looking into that as well , the more you have under your belt , I beleive the more marketable you are as far as getting hired.
