I'm calling back in the morning to accept the job. This weekend my parents looked over all of the benefit papers with me and we talked it all out and decided it was a really good thing. During the interview she really didn't ask very many questions. I was really nervous but she was very laid back and we were making "small talk" and laughing. An instructor told me that the "small talk" turns into BIG talk and that some interviewers use this to get an idea of what kind of personality you have. She asked why I wanted to become a nurse and why I chose the school I did and what I knew about the hospital. Definitely do some research about the hospital/organization beforehand. I got a short tour of the hospital and a more in depth tour of the unit. I made a list of questions to ask, but she answered most before I got the chance. They were things like pay scale, shift differentials, nurse/pt ratio, staffing patterns on floor (# of RN, LPN, NA per shift), length of orientation and can it be extended. Good luck!

I had my first interview this morning and I REALLY REALLY REALLY liked the hospital. I called the lady in HR after I left to let her know what I thought and to thank her for meeting with me. She told me that "since you probably have been interviewing with other facilities, call me and let me know if you're interested" Well i haven't been to any other interviews mainly b/c of my school schedule. I've only applied at two other places and neither one called me back. Is it too soon to jump on this job without seeing any other places? It felt right when I went up to the floor and met all of the nurses. Thanks for any advice. :)

i would recommend a Saunders NCLEX review book eventually...good comfortable shoes..I love Merrells..they are soooo great

I'm tryin to decide what kinda of stethoscope I want to recieve from my parents as a graduation present in August. Has anyone or does anyone use an ultrascope or know anything about them? I really haven't heard too much. Thanks for the help guys.

I am just a student nurse but we did a rotation today in the ER. The MD was VERY willing to teach and explain and we started talking about migraines and he says that many people come in and want pain meds not necessarily migraine meds and that they don't like him because he only gives Toradol or Imitrex...and won't give pain meds because sometimes they cause rebound migraines.

Saunder's is by far the best NCLEX book I've seen. It's the second edition...it has a red cover. I've used it all throughout the program and it's helped tremendously.

I am in the LPN program at Central Alabama CC and one of my classmates works as a PCA at Brookwood and she said they start LPNs at $15/hr...not bad,but I think one of the requirements is that you have to be planning to go back to school to get your RN degree. Most places that I know start at around $11 or $12/hr.

hey guys... I'm in my last semester of my LPN program and for our Role Transition class we have to do a group project about an issue that affects nursing care. I've chosen to focus on impaired nurses...whether from mental illness, chronic illness, or drug/alcohol abuse and how it affects pt care, etc. I would really appreciate any opinions, ideas or experiences dealing with this issue. I would really love to have someone's first hand experience and present it to my class and tell how they dealt with it and if/how they returned to practice. Thanks so much for any responses.

i have a mosby's and I've been slowly workin my way through it. It seems pretty good but I don't think there are any new format questions in it. I have heard that lippincott is pretty good and so is saunders.

I've always been a huge fan of E.R. and it's funny cuz now I'm able to recognize words and things they are saying and pick out things that are unbelievable to people who are in the actual medical field, but I love the show just for it's drama. I try not to pick out things that are wrong..i just try to separate myself from doin that to enjoy the show. I'm a sucker for ER and Scrubs..I think it is hillarious. Ray Liotta did an amazing job last night. Definitely a good episode.

Thanks for replying...i was wondering about the year of med-surg that most people seem to do. The baby probably was a lot longer than 4 inches now that I read back over that...i think my mind was somewhere else when I typed it. I have that problem a lot..my fingers move faster than my brain. Lol. Anyways...thanks again.

hey everyone...i'm just a first year student but I got to visit the Regional NICU at UAB Hospital in Birmingham,AL today. One of my good friends who is in school also has a little boy that has a lot of heart problems and was in the NICU for awhile after he was born. We were in town for a convention and she went to visit the NP who took care of her son and she let us walk through and look around. The smallest baby there was 1lb. 6oz. and was about 4 in. long...he was SO tiny. I had an idea that I might like to work in L&D or NICU but this absolutely confirmed it for me. My heart went out to every baby there and I think it would be such an amazing feeling to make a big impact on such a helpless little life. My question to you guys is...how hard is it to get a NICU position right out of school? Do you have any suggestions on how to make it easier? Thanks guys!

yeah very very sad...my bfs family HAD a condo and we went down last week to check it out....just awful...so much destruction..it was amazing how little justice all the pics on the news you saw did to the actual damage.

I got to see a vag delivery last week! It was soo exciting. The mom, grandmother, great grandmother and me and the other student were all crying by the time it was over. =)

I am just a first year student but I was allowed to sit in on a delivery yesterday during clinicals. This was the mother's first child and she had lacerations due to pushing with a rim. i don't know all of the details or technical stuff because they just grabbed us off of another floor because it was a good opportunity. But I was wondering about this because she did have several lacerations. Glad i saw this post.

that's sad...on the news today there were 3 or 4 dogs just wandering the streets in the rain and flooding and they kept questioning who the owners were...it's sad that some people could leave their pets behind

Well the worst of Ivan is over here in Central Alabama. The coast got hit pretty hard. The sudden turn east spared Mobile but it creamed Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, Pensacola and a few other places pretty bad. It sped up once it got inland some so it's almost gone..just some bad wind and moderate rain left. Good luck to anyone still waiting to get back to your homes...my prayers are with you all.

yeah in Alabama they made both sides of I-65 northbound so that people could evacuate...once it gets above montgomery it goes back to both directions so the traffic is AWFUL. We have a family friend who lives in Gulf Breeze, FL..right outside of Pensacola and she has family here. She came back yesterday and she brought her dogs with her. I guess the shelters are more for people a little more inland who are going to shelters themselves and can't take pets with them. I know I wouldn't want to leave my dog though..I would want to keep him with me if at all possible.

I'm not sure about the vet offices but I know that people have volunteered to stay at the shelters througout the weekend to look after pets. I am in lower central alabama and they are making sure that people know that there are shelters available for both pets and humans. We are expected to get hurricane force winds and extreme amounts of rain tomorrow so people are really taking Ivan seriously..which is a very good thing. It's a dangerous storm...

Here in Alabama a lot of people are putting their pets into animal shelters. On the news they showed a line of about 200 people in Mobile trying to get their pets into shelters before the storm hits later tonight. It's gettin scary here folks.

i've definitely noticed more acne breakouts since school started about 3 weeks ago. I've never had bad acne before and now I've had 4 or 5 bad break outs since school started. Guess I'll get some Pre-Active
