  1. I take NCLEX on Thurs. I have been studying nonstop but feel SO unprepared. I am literally on the verge of tears every single second because I am so stressed out. i want this so badly. Im so afraid of getting home, doing the PVT and going to the cc page. advice?!
  2. Jealous! Its going to be the best Christmas present ever!
  3. Our last final isnt until December 23!
  4. Holy Cow! Cant belive im posting this! 14 weeks until graduation...and only 12 of them are school! So excited! Who else graduates in December?!
  5. i probablystudy about 20 hours a week for school(except finals time, I studied 16 hrs in 3 days this quarter). I have VERY little time between school, clinical, studying and work to spendmuch time at all with my 2 year old. I would say that no, your kids cant expect for you to be around much. I only work 6 hours a week ad its a struggle to balance...i just tell myself/family/child its only for a short time nad Ill be back. NS really does take alot of sacrifice. Good lUck.
  6. My psych clinical is 120 miles away 1 way. it takes a little over 2 hours to get there..and we have to be there by 730. My medsurg clinical is about 60 miles away.
  7. We have always done 12s until this quarter. our psych is 8s but med surg is 12s. Its a long day but i actually like it.
  8. My schedule this quarter is Mon-clinical Tues-clinical(12 hours) Wed off Thurs/Fri class 8-1230 so I can work. I actualyl just got a job and an hoping to pick up another one for weekend waitressing.
  9. Nursing is a completely different way of thinking and some people just cannot think like that. Its hard, but you just have to use your brain differently.
  10. Our rotation is at a mental hospital. I am afraid of getting hurt. ALOT of these pts are there bc they cannot function in prison. The first thing we were told was about a nurse getting her cheek bone fractured by a resident last week. I am terrified of this. I am 115 lb and my "parter/buddy" is about the same. We would have NO hope of gaining control over a pt who is haveing a psychotic break(which apparently happens often as they are of course not forced to take their meds and thus their conditions are not controlled) The whole time I am there all I am focused on is how to keep myself nad my partner safe and not so much on the pts care or being an effective nurse. I just am not really sure what to do. I am really overwhelmed. My instructor basically says we need to get over it(Im not the only one to feel this way).
  11. I am in my psych rotation now and we are doing part of our clinical (6 weeks) at a state hospital. I am terrified of psych nad really dont want anything to do with it. Im so nervous while Im there that I dont know taht I can be effective for my patients. Any advice?
  12. We go 1 day a week from 7a-7p. Its a long day but I like it.
  13. I dont handle it well. I have a 2 year old little boy who is my life. Luckily, my amazing husband does ALOT of the day to day care for him because IM at school, studying or at clinical. I feel VERY VERY VERY guilty about it but I jsut tell myself its 11 months and Im all his again(on my days off). I struggle with it alot though.
  14. My BIL has stated that Im taking the easy way out with nursing nad that it wasn't an "important" job. I quickly pointed out that both his mom asd step mom are RNs and he needs to check himself real quick. and I also pointed out that when he had surgery, who actually took care of him. it wasnt the guy with MD behind his name, thats for sure.
  15. Considering DH is taking care of ALL of our bills right now(and were hoping to have pretty much everything paid off at tax time), and it will be that way until I graduate...my 1st check is going to buy DS a new toy(hell be 3 and everytime I go to school he says"mommy school so mommy buy me new toys), Ill buy hubby a new pair of shoes just because(he has an obsession) and Ill get me a mani/pedi, a new Vera Bradley bag, and buy my mom(probably a new vera as well) and dad(probably new pans) something, then the rest is going in savings so we can move to TN :) Oh and hopefully a pregnancy test too!
  16. Im pretty sure Im the only nursing student ever who LOVES med-surg! Its only med-surg 1 and its only been yesterda and today but I am literally loving it. I have a great teacher and hes really makes EVERYTHING as easy to understand as possible! What about everyone else?
  17. Im a 4th qurter ASN student. Im taking med/surg and geri and micro. We dont have a med/surg clinical this quarter(we have 2 more quarters of it with clinicals) but I have my first geri clinical on Thursday at a HUGE nursing home. not looking forward to it bc im not a fan of nursing homes but well see...alot of ppl have said they didn't want anything to do with nursing homes nad ended up loving it so well see!
  18. Im with the origional poster. I have my first clinical(geri) on Thursday. Its a 12 hour day and Im so nervous. Im not sure what to take with me? They haven't told us anything.
  19. Yeah its pretty intense...Med-Surg + Geri + Micro + Clinical...they just kind of throw us into 12s! Im scared to death (espeically bc Im not a fan of hte geri part).
  20. Absolutely not! I worked my butt off to get into nursing school and have worked my butt off every second since. No reason to be ashamed.
  21. Nervous! We have class MT 8-2 and clincial Thursday 7a-7p...its our first set of clincials(geri) so im SUPER nervous!!
  22. Im going to be honest...in Bloomington, a friend of mine has all As, 1 B and an 89on her TEAS and didn't get it..Have you looked at any different schools around Indy?
  23. We have to wear our scrubs at all times(even in class). I go to an all medical profession college and each program has a different color scrubs...RNs are purple + white shoes and in clincials we have silver name tags.
  24. My school is about $50,000 for the whole 21 month program. Yes its ridiculous however, im done way faster than alot of ppl. My school does take federal loans adn grants though. I did have to take out a Private loan and so far everythings been pretty legit with it :)
  25. Its just so much to learn and know and ALL of it is important. I walked out of class today feeling TOTALLY overwhelmed. Our teacher also gave us a "weed out" speech where she mentioned that 1/2 of us probably wont make it through it this quarter(we only ahve 21 right now, started with 27 in April).
