TEAS in 5 Days!
If I had a short amount of time to study, I would first do one of the practice TEAS tests online -available via ATI testing . Then i'd focus on my weak points. HTH :). GL

Has anyone gotten into a program with a C in Chemistry?
Yep, I just got into the ADN program starting this fall with a "C" in chemistry. What helped me were my higher grades in my A&P, Eng, Math, GPA, Teas score, etc. So, with all that being said, I wouldn't let that Chem score hinder you. :). GL.

How hard is the new NCLEX 2013 Test Plan
I took my NCLEX today and it cut me off at minimum. I had a lot (stressing a lot) of SATA , a few drag and drops, scenerios, some conference q's, and a lot of delegations and priorities. There were no math questions and I felt that my test touched base on everything I learned in school. It was hard, but nothing out of the ordinary. My studying consisted of ATI (which the nclex was very similiar to), lippincotts, and kaplan. Our school did the Kaplan review & after taking the nclex it did not feel realistic to the nclex at all. It may be good strategy wise, but no more then hurst, lippincotts, or even ATI. Anyways, I started reviewing for 2 wks for a couple of hrs a day. I took minimum & finished it in a couple of hours. When I got home, I did the pearson vue trick and got the good pop up. Myself, I didn't pay extra as I should be listed on the NCBON in a few business days and that's what's most important to me - the license #- so I can start applying for jobs lol :) GL everyone who is to take/retake the nclex :)

FTCC or RCC (Robeson community college) Need Guidance Please Help!!
Hey Lachell, Would you be up for taking A&P online w/another NC community college? I took mine with Stanly CC and really loved my teacher. I know you said close, but I just wanted to give you another option. To look up online transferable classes, I used the NC Community college system.HTH'sAlexandra

Nursing Schools in North Carolina
Hey there! I lived in Fayetteville, NC and they have a great school thats off bragg blvd (goes towards Ft. Bragg) - it is called Fayetteville Technical community college. If you lived on Bragg, it wouldn't take you maybe 10 minutes to get there. If you have questions about the schools or the area let me know :). I'd be happy to answer them for you. HTH :)~Alexandra

Nursing with cancer
I have a friends with thyroid cancer and she was accepted into a nursing program @ our local community college. She did decline because of how the treatments were affecting her. Take care.

Any programs near Asheville, NC
AB tech has a great program, as they partner with WCU to complete the program with a BSN if you want to go that route or you could just complete the associates program. There is the community college in Waynesville too that I've heard is a great school. There is Blue Ridge CC as well, but I've not heard heads or tails about their program. They are in Fairview btw. There are some great ppl on this board looking at AB tech who could give you a lot more info then I could as I live just an hour outside of Asheville and I'm not as familiar with the programs. All I know is AB tech gets a lot of applicants so for what's worth, I'd have high test scores and a high GPA. Take Care, Alexandra

54 year old sahm, am I nuts to think I want this?
My boss from my prior job just graduated as an LPN, and she is in her mid-50's. If she can do it, so can you :) GL

South College - Asheville, NC?
Hey Jazzy, I agree, encouragement is always appreciated. One of the best things they told us @ SC (during the nursing seminar) was we should look @ each other as future classmates and not as competition. My girlfriend is wanting to take the EMS/T program with ABTech and she keeps talking about going to visit but we can never meet up due to schedules :\ I didn't know about that program! I was thinking about taking it with Mayland and completing it w/Lees-McRae but i'd rather pay 3 yrs of CC tuition then 2, lol. I'll defiantly keep you posted, as I'd love to have someone to talk to about this journey! :) TY for everything..

PSB RN Test
Hey JL, I am so sorry to hear that . I felt the same when I didn't make the TEAS. When I studied, I really only focused on the math and chemistry since they had been my harder subjects. With the english and reading comp, I just kind of blew it off because I have always done so well in both and as you, I read daily. Well those areas of the test were harder then I thought and therefore caused me to panic. I started second guessing everything I put down. I didn't do terrible but I could have done so much better if I had studied and I know that's what i'll do next time. I have to work on my test anxiety. And I couldn't agree more, they do put way too much emphasis on a test. Our school only gives you 4 pts for a 4.0 gpa, and the min to get into the program is a 2.5. This shows where the bulk of your pts come from out of 100 pts you have to earn to apply (if that makes sense). It took me a little bit to get over getting waitlisted, then I started looking into other schools and I shall overcome my test anxiety, lol. Your post has helped me and again, i'm sorry you didn't get into the program. If you decide to take apply to a school that takes the TEAS, the Peterson book and the ATI book are good. Good Luck in the path you choose. Take Care, Alexandra

South College - Asheville, NC?
Hey Jazzy, I completely forgot about this post, lol :). I went up to visit SC because they refuse to do any inquiries over the phone and met with an advisor with my transcript, then met the nursing director as well. They all gave me their sales pitch and my impression of them reminded me of car salesmen. They said that someone was going to approve my math class because they couldn't wrap mind around it or i'd have to take a class there, plus wouldn't it be better to take classes with us to get those extra 11 pts. I looked over their point system and pointed out that since I made A's that would make up their 11 pt difference for being a contender into their program. So they went and got my math class approved, but something just told me in the back of my mind that if I did apply to their nursing program, my math class would not qualify me even with an override, maybe I was being a negative Nancy IDK. Afterwards, they constanty called and emailed me at home, harassing me to apply. I wasn't going to apply unless absolutely certain I wanted to go since my job just laid us off, a $50.00 application fee is a lot of money when I gotta feed my kiddo. So, to help with my decision, I also went to their nursing seminar and as you said, it was very disorganized. After crunching the #'s and put into account the "something doesn't feel quite right", I decided not to apply. If I am going to spend that much, I better be coming out with a BSN, not an Associates. I also didn't want to fight to justify why i've taken this certain required math class that is the pre req for most NC community colleges. My decision is to apply to a few local CC's instead and hope to get into the fall 2012 ADN program. Maybe it is like this with all private schools (I am not an expert as I have never been to one beyond SC) to make applicants feel as this is just a money making scheem. South College maybe for some, but it is not for me.

PSB RN Test
Thanks for all info. I'm glad you said that about the Peterson book. I was starting to really worry that this was going to be harder then the Teas, lol. Were there any terribly difficult questions that come to mind? How aweful that it is mixed around. Being nervous is going to be my downfall so i'm going to have to focus and your message is going to help me study. I appreciate it :)

Best way to save money when buying Text Books for BSN program?
Hey there! If I can't find a great deal at Amazon or ebay, i.e used, etc. I found that if you go to the company that prints/distributes the book and look at other options for purchasing their books you can save some $$ with them too. For this semester, I decided to take a class out of pocket and Pearson was the distributer for the book I needed. The book, even used was 150.00 on Amazon. So, I checked up on Pearson's page via a link from Amazon and they had an unbound copy for 60.00 cheaper which included a key I needed for the online portion. I didnt really care if it was bound or unbound as I have plenty of binders from my past classes! Plus they offered free shipping and I jumped on the deal. Just another option for you. Take care! :) ~Alexandra

PSB RN Test
Hey there Jlpsu! Ok i'm gonna sound stupid asking but ....... was it easier then you thought or harder? Study tips? What were the questions like? Did you find out your score immediately? I see a lot on the TEAS but barely anything on the PSB...So if you don't care to share your experience about the test that would be awesome :)

Last Minute Advice On the Teas V
Hey there Jackie.. I would say get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast. On the test, take your time and don't let your nerves get the better of you. Read the questions thoroughly. Also on the math, the questions are not what I'd deem as difficult but some are tedious, don't allow your time to runaway from you. There is more then enough time one the science section so I wouldn't worry too much. My last bit of advice is not to go back and double/triple check as it gave me doubts about my answers - unless you are adament that you know something is wrong, just let it be. Goodluck to you and remember to breath, I noticed for the first little bit that I held my breath forever until I relaxed a bit.

Is she jelousy or what
Hey there! I feel your pain. I got waitlisted into never neverland for my school of choice ( there is only 1 community college in 4 counties) and I decided to apply to a private college about an hour away. My reason was similar to yours and as an informed adult I know of the good, bad, and the ugly of going to a private vs a CC. So my friend who got accepted into the program insists on trying to talk me out of it to the point of ugliness. With as hard as it is to get into this CC program and the lack of competition, college wise, i know i am not going to get into the CC program this yr but she insists on bad mouthing my decision that we don't talk. It is your decision and it is your $$. I would just tell her that the discussion is not up for debate and move on. Take care :)

Are there any study manuals out there for the PSB RN? (beyond what is on their website). Anything else that you'd offer up study wise? Sorry to jump your thread, lol, but I had posted this on another part of allnurses and no one responded. :)

Waitlisted? Rejected? NEVER Give Up!
Thanks for the words of inspiration..i'm currently waitlisted for both the ADN and LPN program..The ADN is waitlisted into neverland and LPN I hope won't be to bad as many people applied for both ADN and LPN. So hopefully they'll get acceptance letters for both and reject the other. We'll see. I'm holding out hope and trying to stay optimistic. It's just hard when you feel your dreams are so close yet far away. :\
