  1. Your major books like fundamentals or Med Surge I would definitely not rent but there are a few that I would if I could go back. We barely used our drug calculations book and then there are other books that you could actually buy a previous edition of and be fine. I have a previous edition of a nursing care plan book and a drug dosage book that I got for $5 each on Amazon and they have not hindered me in the slightest. Then there are other books that we had to buy that I never did and I never felt like I was missing anything like a medical dictionary, a current year reference for lab and diagnostic tests and a current year charting reference guide. If I were you I would also try to talk to students who are maybe a year ahead of you and see what books they used and what they didn't.
  2. I have a two year old and we will be trying for #2 before Nursing school is over. I would rather do nursing school now because I feel like they will be too young to remember any of this and I would rather just get it over and done with to be honest! I was also worried that if I waited until my kids started school, once they started, something else would come up that would cause me to postpone school again and I didn't want that. Are there any night programs in your area that you can apply for? I go to a nights and weekend program and it has worked out great. I still get to spend days with my daughter and I study during nap times, while we're at the park and after I get home from school at night. It's a challenge for sure and it takes a lot of time management but I have all A's so far so it can definitely be done.
  3. I took the TEAS V earlier this year and the study guide questions were the same format as the questions on the actual exam. All the charts and graphs were very similar as well. The ATI study book was a HUGE help for me and I would definitely recommend studying from it as much as you can! Good Luck!
  4. Good Luck!! I'm in a night program and I start at 6:30 today so I'll be nervous all day long!!!
  5. Wow I feel lucky now! We get to wear any style, any brand as long as it's navy blue.
  6. I'll be staring a nursing program in a few weeks and I was given a pamphlet stating Federal Regulations require a 30 day delay for new students. I hear from other students it actually only takes about three weeks and that this only applies to the first semester. It really stinks because the first semester is so expensive. Do you know anyone else in your program that you could maybe borrow books from and make copies until you get your funds? I've also read that you can sometimes rent textbooks through the school library or you can always buy old editions of textbooks at a small fraction of the cost just to get you by. I once bought the previous edition of a Chemistry textbook for $4 on Amazon. With the exception of a few pictures, it was almost identical to the newer textbook which was almost $200 at the bookstore.
  7. I just got the same stethoscope and I agree with everyone else that there was no stickiness. If you can, I would definitely send it back!
  8. A good stethoscope or a good pair of shoes???
  9. sorry having a hard time deleting
  10. I had to fill out a health form that went over everything in your post and we also had to show proof of insurance but I didn't have to have a doctor sign off on it. We just had to make an appointment with the school nurse and she quickly went over the info on the health form. It took about 5 minutes.

  12. Thanks everyone!
  13. I'm starting a 5 semester ADN program as well
  14. Wow everyone! I'm glad I got a heads up on my reading assignments. I knew Nursing School was going to be a lot of reading but I can't believe the craziness starts before our classes even begin!
  15. My textbook list states that we can buy any current drug reference book. Any recommendations?
  16. I don't have orientation until the 11th of August but I was told by a student ahead of me to start reading because we will be given a lot of reading assignments at orientation and will have a test on the material the first week of school. I immediately pulled out my Fundamentals book and started reading so I could have a head start. Is this normal? Does anyone else have homework already as well???
  17. I know how you feel! My baby caught a stomach bug a few weeks ago. I of course caught it the day after her and then it just spread like wildfire at our house. It was an entire week of one person after another with non stop projectile vomiting and diarrhea in massive proportions!!! The first day I couldn't stand the smells and kept gagging every time I had to clean up vomit. I seriously started doubting that I would ever get through nursing school but I have to tell you after a week I was so over it. I just kept trying to remind myself over and over how awful this was for my family members and that they needed me. I would leave the room for a second if I had to or turned around if I absolutely couldn't help gagging so they wouldn't see me but by the end of the week it was a lot easier. I imagine it's the same in nursing school. We are going to be faced with a lot of difficult things but over time it'll come natural to us. At least I hope it will
  18. I'm starting in August and I got the Littmann Classic II SE in ocean blue
  19. I'll be starting August 23rd! So far I've bought my stethoscope, most of my books, a planner and a few other school supplies (paper, pens, pencils, post it's...) I want to start getting ready and buy more but our school has only given us a textbook list. I have orientation on the 11th so hopefully then we'll get a list of supplies we need :)
  20. You might want to check EBay as well. I got a brand new Littmann Classic II SE on there for $60 including shipping.
  21. What evening program are you applying to? I'm starting an evening program in August and classes are Monday through Thursday 6:30-9:30pm with a 12 hour clinical on Saturday. It's two years just like the day program.
