  1. can you work in the uk without your NMC?
  2. Your only complaint is running down a long hall?
  3. No, any kind of paper work takes more than a day. My license arrived in about 3 weeks. Its best to show youself in person to get this done but you dont have to. Just call them. Calling has always helped me too. YOu dont live far away do you, in Maryland??
  4. Find their phone number and call! They are quite helpful. I went down to the office. If you live close by just drop into their office. I recieved my license very quick. Good luck
  5. I'm glad you got out of ward nursing. I knew I didn't want work in medical the first day I stepped onto the ward and it had nothing to do with the patients or the workload. Everyone tells you that you need the medical experience. I surely dont think so. I beleive I can learn anything if you have the right teacher but if you work with people who are not good techers or nonsupportive you cant learn a thing. Why would anyone love working on a ward if nurses are rude, back stabbing and uncaring towards their fellow workers?Good for you for changing your life!!
  6. What about taking correspondence courses in something such as legal nursing or forensic nurisng if there is such a thing while you are working?
  7. What a lovely story and thank you for sharing!! This is what true nursing is about!! Its so nice to know that nursing is not all about working with mean nurses and crabby managers. Thanks
  8. Hi, What is a uni? Ive applied to the NMC and am waiting for all my documents to come through from Canada. My experience so far with the NMC has been fine. Thanks for all the info.
  9. Thank you Gwenith for all the information!! Do you know of online sites for credicted courses in nursing, an example for forensic nurisng? Thanks, Artis
  10. I was recently in Hospital in the UK and the day I was ready to go home, I didnt even see a nurse until she discharged me. Who would want to work in a hospital? I mean I have worked in a few countrys and the nurses have the similar attitudes. They should feel lucky they have jobs , they let the stress get to them and they take it out on their fellow coworkers and patients. If the NHS was that poor , they should abolish the whole system. If they did abolish it, the doctors would be out of jobs, trust managers would be out of jobs, so they wont abolish the system. They pick on the nurses because there are many of them and think they could do with a few less. But they will see that eventually it will not work. Who would the doctors prescribe medication too? Can you imagine how much money they would loose? The questions could go on and on.............
  11. ok. I advise you to call the hospitals. At George Washington Hospital they give you a bonus after staying for one year. Also try getting into a speciality ward as they will not be as busy as a general medical ward.
  12. Get legal advice! There must be a free legal advice in your city somewhere? Nurses are treated unfairly at times , and its about time we stood up for ourselves. Take care and I wish you well.
  13. Hi, I guess common sense would tell me not to wear a big stones to work. I dont have that anyway. I would wear my gold band but even this I would hesitate. The worst thing I have is when I see many nurses with long nails. The last place I worked, I thought about how unacceptable it was and the managers do nothing. They do nothing because they are freinds with these nurses. Bacteria like long nails and do like hiding inbetween stones so use your common sense. Just look up some articles in the nursing journals, you will find tons of information on the topic and how dangerous it is for vulnerable patients such as infants, and the immune compromised.
  14. Yes thank you it gives me some hope. I have an American License and a Canadian License so hopefullly they will consider this although I am Canadian trained.
  15. Is the course full time? thank you
  16. Hi, Would an agency pay for this 20 day course? thank you
  17. Hello there, Im a Canadian nurse living in the UK. Are there any other types of work for a nurse besides working for the NHS? Thank you in advance
  18. I had a similar problem but I was pregnant. I was reorientating on the ward I worked on. The nurse that reoreintated me was very frank about wanting my job. One night shift we worked, I would of been fine but we worked for a solid 5 or 6 hours without a break and she wouldnt let me take a break, and I made errors with IV's which were then passed onto my supervisor. She said I was not able to cope. Having a break , is something we all need and no empathy for me who was pregnant. I just cant believe how mean people are. The very next day, I talked to one of the patients and he was complaining about how a few nurses and how they were very mean to him. He continued to speak about this same nurse and this other one and said he had complained to a higher authority. I just wish I had done something about about my situation as he did.
  19. I totally agree with you. I want to get away from bedside nursing not because of the patients. I m also tired of nurses complaining about their jobs. Ive only been a nurse for 2 years and I knew from day one that it was not for me. Im one of those kind of people who is very sensitive to the needs of patients and when I work with nurses who dont care as much, it upsets me. I cant work in an environment where there is so much negativity coming from nurses and lazy nurses like you say. I have come across so many lazy nurses. My work ethic is very strong and I believe in working to my best potential. Its always the way I have been but when I see a nurse being rude to a patient , this upsets me too. How do I get out of bedside nursing? Thanks
  20. Hi, Does anyone have any tips on becoming a UK nurse? Thanks in advance
  21. We have moved to the UK and am looking into the process of becoming a UK RN. Im studing for my Ielts exam. Is there anything else I should be doing?
  22. I m a little confused about the smoking addiction and the relationship with someone being killed?
  23. Hello Im heading to England. If you have any tips about nursing in the UK please advise aboout the application process. I know I have to write the Ielts test. Thank you
  24. Just call the adminstration office and ask for Carlie , she will give you an overview and she is very friendly. You should go and talk a person or professor in charge of recruitment and say I would like to talk to someone about the program. If you are Catholic Im sure you will recieve some spiritual education too. I ve never gone to Catholic though but if I had to pick I would go there.
