moonwisper come talk to people at the open houses, you should receive much more satisfactory answers - there are current and former students and we all are very honest and open with people about our own backgrounds/experiences etc. From personal experience, I can say that for UMSON it is not just about the GPA or the NET or whatever - it is the WHOLE packaged person that is looked at in the process. They are looking for applicants that are well rounded and will be the most amazing nurses - and they are good at selecting them IMHO/E - and i say this not so much as an alumnae but as someone that has worked with these students on the floor, from comments i have been told by very experienced nurses and by people that have been cared for by UMSON students/graduates. To everyone else here still awaiting an answer - I remember three years ago being in your shoes - the time will pass as hard as it seems right now - just breathe deeply and think of the projects that you'll need to get done before starting school and start them now to help distract you until you hear! best of luck to all of you!

Best of luck in job hunting for those that received less then wanted news today and congrats to itrust on her interview request. I received an email today asking for the completed application package to be delivered to G-town to be reviewed before they made the decision upon whom to interview. I thought that the package was the next step, but maybe not?

Madani182005 - I am so sorry. I wish you the best of luck with your applications and job hunt - I know personally that it is not easy finding a new grad position in the DC metro area (not sure if you are local or not) as well as many other area of the country.

I have not yet, but it seems that one maybe contacted only if they would like the application package. You can check your status on the website to see if your application status has change - thus far, mine has not...

She is amazing in many ways as you will learn if admited and you accept. :)

I am sorry Ninotan - I am about to graduate from UMB-SON, but I can tell you that the first time I applied I too was rejected. I knew I was competitive, so I re-wrote and re-wrote my essay until it was the best that I could do, reapplied and was accepted in the first round. I cannot tell people enough when I do open houses etc how important that essay is. best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

In my area (DC metro) is is very hard for ADNs to get jobs, many of the hospitals will not even consider them so BSN is the way to go. Plus it is a shorter amount time of time overall in school and if you want to go on to an advanced degree, you first need a BSN.

As a student at UMSON I can tell you that if you under 3.0 chances are, you will not get in. Montgomery College is pretty much the same way. Not sure about FCC or Howard, but it seems that MD overall is very competitive state when it comes to nursing school acceptances. Could you re-take any of your pre-reqs to get your grades up and then reapply? How was your TEAS score?

I love my Danskos! I had nursemates and they were killing my feet halfway though the med-surg rotation. My danskos have been a dream!

Most schools in our area (DC metro) Universities and Community Colleges will not even look at a student with a pre-req GPA under 3.0 - and usually they want higher at least 3.4 and above. If you "C"s were in science classes, you'll want at least a B in them to be considered, so you'll prob want to re-take them before applying. Good luck with it all - it is a hard road to get into nursing school for many of us and there are trying times while IN school but it is worth it!

about to start the final semester in January - research, community and practicum - i am beyond excited!

after a horrible experience with Nurse Mates - they did not last a semester of 12 hour clinicals - i got my white danskos and have never looked back. i like the white (required by school) and as many RNs have told me nurses will always be allowed to wear white shoes. Yes, i wipe them down after shift and they have had a new encounters with shoe polish after some explosive events on floor - but whatever. I love my danskos!

i work full time and go to school (BSN degree) full time. Is it hard - yes - but you do what you ahve to do. We have put off having children until i am finished with school - i graduate in May - but i have many friends in school that do go full time and have small ones at home. Some work a few shifts a month as a CNA, have children and go to school full time. It is what you can handle and what is best for you and your family. Breathe deeply and know that it will be worth it in the end!

I started to take my pre-reqs when i was 32 and i'll finish this May with my BSN at the "old" age of 35 - i have classmates that are in their 40's. 22 for starting is not old at all. if you want to do - it is so worth it!

at many hospitals the babies are checked out and "admitted" to the hospital by the NAN (Newborn Admitted Nurse). S/he checks the babies out from head to toe and gives them their Hep B and Vit K if the parents agree. As far as feedings and changes that is usually done by the parents or whatever member of the staff that notices that there is a need.

you should be learning so much in med-surg - issues that will come up in OB/GYN care - look at it that way and when a position comes up apply for it and use your current work as proof to your dedication to overall health of mama's and babies.

One of the main reasons why I am going back to nursing school to be midwife - to give women back the control they desire and should have. Yes, there are emergencies that show up - but i am a firm believer that most women are not included in their care and do not understand the what's and why's and how situations arise - most of the care is happening to them and they don;t understand how they got to that point which leads to dissatisfaction for many involved as well as Mom's that are not as properly empowered as they should be.
