  1. It's all about hard work...you might have to change the way you study, among other things, but it's def. doable!!! I have a learning disability and actually have a bachelor's degree in Speech because I was so interested in the brain and why some people can learn better than others. But it's all about how you handle yourself, if you know you can't do certain skills, you might have to practice harder or study harder, longer, or more often. Listen to yourself and your body. Maybe you should seek a second-opinion or go for therapy. There are many techinques/strategies that can be learned for you to be successful!!! Good luck, and don't let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do!!! Go for it!
  2. I feel like it might be easier, since I feel like I'm wasting time applying to programs that simply won't take me, I have an average GPA (3.12) and have taken A&P and got an A- and B+, so I feel competitive, but it's just not happening. I feel like if I get my foot through the door this way, it will be easier to complete a LPN-RN program... Thanks for your help!
  3. Sadly no...Living in Maine for a while...
  4. I've been doing much research on going back to school to be a nurse...so far I've tried for 3 years to get into any program, community college, accelerated program, I am applying to a Direct Entry Master's this fall. All getting the same answer, too competitive, so many people are going back to be nurses...so my question is should I just start from the bottom and work my way up...get my LPN first and then bridge to RN and if I want BSN, MSN??? I just can't decide, I desprately want to go back to school and be a nurse, but I am starting to get discourage and I know I'm smart enough and motivated enough, hell I've come this far, which route should I go??! Thanks for the help!!
  5. Thanks it was helpful!
  6. Can someone tell me what a typical day is like as a CNA?
  7. You have to remember too, you are also human! Of course it's emotional draining, you don't like seeing people in situations where they are in pain, physical, emotional, or mentally...this doesn't mean you don't like nursing, I would just look at the parts you do enjoy and look for another speciality!
  8. I'm in the same boat!! I emailed GBCC to see what their thoughts were, but still waiting to hear back. I'll let you know what I hear. It's discouraging knowing I already have another degree from a University and cannot get into a community college...
  9. I don't know what else to do. I'm not the best test taker, but I already have a degree and taken all the necessary classes. Should I email or call to see what they were looking for or what else I can do to strengthen my application. I have no idea what I can do to get into school. I'm starting to get use to rejection.
  10. I totally understand! You're at the mercy of someone else!
  11. So there could still be hope Crookededna, fingers crossed...So I should be getting a letter in the mail soon then from what other people are saying??!!
  12. I would at least call and ask what number you on the list so you can get a picture in your mind if you have another options.
  13. Sometimes I think these people are just sitting in the dark with blind folds on picking at random
  14. Crookededna, did you receive your letter from GBCC in the mail? I'm worried now since I've taken A&P I, and II as well as Micro. But I do have degree from UNH. My NLN scores were pretty good, but now I'm not sure what's good enough.
  15. Quick question about the MGH program, I know this might be a silly question, but I've taken all of the pre-req except for chemistry...I have had chemistry in HS and have my Bachelors in Science in Speech...do I really need to take a course in Chemistry as well??? Thanks!
  16. There are many rehab hospitals here in the U.S. too. I recently had a family member break his neck at the C4/C5 level and stayed in the SCU (Special Care Unit) at the hospital and then transfered to the Shepherd's Center in Atlanta, GA. It is a great place for SCI injuries as well as brain injuries. You should check it out.
  17. I have a question regarding transfers...is there a way to start a program at GBCC and transfer into the direct entry program. It seems like most nursing programs that are accerlated start at different parts of the year. This might be a confusing question, but if someone could give me some feedback. Thanks!!!
  18. I would definitely recommend taking A&P before you apply, it will lighten the load as well as your stress level. I am also taking Micro along side too, so I can get those classes out of the way!!
  19. Abbie- I'm sorry to hear about not getting into school. I got my rejection letter in the mail too, everything is just so super competitive now. I guess it's back to the drawing board for me. But I'm sure once people get a grip on life about this "recession" then I HOPE things will level out again and applying won't be this hard!!!
  20. I know a lot of people who are going into nursing have different backgrounds, different degrees. I have a background in Speech therapy, but I know a lot of people who have business degrees, art, education, etc. I think as long as your grades are good and get all the necessary pre-req. out of the way you have a good chance.
  21. USM -University of Souther Maine, has an accelerated program and a master's accelerated as well that don't require letters.
  22. I work in a middle school as a Speech & language Assistant (while waiting to hear soon about nursing school myself) I know our school nurse gets involved with groups in our school. Around the holiday, helping families (either kid's families or even staff) collecting food/clothes/gifts who are in need. You could set up a bulletin board with tips about flu, importance of washing hands, or wearing helmets, depending on what season it is, or what topics are important to the age group of your students. You could make powerpoints educating the staff about allergies or emergencies that could arise during the school day. I hope these are helpful...?!!!
  23. That's good to know! Thanks, I'll probably end up taking that route!!! I found out sometime next month if I get into school, so fingers cross :)
  24. Thanks Freedom42! I was considering becoming a CNA, but my schedule right now doesn't allow me to take classes. But your post was very helpful!!!
  25. Things happen in life that you can't control, maybe they weren't planning on having babies at this time, but life happens and you move forward still. I'm sure they will find a way to continue going to school and raise a family in the meantime! I say power to them! But in the meantime too, I would FOY (focus on yourself).
