The book is "Teaching in Nursing, A guide for Faculty" by Billings and Halstead. They also recommend the "CNE Review Book.” I used both but only used the Teaching in Nursing to deep dive what I didn't understand in the review book. I made flash cards based off of the review book (fine tooth combed every page). In full transparency the CNE review book very shallow, using it alone isn't enough in my opinion. Studied every day for 1-2hrs. I also used others resources like ATI's CNE review which was free because Im faculty at a University. Game changer is buying the SAE (CNE practice exam). It helps you get a feel of how the questions are set up. It is a very difficult exam. As difficult as everyone says. It seems like 3 out of the 4 distractors are correct. Hardest exam I have ever taken.

Its so hard to get an online job with no experience. There are some University that will hire MSN-ED's for RN-BSN though.

Hi! I started out as adjunct faculty (clinical instructor) then moved into fulltime. That may be a option to look at. I have my MSN-ED.

To each their own. If your passion is academia then going the MSN-ED would be the way to go over NP because the curriculum focuses on curriculum development etc.. and the NLN core competencies, which will serve you well in your role as faculty. With that said the NP can get a job in academia, how ever may struggle with the above stated. I choose the MSN-ED route and I've had a zero issues with job opportunities. Currently working in a very reputable BSN program and also teaching in a RN-BSN program online. I choose not to do the NP route because I had no desire to keep up clinicals hours working bedside. In the classroom is where I want to retire.

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some encouragement. I just got a promotion to manager at work like 2 weeks ago and I'm really nervous about the demand of the job and starting school. I begin on Monday the 22nd-I had already pushed it back a week and really don't want to keep postponing starting because it may be a year before I even start if I keep doing that. Just really nervous about the demand of school and work both. I pray I can balance it all.

How can you pick your instructor and how do you know who teaches what? I really need to know this info!!

I agree! I wouldn't start until all or most of my ducks were in a row. Your admitted and The school or classes are going anywhere so don't feel pressured to start like right now?. For pecks sake they have new classes starting like every 2 weeks! They suggested for me to start 2 weeks before I wanted to but I choose a later date. My first class is September 15th. I've gotten a call every week (1hr call) to teach me how to navigate the school website, library etc....I wish you all the best on your GCU journey. @pinkpetunia Keep us posted as will I ?

Yes, @prismrn is correct. I literally started the process on Monday and was accepted today. But I will say both me and my admissions counselor were on top of my stuff and I had all of my transcripts on hand already.

I totally agree. @pinkpetunia see if you can change admission counselors bc something isn't right. Can go online and get a copy of your unofficial transcripts?

I think I got lucky. My friend gave her my contact info. We have communicated daily this week to help things run smoothly. I'm very type A and it would drive me crazy if I had a admissions counselor that wasn't on top of things. I wonder can you request a different counselor or do you have any copies of your unofficial transcripts you can email or scan yourself to send and get a unofficial plan (that way you have a better idea). I can tell you they take any college credits.

Hey! So far I'm having really good results and follow up with my counselor. I connected with her through one of my friends/former RN class mate-who graduates in 6wks!!! I started my process on Monday-I emailed her all my unofficial transcripts from the schools I got credits from-next day I received an unofficial plan (I had 84+ credits-so I just have the 12 BSN courses to tAke) yesterday I completed the application and transcript request forms. Tomorrow my counselor will call me to help me with setting up my student profile and how to navigate through the website. I completed the financial aid tonight. Start my first class on the 15th of next month. I'm ready-my friend had nothing but good things to say about the program.

So is there anyone new to GCU that's starting next month? My first class will be September 15th. Getting anxious about starting bc I just want it done!

Hi guys!! I'm gonna hop in and join the conversation as I'm in the research process and will more than likely start the end of next month. 2 of my former class mates started in July of last year and and will be finished in 6 weeks. One is continuing straight through for her Masters. So, to me that says a lot about what she thinks about the program. I think I'm gonna go for it after I make sure everything is legit.

This post was really unnecessary. This is a public forum and others will ask about your experiences-be it good, bad or indifferent. Just bc someone has a different opinion or experience than you doesn't make them negative. And truth be told-Gpc has lost and changed a lot of their staff-which will cause inconsistencies and they DO have a history of not be structured. And yes it's up to the individual to study and prepare but they should at least have a structured foundation (GPC) to know what to study. That is all.

They do it and it takes forever! Like 2 semesters.
