  1. Sounds like the peeps that work in the office are overworked but wondering how the NPs feel about the company?? How are the hours, etc?? The recruiter makes it sound like gravy but we all know how that goes. LOL. Thanks for your feedback!
  2. Did you ever call them and find out??
  3. I'm starting clinicals for Adult NP-Geron in the fall at The University of South Alabama. So excited! I was FNP and decided this semester it wasn't for me so I switched. I'm desperate to get back to school. LOL. Bored out of my mind!
  4. OK> Don't get me wrong:uhoh3: I'm not saying as an NP you don't do those things! Just not quite as much. You do more of the things that the initial poster states she loves about her job. YOu never ever get away from doing the small tasks (which BTW are sometimes the "BIG" things to our 90 YO's that haven't pooped in 4 days) in a healthcare setting. Hell, I make my docs help me with the bedpans if they're the closest things I can grab. LOL!
  5. You can actually do a AS to NP degree through my school, I believe. University of South Alabama.
  6. I'm going to say that you should make the change before you get burnt out. Either change to HH or Hospice or choose to continue your education and go on to get your NP. I'm in NP school and I honestly understand why you feel the way you do. I felt the same way! I then decided it was time to make a change. As an NP, you still have the time to spend and educate your patients and you don't have to worry about the small stuff. You know what I mean? I pray you have peace with whatever direction you go in life. Nursing is such a fulfilling profession. Don't give up on us yet!
  7. Yikes! I just wrote a paper on the DNP. I can't figure out if I'm for or against it.. LOL... I think it makes me nervous thinking we may have to get it in the long run... I was hoping to be done w school. hahaha
  8. I'd believe it. I'm in the FNP program at USA and I applied super early. I love it!!!
  9. Oh I hope it's the interview!!!;)
  10. I'm applying to Sam Merritt in Dec. I have some questions for you. Please send a private message. I would REALLY appreciate it!!!
  11. I am going to comment on this without even reading all the comments because I've never understood this. Why is it when nurses get pulled to other units or floors they always get the crap assignment and nobody helps each other? Nurses are all there together! Everyone's job would be so much easier if we helped each other out! I don't understand why this is so hard to figure out. Sorry, it's my pet peeve..._ Me stepping off my soapbox.... Everyone needs to learn about team work and realize that we all get pulled and everyone needs help. Karma people...Karma. What goes around, comes around....
  12. I'm a fairly new nurse (9 months) and I thought it was funny.....:)
  13. I love the scrub nurse thing!!! ha ha ha!!
  14. I love it!!!!
  15. I was just wondering what kind of qualifications do you have that your boss would ask you to develop this policy? I can understand if maybe they asked you for your input, but to develop it???? I think that if you are developing this it would be best to consult mds that are more qualified when it comes to the care of mechanically ventilated patients. This is not meant to be demeaning to you but to ask you to be more specific about the development of your facilities policies and procedures.
  16. I'll second that.... We make decent salaries. The majority of us are not rich by any means, but it beats what I made during nursing school-NADA....LOL... I hated it in school when nurses told me I was going to be just as broke after graduation. I may not be rich but I'm damn sure not living off the McDonald's dollar menu anymore...
  17. I agree with everyone when it comes to the craziness involved in a code. There are so many things going on during a code that having to worry about a family member watching, not only adds to the stress, but also is one more body in the way. That doesn't even include the trauma that it may cause the family member. If the patient does happen to survive, that family member will have to remember that situation for the rest of the patient's life. I cannot imagine watching someone perform CPR on my wonderful husband, him surviving and me have to think about someone pumping on his chest. I honestly believe that I would have nightmares are constantly worry that he would again have to go through the same situation. I hope that all of this makes since, but the situation definitely gets under my skin....
  18. I don't believe that it is a myth that nursing instructors try to weed out students. They do. I graduate next week and there are about 10 left in my original class of 60. It's very sad but it is necessary. There are many people who come into this profession for the wrong reasons. Granted some of the strategies the teachers use is not fair, who said life is fair. Don't get discouraged from one test. Just learn from it and move on. Remember that all material is testable and don't count on what one teacher says. CYA (cover your ***)

  20. Peg, I just wanted to commend you on your post. We need alot more nurses in this profession like you. I am graduating in July and I'm currently teching on a Med Surg floor right now. I hate listening to the nurses gripe constantly about how much they hate their jobs, etc. You become a product of your environment. If everyone would get along and find their "niche" then it would be better all around for everyone from the patients to the employees. Thank you so much for wanting to teach and for understanding that everyone has to start out at the bottom but we don't want to be treated like scum... Thank you.
  21. This is one of the first times that I have felt innervated enough to post. What school did you go to? Oh, yeah, you were born a nurse...No. You weren't. Not all nursing students ask for a separate report from everyone else and some of us don't get to come in when report is occurring at 0700 or 1900. We come on the floor at 1600. The nurses don't tape. They give an oral report. You should be appreciative of nursing students. We give people a break. When we have patients, we have two patients that we do all of the work for. Not the RN's that would have originally had them. Therefore, taking the work off of them. Our instructor is there to teach us. If nurses on the floor are kind they teach as well. We are not there to be in the way. We are there to learn so that we can help with the nursing shortage. Please remember that we all started out as nursing students. If you are burnt out, go somewhere else. Don't make everyone else around you miserable as well....
  22. That is what the organization is for. If an adult is at risk for harming his or herself, they step in. They may not force the man to do something but they offer him many options to increase his likelyhood of survival.
  23. Thanks everyone for all of the help. I have so many papers due!!! This seems like an cruel form of treatment.... Oh, the end. Looking forward to July 05
  24. The adult protective agency in your area will definitely step in!!!
  25. Nursing school is hard but I love it. I wouldn't get my CNA (no offense to anyone) b/c it's not worth the money. Nursing is very rewarding and it's a great career. If I were you, go ahead and take your science classes but you don't have to do them so slow. They're not as hard as alot of people make them out to be. Just concentrate on them and retain the info b/c you will definitely need it later...Good Luck!
