  1. Asking for my SO, looking to relocate to Dallas next year. She has 15 yrs experience as a pediatric CICU nurse, charge, and is now a nurse manager at a top ranked children’s hospital. If she were to take a staff role what type of compensation could she expect? Thanks!
  2. I'm sorry, but this sounds really depressing considering the cost of living in LA. I worked at a very well regarded children's hospital in North Texas and new RNs were GUARANTEED to make $30hr on day shift after two years of experience. This was back in 2008. I've worked beside nurses for the last 8 years and this is disgusting that area hospitals would pay such wages for such vital members of the healthcare team.
  3. +1 The NICU, PICU, and pediatric CICU I previously worked in used this system. BSI rate dropped dramatically after implementation.
  4. Haven't posted on the forum in a while, but this thread has been very interesting. (I've already been exposed to a H1N1 positive patient and just finished my course of tamiflu.) Next month I'm slated to partake in my hospitals ECMO traing program, so wish me luck.
  5. correct sorry about not responding earlier
  6. David here is the link http://gaswork.com/post/91576
  7. PA practice is COMPETENCY based, not degree based.
  8. DNP is not a PhD, it is a clinical doctorate.
  9. if the ICD/pacer isnt setting the rate wouldnt a QRS wider than .12 be called a BBB/bundle branch block? correct me if im wrong, its been a while now since ive looked at strips for a living
  10. i'll admit i haven't looked much..... i did browse a website, but can the CNA exam being challenged in Texas? i'm looking at the AccBSN from Texas Tech, and they have a requirement to be CNA certified before enrolling.
  11. Texas Tech Health Science Center also has one http://www.ttuhsc.edu/son/undergrad/secwbsn.aspx
  12. I agree, the majority of NICU nurses are hot....
  13. UTHSC Houston has one http://son.uth.tmc.edu/prospstudent/bsn/bacc2/default.aspx TCU also has one http://www.nursing.tcu.edu/accelerated.asp
  14. couldn't you just bag the kiddo REALLY REALLY FAST with super TINY breaths? :chuckle
  15. are there any DE ACNP programs out there? that may be another option.
  16. Chief Anesthetist in an ACT practice. (correct me if I'm wrong here jwk)
  17. do you mean in the form of tuition reimbursement? some hospitals will pay a set amount every semester regardless of what degree you are pursuing. some hospitals will pay a lower amount if it has nothing to do with healthcare, a higher amount if the education is related to healthcare and will help you in your current position. some hospitals pay different amounts based on the grades you receive, others dont care as long you pass the courses. some also offer scholarships on top of tuition reimbursement, but these sometimes may have a commitment tied to the monies so as you can see, they vary, so i would check each individual hospital. good luck
  18. comfort wise or physiologic effects? i would search the respiratory care journal.
  19. thx, but I already have that website. Last I checked the Mosaic at Mueller is not going to open until fall 2008. they do not specify a month. the good thing is that the complex will only be 2 blocks away from dell childrens. i could potentially save over $200 a month on gas! perhaps more due to everything being within "walkin" distance. thanks for the other advice as well. i really do like the area. i had a tour of the hospital last month and i was looking at the surrounding area. i will be goin back this friday and hunt for apartments. i guess the closer to DCMC the better. i rather pay more in rent, instead of sitting in my car during traffic. thanks again. i will check out zip 78752.
  20. I would be working 7p-7a. when you say southeast side..... is the oltorf/pleasant valley/riverside area included?
  21. im also interested. something near or in between Seton Medical Center and Dell Childrens. I plan to work NICU at both places.
  22. same here. ill be taking safety on may 24th. i am a new grad resp therapist, but once i did my PICU and NICU rotations it was then that i realized i wanted to do more. i never imagined that i would want to work with kiddos. i already bought a FON book by kozier ($15), med/surg by suddarth ($20), pharm book by kee ($45) and pedi book by hockenberry ($45) they were all used. i hope that ill be good with those books. i also bought lisa arends and studygroup101 study guides for nc1. good luck on your exam
  23. im gonna "hi-jack" this thread. what about experience in a cardiac PICU?
  24. when taking ACLS last year a RN/EMT-P gave us her version on how to remember the blocks, it really helped out my classmates who didnt have a background on EKG interpt. it went something like a husband and wife. SR = newly weds, the husband comes home every night at the same time. (wife is P, husband is QRS) 1st degree AV block = after some time, he begins to get home later, but still he shows up every night 2nd degree AV block, type 1 = more time passes by, husband comes home later and later every nite, until one night he doesnt even show up... and the cycle starts again 2nd degree AV block, type 2 = guy doesnt care much, shows up once every 2 or 3 nights on a regular schedule 3rd degree/total HB = divorce, the man and woman are doin different things anyways, she made it much funnier, but it helped out a lot... i have a diff system, but this one helps as well
