Don't move to Oregon if you're a new grad
I know Salem had a huge group of new grads hired end of July. I think there were 36 critical care openings ( Ed,neuro trauma, cvcu, icu, imcu) as well as a large group in med/surg and mother baby. I think there was also a batch back in feb so they defiantly have had opening Good Luck

Loma Linda University Medical Center New Grad 2011
I thought I would update everyone on what I learned from talking with HR today. I only resubmitted my documents last Friday and received a call today to see if I would be interested in switching my top choice. I was told they had already forwarded "hundreds" of applications to NICU, PICU and peds acute and that there were significantly fewer who applied to intermediate care and cardiac ICU. After talking to her for about 45mins about the program and the units that had more opportunity I decided cardiac ICU was the best fit for me. She did mention NICU probably had 4 openings and 2 were most likely already planned for who would get. Cardiac ICU and intermediate had 2 open postions each and I think she was going to forward around 60 applicants for the cardiac unit. Stickyrunner from my conversation it was clear no where near everyone was getting forwarded so Im pretty sure the email only went out to those who are going to get looked at by a manager. She also mentioned they began calls on Monday but had many more to make and some units had not begun she said to expect something very soon (wasnt more specific though lol). It also sounded like living close and having something tying you to peds definatley increased your odds of getting forwarded. Good Luck Everyone !

Stanford New Grad 2011 Residency
I graduated May 09 and this has been a regular thing for Stanford to have a narrow window. I got my BSN in Sept 10 and did not qualify the next time since my BSN graduation date was 1 week later then their requirement even though I was licensed.

Preceptee in Med-surg but wants a career in NICU
JjoBsn: I haven't been able to obtain a position or even a face to face interview yet but figured it would help open up more doors since most facilties locally are only hiring BSN graduates. I did continue to apply but with a little less follow up then I probably should have been doing. Education is never a bad thing and when I get the question what have you been doing? I at least I feel like Ive continued to learn. Local RN-BSN programs are no where near as difficult as my ADN and I felt like it was the only route for me so that I could still be a "new graduate".

Preceptee in Med-surg but wants a career in NICU
Unfortunatly what I have to say is probably not what you would like to hear but I am a May 09 graduate with the same situation. I wanted NICU more than anything and my school decided it was "too specialized" and placed me on an adult med/tele/onco unit. I got great references from the nurses I worked with and clinical instructors and still have not landed a job NICU or otherwise. I have found MOST NICU programs require a preceptorship in PICU or NICU. I do have volunteer experience and decided to go back for my BSN which I just took my last final today :) I would suggest if you can volunteer but apply to everything. Things have to turn around eventually.

BrightStar Home Health Care- thoughts??
I know this is an old thread but was hoping to find someone with some more current experience with Bright Star to see if things are getting any better/more organized. I was called for an interview this week and after reading this thread I am having second thoughts. I am a new grad in Northern CA and the market is extremly poor right now so I am thinking about this opportunity but don't wish to place my license or patients in jeporady. They said there is opportunity to shadow more experienced nurses and inservices to help increase my skill set and take on the more challenging patients ie trachs, wound care, TPN etc. So just want to throw it out there and see what others have experienced and which locations you were at.

Best NCLEX review guides, figured I would ask folks who have passed!
I did the Online Hurst review and passed in 75. I think if you struggle at all with taking tests you might buy the Kaplan book and look at breaking apart the questions but that was not the issue for me. Most people I know did Hurst since it was less and EVERYONE passed on the first try. Hurst is mostly content review so you have the foundation to analyze a question. No review book is anything like the NCLEX in my opinion just trust you have been through school and reviewed and take a deep breath.
