  1. They are working on changing the curriculum. I'm in NAC 1 and my NAC 1 notes are different from the NAC 1 notes from the semester before. I think that they are starting to do things differently across the board soon. Our class is a "test" class. I heard that they were reworking the way they were teaching and organizing the what they were teaching.
  2. Pharm is not that hard. I just took Basics and Pharm last semester and Pharm was a breeze. Just listen to what she says in class. That is the important stuff ::hint hint::
  3. I just finished my first semester and it was pretty ruff at the end and I know a few people that did not make it. Just keep up with the work. They are changing the format of everything now so I do not know who I would recommend because you will be getting lectured by the teacher that you will be in clinical with. It is not going to be the same as what we experienced. There were a few people who did well and most I know did average. I was surprised as how general the material on the final was. I personally thought the final was easier than all of the tests, but maybe that is because you have applied all of the information already. Evolve helps and Fundamentals Success book helps A LOT!
  4. i got in in January of this year and we didn't find out until June or July, (maybe even August) so you still have time. You will know that you got in if you get a big packet in the mail. If you just get a small envelope you probably didn't get in. That is a way you can tell before you open it. :)
  5. If you PM me I'll give you some suggestions as far as instructors go, I can't post names on here. The first week is kind of boring because you have to listen to someone from the library and the computer lab guy and all of these people about stuff that you should know, you should know how to write an email and look up something at the library by now I would think. They have been talking about changing of the curiculum, so I don't know really what they are changing, so what you are doing may not be what I'm doing now. But if they layout of the schedule as far as tests goes, it feels like you have forever to study for the first test, but once the second test comes along you are also starting taking test for pharm and you will have a test every Monday so for a four or five weekends in a row you will probably be studying. It flys by. Stay organized, don't give up in the face of adversity, you can do it. Get the Fundamental Success book they recommend it really helps!
  6. that is the kind that they have where we are doing our clinicals. you put the pill in a little pouch before you crush it,i have yet to use it as we start going to clinical this week.
  7. originally 50k, but i couldn't decide what wanted to do and that's 7 years of school, now i 'm going back for nursing. i on'y owe 45k now. went to a public university.
  8. no i'm sorry. thats all the information that i have
  9. my cousin is a school nurse in St Tammany Parish. So i know that it is possible. I know that it is not just for one school, but I don't know if it is for a district, the whole parish or what. I know that she has been a nurse for a while in the hospital prior to the school and has her BSN.
  10. Sometimes I type too fast and miss spell, but I try to correct it. We aren't perfect all the time. I hate the 'U' instead of 'you', etc.
  11. my fiance works at a power plant as an electronic technition. i'm still a student, so not technically a nurse yet. my cousin who is a nurse is married to a nurse.
  12. why must you ask questions in lecture that the instructor went over already? If you would have been paying attention the first time you would have already heard her and she wouldn't have to repeat herself.
  13. I think in any relationship there should be support for each other. I think that you need to reevaluate the relationship. I have been in a long distance relationship for 2 years (we've been dating for 5) we are now engaged. Sometimes it is hard because the only time we can see each other is on the weekends, but sometimes I have to study, but he understands and we try our best and it is not always easy. Bottom line, if he really cares for you, he will support you in everything that you do.
  14. When I graduated with my Bachelor's, not in nursing, I had a similar problem. My school would not confirm my completion of school so they allowed me to prining off of the internet, but i know that nursing is much more of a control feild and you have to cover all of your bases. Maybe they will allow you to go to the school and pick it up in a sealed envelope? I know most places will give you your transcripts that way.
  15. I don't remember them asking me if i had back problems when filling out the private insurance app., but my friend who just had to take anti anxiety meds and had had surgery in the past on her foot her premium increase from the quoted 250 to 315. The 250, must just be for someone with no problems. They ask you about everything, so even if you are healthy now, if you had something in the past you still may be a risk to them. There was a lady that coulld have got me insurance with a waiting period for my pre-ex condition, but I couldn't do it, I neve asked her how much and if I had to wait to be covered it had better been cheap.
  16. I just started nursing school and had to quit my job, I had to elect for COBRA coverage. Mine is going to cost about 500 per month, just for me, but the rep said that they will offer me other options. I don't have the option of private insurance because I have epilepsy and have already been denied. Once COBRA runs out I will apply for my state's high risk policy or get the student policy and pay for my meds out of pocket, as I do not have an adverse complications with the epilepsy.
  17. I'm going to Charity and I had all of my pre reqs except the sciences and math so because of when you have to apply I think I was taking them at the time. I found out at the last minute that you have to apply pretty much a year in advance. (I took the TEAS and applied around this time last year and I'm starting school in January) I pretty much signed up and took the TEAS in a months time so I could start this January so I wouldn't have to sit out of school a semester and because I was in those classes didn't have much time to study for the test because I was more focused on those classes.
  18. i think the book was the same one, it wasn't one that the school made, it was made by the company that makes the test. i made like a 75% i think. i also took the online test too for practice, i did worse online that than the actual day of the test.
  19. studying the study guide from the book store really only helped me for the math equations. the science portion i had was about geology, some based around experiments and they had one a&p question about the pancreas and insulin. The english is straight forward. I ran out of time on the math and just started answering anything on the last 2 or 3 question.
  20. I will also be starting in January. I am waiting to get my Hep B titer after Sept 11 to turn in my paper work. I haven't gotten my orientation information in the mail yet, but I do believe it is around October.
  21. 70. Only two attempts, with a 6 month gap.
  22. I should be 30 1/2. I've been in school all but a semester or 2 since i was 18. I'm more dedicated to this than I was my first major. I am going to be taking a break between my ADN and BSN.... I'll need it.
  23. i don't start until january but i have been saving and plan on living off of that while in school and working during the summer. i also have a 401k that i can take out of for last ditch emergency...... but that is only last choice. loans... i have enough from my first degree. I'm also going to try for a Job One grant.
  24. I have a degree already, so my gpa there was a 2.0 (i didn't have any sciences and almost 200 credit hours) and my gpa at dcc was/is 3.2. Id you go to dcc's website they have the points system they use to decide who gets in. it has changed since i applied last year.
