  1. its's gonna cost, unfortunately. I had mmr records at uno ( which I had to pay $5 for a copy of), and I had to get titers for the rest. ended up having to get vericella (which made noe sense since i've had chicken pox and shingles), meningococcus, and tetnus. At sisters of charity clinic in metairie or n.o. you have to have a physical before they'll give you shots. Over all it cost me $200-something- $300something! From teas and application to books and supplies i'll be around $2000!!!
  2. i have to agree with justashooter, it's all a matter of perspective. The teaching plans are goal oriented, but they are worked up based on the majority of the nursing students...which aren't 30 somthing males like us. I've also been like you, speaking up when I feel my intelligence insulted by an "authoritative" figure, but it's more often when I feel like I have nothing to gain or lose anyway. Try to take on the perspective that you're simply in the cross-fire of the rediculousness, and that it's not directed at you per se. You have to pass through to get where you're trying to go.
  3. brittemmons , i'm doing clinicals at ej on wednesdays. d.n.t.s., that would be awesome! i'm free today (12-6-10). give me a call and we can meet up. 504-606-4325
  4. Wow su thanks a bunch. If my email isn't posted I'll post it today. D.n.t.s., that's for the great advice. The more I get on allnurse the more support I feel, esp in the la school section. I'm sure I'll be hitting you up for advise this semester and throughout the program. Also, thanks to your husband for his service and to you for the strength and support you provide him.
  5. I've got a 1 1/2 yr old boy & another baby due in march. My wife actually stays home & watches some of her nieces & a nephew, but I cover the bills with my lawncare business. Im going to be as flexible as I can for as long as I can.
  6. Im starting in jan also. Im grateful for all of the helpful advice. I'm not yet sure how I'm going to balance supporting my family & succeeding through the next 2 years, but ready or not here I go. I'll be doing clinicals at EJ. If anyone wants to group up I'm sure we'll need all the support we can get. I live on north shore but work on south shore. Good luck everyone!
  7. thanks brittemmons. if i can save $100+ on an unnecessary txt, it definitely helps.
  8. Hey all, I'll be starting at Charity in January and already have a ton of reading to knock out. I'm looking for tips from any current or recent Charity students on which books are necessary, worth buying, or a waste of money. I'll be taking basics and pharm. Good luck to all the students out there. Thanks.
