I am also taking my pre-reqs. Initially I had a full-time schedule (5 classes), a work program at school & working outside of school to pay the bills. It only took a few days to realize I wasn't Wonder Woman. I was allowed to drop the work program & go to a part-time schedule (3 classes). I am so much happier now. I know this kind of schedule will take me a little longer to complete, but I feel that in the long run, it's what is best for me. Some of my classes will be offered during the summer. So I will take 2 or 3 of those & kepping plugging away towards my goal. You do the same.:wink2:

It is illegal to sell food stamps, unfortunately people have been doing it for years. It just makes me crazy to hear things like this. I had to practically beg for help when I had no income & then they also wanted to count my grants & scholarships for school as income & that cut my food stamp benefit down to almost nothing! They are plenty of poeple out there who actually need & deserve help & can't get it. Then there are people out there who abuse the heck out of the system & keep popping out kids just because they can! She needs to be turned in. The only real problem with that is, her kids will end up suffering because she's an idiot.

Mine goes like this: Monday & Wednesday: College 101, General Psychology, Freshman Inquiry, Into to Communications, General Chemistry I. Tuesday: No class Thursday: Chemistry Lab Friday: Same as Mon. & Wed except w/o College 101 I will work 10 hrs/week at the college & 24 hrs/week at a retail store. I only have 1 child left at home, so we'll just heve to cheer each other on during massive homework & projects. That being said, I can't wait! I start on August 26th.

I'm sure you did great on your CNA yesterday:yeah: I sure do wigh we had patient care assistant classes around here, I'd love to do that after finishing my CNA class. Keep your head up & breathe. One test done.

I'm not for sure where you live, but here in IL. CNA jobs are everywhere& I would never work for less money, we already don't get paid enough for the amount of work we do. Also, I don't know about in hospitals, but in the LTC facilities around here, there are no shift diff. Are you really having a hard time finding work? I live in a very small town. We have 3 nursing homes & everyone of them are hiring. They almost always are. Also in every hospital here & up to 50 miles from here is also hiring. Maybe a change in location would be in order. If that's at all possible for you.

You're never too old for anything if you really want to do it. I'm 38, mother of 3 & starting my pre-nursing classes next month.

I too was told that becoming a MA would "be a great career move & MA's were replacing LPN's". That was a load of c***! I did get out before completing & owing full amount. I went to Sanford Brown. They are being sued for diverting student funds & over Christmas break they changed their school code to where it says I attended a Texas culinary institute. I'm in Illinois. I'm starting prereqs for my RN next month which I'm very happy about. My experience as bad as it was, wasn't all a waste. I learned I'm actually quite good at drawing blood & I know I can handle anything that gets thrown my way. '

This may or may not help. I've always found if I believed I failed-that's exactly what happened. If I just told myself I did fine-that's exactly what happened. We bring negative things in our life when we think negatively. So just keep your chin up & think positive. I do know it's nerve racking waiting for the results of any test, but try if for no other reason than your sanity.:redpinkhe

I signed up for Biology & Chemistry. I got Chemistry & US National Government. I will also be taking Freshman Inquiry, College 101(both are writing classes). So it looks like I will be taking Zoololy & Botany in the spring. I still havn't decided which Fine Arts class I'll be taking. I'm not the artistic one in this house. Maybe I'll take Ceramics. Using the pottery wheel sounds kinda fun. Then over the summer I'll take my nutrition class online. I know it's going to be a lot of hard work, but I can't wait. I'm so excited!

I too am in Illinois-exam only-in 1996. However, I'm recertifying so I can work while going to school for my BSN. I had to pay for my background check, contact a qualified manual skills evaluator, & I'll have to re-take my written. I was told the evaluator will test me on 6 manual skills this time. Guess I should've kept up my certification. Oh well, live & learn.

Yes, there always seems to be a waiting list. I start my prereqs in August & even though I'll have these classes for 2 years, the head of the Nursing College I'm looking into told me to apply this coming March ( I'll still have a year of pre to go). I've also found 3 very well known nursing colleges, all equal distance from me. I'm applying to all 3. I'm trying to give myself options & a better chance of being accepted. Hopefully, this way I won't have to be put on a wait list. However, I'm also fully aware I may still have to wait. Good Luck & hold strong. If you really want to be a nurse-the wait won't kill ya ( Even though it may drive you crazy )

Not that I have any real advice for you, just a question. When you went in to do the drug test did they ask you if you had taken anything in past 30 days? They should have, even if it's over the counter. Also, they should've just left a message for you to call back ASAP. Leaving the full message for anyone to hear was just unprofessional As far as working at that place, I can't really tell you what to do, but I would be a little worried about being labeled before I even started. Ultimately, it has to be your decision. I do wish you the best of luck & am so sorry someone did follow protocol for proper drug testing.

I would call and ask the facility. At the one I worked at, we had to wear our scrubs. Part of the day was spent watching movies, paperwork, etc. & part of the day was actually working. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

No one said everyone has to wear "mom jeans". I am a mom of 3. I do wear mid-rise. I just spend time trying them on & making sure stuff's not out and about. My daughter is in school for Fashion Design, she'd disown me if I wore "mom jeans". Just kiddin' I just mean that we don't have to be covered head to toe to be professional, just take some time to look in the mirror before going out. And don't forget to bend over in front of your mirror. Check out your rear-view for crying out loud!

I don't think lesser known is always bad. Just make sure they have their proper accredidations & the courses that are necessary for LVN. Do your homework. See if other have gone & had good results with the lesser known. Tour the school & see how current students feel. See if there are any legal problems online with the lesser known. Of course, if money isn't an issue; go for the better known. Just please do your research, I got messed up when I chose the cheaper & quicker route for Medical Assistant. It did serve me 1 major blessing. During my time there, I learned I could handle anything thrown my way & gained the confidence to go after my dream of nursing. Good luck with whatever you choose.

They actually do sell low-rise scrubs! I've seen them at Wal-Mart. I almost accidentally bought a pair. I didn't really read the whole tag, went in to try them on & couldn't believe what I was seeing. Needless to say, I did not buy them. I'm 38, not 15 trying to impress the boys. If you bend over, you show the whole world what you've got.

When I was in MA school, we had a standing announcment on test/casual days: "Cover all B's-boobs, bellies, & butts". You would think that's a given with adults-but no. You have to remind these people. :icon_roll
