It depends on a lot. Some states have different levels of CNAs, or in hospitals they might be trained as a Patient Care Tech, or they have special training on doing those particular things. It's not an uncommon thing.
  2. help with knowledge of long acting meds for chronic pain

There are a lot of new things coming out that I'm seeing a ton of in my work, like Opana which is a long acting Oxymorphone, and Kadian/MS Contin which are long acting Morphines, and I recently have dealt with Nucynta which is a long acting that is s...

  5. Life as a Navy nurse (pros and cons)

as Far as dual military goes, they make sure that one parent will always be home at all times, which may mean more time apart. But I don't think the navy nurses deploy enough for that to be much of an issue. My experience is with the usmc but both of...
  6. Did you graduate from a program in the area? Parkersburg seems to have a big big preference for WVUP graduates.
  7. WVU RN-BSN program, how is it?

I know a girl who did this program (and asked lots of questions because I intend to follow the same path!) and she said it was all online, she finished it in 2 years, and studied less for it than she did for her ADN. I believe it to be fully online, ...
  8. I am currently in an PN program at a school in North Carolina... we came here for the military and after graduation we have no intent of staying in North Carolina. Right now it's looking like we'll be moving back to WV where we are from, or Ohio. Nei...
  9. Hey, thank you for that! I contacted them again and you are right, it doesn't have to be the NLNAC as long as it is approved by the state board. Thank you so much :)
  10. I just found out that WV only licenses graduates of accredited programs, and my school doesn't have its NLNAC accreditation. Should I apply in NC and transfer it? I don't know what to do now.
  11. So I still have my license in WV (due to my husband being military) and an address in WV, would that keep me from that having that waiting period?
  12. New graduate LPNs: any luck finding jobs.

Yeah, I think it's a lot to do with the economy and everyone is having a hard time finding jobs. There are a lot of opportunities for LPNs in home health and LTC, and you could do that for a year and have enough experience to get a job at a hospital....
  13. CNA 2 with Phlebotomy tech or Pharmacy tech?

I know a lot of places are using CNA IIs instead of LPNs whenever possible to cut down on costs, since they can do a lot of the same things. and a lot of people in the Jville area get their CNAs to get points to get into a nursing program!
  14. Excelsior to BSN?

If I get my AAS from Excelsior, would I be able to start an RN to BSN from a traditional school? I always intended to start on my BSN online through UNC after getting my AAS, is this possible if I get the degree from Excelsior?
  15. Excelsior to BSN?

I already have Micro (as long as its a 3 credit hour and not a 4 credit hour one) and A&P (two different versions of it, one was 5 credit hours and the other was 4) from an NC Community College so I'm square on that! What are the Gen.Ed classes n...

My LPN classes start Aug 17th! I am freakin EXCITED! I am taking A&P I this summer semester to start for my LPN-RN bridge, and I think it was a good idea to get me in the groove for LPN school!
  17. Ugh, I am right there with you. I am starting my 11th!!! semester in college in the fall and by the end of it, I will only have a diploma in anything worth talking about. I have an associate's degree in general studies, but where is that really gonna...
  18. IS THIS IT?

OMG, zanatu, your post excited me, I never even realized that an LPN would have a chance at all of getting an OR job, that would be totally ideal for me. Thanks for opening my eyes to an opportunity I didn't even realize was there!
  19. Did you get a master's degree?

I intend to pursue a master's degree, I want to be a CRNA and it's the minimum education for it.
  20. I am totally getting ahead of myself but I thought I'd see what you guys know anyway. I'm getting ready to start my LPN program next month, and will graduate in May of 2010. We intend to relocate to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/etc area, and I was ...

I did a sheep's brain, a sheep's eyeball, a rat for the introduction to the body systems, and a cat for studying the muscles. I would love to be able to use cadavers but I assume that's mostly for places that have med schools as well, but I only go t...
